God bless football, Billy Gill. God bless football, Mikey A. God bless football, Mike Golick Jr.
God bless football, Stu Gatz.
How we doing, guys? We're doing good, Mike Golick. Thank you, Mike Golick Jr. It's your dad's birthday, and so we gave your dad the gift of a week off from us. It's a great gift.
Best thing he's going to get all year.
It's better than I got him, which was nothing. So you guys did me a favor in this. Thank you.
okay so it's funny uh billy me and mikey a were having this conversation right before you joined the zoom right before gojo joined the zoom as well at what age do you stop buying your parents birthday gifts
I still buy my parents birthday gifts. Are you saying at what age of like the person, the buyer or what age, the person of the receiver?
I asked Mikey, what do you think? Gojo got Mike Golic for his birthday. And Mikey said, I stopped getting my dad birthday gifts a long time ago.
But is it because is it because of your dad's age, Mikey, or is it because of your age?
I think it's because of his age, because there's nothing I'm going to get him that he won't just get for himself.
72.
74.
74. Okay.
Sorry, I forgot how I forgot if my dad was 62 or 63 this morning when we were doing the show at the beginning. And so I just laid it out so he would say it. And then I would remember it on the back end. So happy 62nd birthday, dad.
If you if you purchase your dad a gift, what do you get mad at you? Like, hey, what are you doing? I don't need this. I don't want this.
No. So here's the thing with me and my dad and gift giving and the way my family's operated in general is we don't like being bound by, oh, it's birthday gift time or, oh, it's Christmas gift time. Like, again, we're fortunate. We've got plenty of stuff, so we don't need anything.
It's more if I see something that I know my dad's going to want, I'll get it for him no matter what time of year it is. And like, I have something I'm going to get my dad because he's easy to shop for. Because to your guy's point, my dad will never go buy something himself. My dad is wearing clothes that either me and my brother or my mom have gotten him almost 24 hours a day.
Because my dad, he'll never ask for anything, Stu Gotts. But what he'll do, like if he saw this jacket and he liked it, he would never say, oh, I like this jacket. He would walk up, he'd take his two fingers, and he'd pinch a little bit of the fabric, and he'd go... Oh, this is nice.
And then he'd walk away without saying anything else and just expect it to show up eventually on his doorstep at some point. So I've got a couple of clothing items that because I know I have liked them and I know he would do that and have that reaction. If you saw them, I'm going to get him eventually. They're just out of stock right now.
So this is nice is really buy me this jacket.
100%. 100%. I can't have helped but notice earlier in the week, it seems like one of your siblings has once again given your father his favorite gift of all, another grandchild. Jesus.
Yes. Yeah, my brother and his wife, Jenny, had their second child, their daughter, Jordan, to join Jackson. A lot of J names in that family going to be a real confusing time around the house when it's time to yell at people. But yes, Billy, he definitely my brother. Shout out to him for continuing to run interference on my life. I don't get questions about getting married anymore.
I don't get questions about kids anymore because my brother and sister just keep having them. And my parents are so preoccupied.
They don't trust me. The parents are talking about it. I'm like,
well first first of all congratulations to your father congratulations to you to jake welcome to the world jordan uh yeah i was gonna ask though and it seems as though the answer is no is now is the the conversation the pressure on you like when are you going to deliver us a grandchild because they're they're fine their hands are full they have a new one right
Oh, Billy, no. It's so much worse than that. I'll never forget this moment. This is probably a couple years ago now. My brother already had his son. My sister might have been pregnant at that point, so maybe this was only a year or two ago. And I was sitting around talking with my mom at one point, and she used to give me grief about the kid stuff in the normal, playful way that parents do.
And then at one point, my mom, I made some joke about it, and she goes... And it was like this far away look in her eyes where she's like, me and your father really just want you to find someone. And it was so like, oh, they just want you to have company. So you're not lonely in a way that was like, oh, God. All right. I might actually need to do this so they don't feel like they failed.
Not for me for them.
Yes. Is that worse? Is that like, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed? Like, the jokes I could take, but I feel like that line was like, ow.
Well, the jokes assume that eventually it's going to happen and it's going to be okay so we can joke. That was like, oh, they're really considering the possibility that I might just wind up alone.
Can I ask you a question to pivot slightly, but it's also along the lines of sadness here. I also can't help but notice you decorated your set for the holidays with one sad stocking behind your head.
Yes. Is that the extent of your holiday decorating? And a Gojo and Golik sign. Yeah. And the Stugatz book. And the Stugatz personal record book. Okay.
There you guys do that. Stugatzbook.com. Check that one out here. Thank you. Look at you promoting books for me.
Yeah, I wrote one part of a book. God bless Stanzik and the work that he did putting all this together, and everyone else who helped piece this together. So this is my only Billie holiday decoration here. I've got a couple of tchotchkes I bought at Target.
I have on my front door, so into my apartment, and this was true in my house in Connecticut, I have one door in my house where I have a plush Santa face that that hangs off the door handle, but I keep that up year-round. I never take it down. Why? Because he's always watching. He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake.
He knows when you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake. Santa's always watching. I have the small Christmas tree from the Charlie Brown Christmas special in physical form up year-round, and then a normal-sized tree with a couple of wreaths.
Wait a minute. Hold on a second. The Christmas tree is up year-round also.
The small one. So it's, it's about yay high. And it's the, you know, it's the Charlie Brown one, the one before they decorate it and up there where it's real thin and sparse. So you can't always tell it's Christmasy, but it is.
I, I'm starting to, and I mean this to be helpful. And I know that you're not going to take this this way, I'm starting to kind of connect these two stories. You know what I mean? Like the inability to find someone Santa Claus is always watching on your door year round. We have a Christmas tree year round.
Like, I feel like if we make slight minor changes, maybe things will change in a larger way, you know?
You mean to tell me, Billy, that if you were a young lady and you come back and we've just had a great date and maybe we're sitting on the couch watching TV and all of a sudden things start to escalate and there's a little bit of kissing, that if you looked over and all of a sudden locked eyes with a plush Santa Claus on the door handle, that wouldn't do it for you?
Maybe the sad Charlie Brown tree also is like, hmm, okay, what's happening here?
There's also an elf riding a pug underneath the small Christmas tree there as like a lawn ornament that I just put inside.
Okay. Oh, that's just adorable.
Is your holiday decoration the Chris Simms jersey? Well, you know what? Now that you mention it, should I spruce up? I haven't even considered sprucing up the background for the holidays. Like I did my decorating like in the front of the house. I have very controversial Gojo, and I'm wondering, and we'll get to Bill Belichick eventually, maybe.
I'm wondering your thoughts on this because this is kind of like a controversial opinion that some people have on the exterior decorating. How do you feel about inflatables? Some people don't like inflatables. They think inflatables are a cheat code.
So I think inflatables are great for other people will never be my thing, like never has been my thing, never will be. But I appreciate a good inflatable, especially when it because, you know, the cookie cutter ones, you get some people that will just do like the reindeer or Santa's sleigh or something like that. But when people go above and beyond or have a lot of them, I do appreciate that.
All right. Are you guys talking about an inflatable tree? No, we're not. No, like the inflatable lawn stuff.
Yeah, decorations for the lawn.
I was going to tell people, go buy a tree and throw it on the roof of your car and drive it home.
Stugatz, would you be a real tree guy if you were in the game?
I'd send someone out to get me a tree. That's what I would tell you.
What about you guys? Are you guys real tree or fake tree people?
I am a fake tree person who married into a real tree family and lost all ability to choose for myself. Wow.
So you get you get to clean up the pine needles.
Not only do I get to clean up the pine needles, I get to get my ass up on Black Friday, drive to the tree farm and take all those awkward pictures and then get down and cut the tree down and haul it to the car and wrap it up and all that. I get I get to do that. knowing full well that I would much rather have the artificial tree.
Yeah.
Welcome to married life. You should do it, Golic.
I'm a real I'm a real tree guy, but we don't have tree farms. I went to Home Depot and I got it out of a tent in a parking lot. It's not a boy. That's how we do it down here. What I did is I went and I cut the little wrapping With like a little pocket knife. I cut it. I banged it on the floor a couple times so it could stretch out. I could see what it looks like.
I'm like, give it a little spin, a twirl. Good enough. This one's the one we're taking home this year. But like on the outside, Gojo, and this is why I ask. So, and I'll blame my daughters. That's fine. I have no shame. I'll blame infants. It doesn't matter. They won't know. We are an inflatable family, but a thematic inflatable family. Yeah. So, I will have...
outside uh and i wonder if i should give all this information because then if you pass by these are very specific and you'll know where i live oh yeah i have i have a tropical holiday theme going on because it doesn't get very cold down here so i have a hula dancing santa a santa outside that actually like hula dances so i have a dancing santa i have a flamingo in an inner tube with a santa hat on and sunglasses and then this year
I did my inflatable shopping in July because I said, I'm not daddy's not paying full price for this. I'm going to get this when this is on sale and when it's still available. So I started looking. Lo and behold, I found one. I've now added to the collection and I didn't realize the size until I inflated it. And that was that was that was part of my problem.
But also a pleasant surprise for me and my daughters. My wife, not so much. Didn't love the surprise as much as I did. Because I inflated it. I inflated it inside the house just to show my daughters before I did it outside. And I hit the ceiling, hit the ceiling. Now I have low ceilings in the room where I did it, but I got an eight foot tall.
An eight foot tall snowman with sunglasses holding a surfboard and then a giant inflatable palm tree behind said snowman. Oh, yeah.
We're super tropical. Super tropical outside. Gojo, don't you feel like when you go buy Christmas decorations in July, the person's judging you at the counter? No, I did.
I did on Amazon. This is an Amazon. Oh, you hid your shame. Yeah, there is. There is, though, down here. And I'm assuming there are these. These exist everywhere. There's a year round Christmas store here.
It's a bit of a town in America. Yeah. Every town in America has them.
Year-round Christmas store. I didn't go to it because it's kind of far. And also, I don't really believe that the stuff is as on sale as they say. I worked in retail, okay? Guys, let me tell you something about Black Friday sales and about retail. Oftentimes, and now you'll see it on TikTok and the internet, same exact price.
They'll just put a sticker with like new, like, oh my gosh, look, Christmas balls, new low price. You just move it to the side and like, oh, this is more expensive than it was last week.
Billy, thank you so much for illuminating what I've assumed for years because I'm the biggest mark known to mankind. The gas stations, when you go inside and you go over to the drink section and it's Powerade and it says, oh, you can get these two for six bucks or whatever. I never know and checked what they were before that. I have no idea if I'm getting a deal. I just see the little sign.
I'm like, well, now I have to buy two Powerades for this road trip. I'm just being economical and I have no idea if I'm saving money.
Here's another game that grocery stores in particular will pay. And this is where I noticed it. They're kindred spirits, Mikey. Have you noticed this?
We've known Mike Golick Jr. for a while. I've known Billy forever. You've known Billy for a couple of years now. These two are kindred spirits. We're the same age, Mikey. Mikey, they have more in common than me and Gojo have in common, than you and Gojo have in common, than Gojo has in common with anybody.
Well, you're closer to Gojo's dad's age than you are to his age. I know. I just don't want to accept it, Billy. Yeah. OK, so, Gojo, this is where I realized that that bogos are a scam often, which was I buy cookie dough and sometimes I like to just eat the cookie dough raw. You know what I mean? But not it's not good for you, I guess, because of the eggs in it or something.
So now they, quote unquote, make edible cookie dough that it's fine to eat before you cook.
so i will go and i'll buy the edible cookie dough to just go and i get the ones that are like the pre-cut like 20 you this makes 24 cookies and i'm like nope that makes 24 bite-sized snacks for me because i'm not going to make those into cookies so i'll go and i'll buy the edible cookie dough and uh and then i notice on the bogo it's like oh you know buy one get one free and the price for the buy one get one free is like 5.49 or something like that and it's like well hold on a second
One of them last week was $369. So I'm buying one and getting one free. But the one that I'm paying for, you've increased the price from one week to the next about 180%. That's how they're getting you on these things. You think you're saving money and like you are if you wanted to, but also you're paying like a lot more for the one than you would normally. I'm on to the groceries, Gojo.
The grocery store is right. Listen, I have a fridge with 10 yogurt packets in it right now for that same reason. They get you on this stuff.
Yeah. I'm going to start an Excel doc, and I'll spare everyone, but I'll share with you on what I found in terms of pricing, Gojo. Don't worry.
We're going to get through this together.
i love gojo on the power a two for six dollars not knowing if one is like 220 dude no like like like you should be getting two for 450 you know well okay that's a whole nother thing like it used to be like you could get two for like 250 and now it's like two for seven dollars and it's like what is happening here and and don't get me started on shrinkflation where a 24 ounce bottle turned into a 20 ounce bottle i'm on to you guys i know what's going on all
The thing that Powerade still has at its disposal, and the only one that's really coming for the crown on this is body armor, is especially if you're going on a long drive, very pissable bottle. Like some of these other ones here, not as pissable of a top of the bottle here.
Body armor right now, number one in the pee power rankings of bottles that you can pee in after you've used them on a long road trip.
I'm not sure that's how they market them, but they could. They should. They should. I don't even know if it's they should, but they could.
I feel like if you put a wide mouth on a beverage that is sold at a gas station, you kind of know what you're doing. Everyone knows. Got it.
I love you looking at the width.
Just to check to make sure it's big enough for you. To be clear, it doesn't have to be that big, but, you know, it's comfortable.
You don't want to worry about the splatter of the spray anywhere while you're doing this at 55 miles an hour, which is definitely safe. All that good stuff.
God bless football is presented by Smirnoff. We do game days. Please drink responsibly. The Smirnoff Company, New York, New York. Gojo, Bill Belichick to North Carolina. What do you think, huh?
I still can't believe this is real. I saw the official graphic from North Carolina, but plucking Bill Belichick off the Pat McAfee show, Michael Lombardi, who's done stuff at DraftKings and the GM Shuffle and at V-Sync going to be his GM. It feels surreal in a way, and I'm still trying to figure out Stugatz. what the motivation is for Bill Belichick behind this.
In an offseason where we thought he'd take another stab at some of these NFL jobs, where we thought the Don Shula record was the sole thing preoccupying him, I know Seth Wickersham's got a piece out and it kind of says, hey, that's something, but it's not the only thing, and maybe he felt slighted by the process, but that's the one thing I can't figure out is, is Bill Belichick doing this with eyes and going back to the NFL eventually, or is he just going to kick up
his feet and try something completely new at this point in his career and see how it fits.
It's super interesting because if you're going to go back to the NFL, Mike, I have to think that no NFL teams were interested in Bill Belichick. He made it clear that he was interested in Carolina.
What was that?
There's only three jobs open right now. More are going to open up more than likely. No, I know, but I'm thinking Belichick put some... The news was out there that he was interested in Carolina. Carolina was interested in him. It sat there for a few days. And I think Bill was probably going through the process, who's going to call me?
Who is going to call me and make some sort of assurances that, hey, I know we have a coach now, but at the end of the year, you're going to be our guy or we're interested, whatever. I don't think he got anything in the way of that. And so I think he was forced to go to college. And if you're asking me his motivation, I think his motivation is to make sure his family is secure after he's done.
And his name doesn't mean as much as it does right now. Is that fair?
I guess it could be, especially with the Steve Belichick stuff baked into that, where whether or not you believe the coach in waiting rumors, as it seems like he's going to go there and be the defensive coordinator. And I mean, listen, five years and $50 million is nothing to shake a stick at. Now Bill Belichick's got more money than God, so I don't think that's really... a motivator and all this.
But the other part of this, too, is just these guys are sickos. Like, you guys know this. We've all been around and worked with guys that take the year off coaching and come do this. Not all of them are Nick Saban where, hey, you do it after you totally exhausted your competitive desires in a field that you've dominated here. Bill Belichick got fired. How much of this is...
that he asked for the moon and stars from UNC thinking, there's no way they're going to give me everything I want. I'll give them a 400-page document that says everything I want, how I want the university to run, including making my son the coach in waiting, who probably doesn't belong getting that kind of job. But they did it. They're like, yes, yes, we'll do all of that.
And he's just like, oh, okay, well, if you're going to do everything, it reminds me of when Phil Jackson went to the Knicks because they just kept badgering him with money.
That could certainly be a part of all this. And I do think what you mentioned there, the level of control he can have in college where, you know, we said before this ever really became real, dad and I were talking about it in the show and we'd made the obvious points.
Now it feels like where it's, Hey, the college level has certainly changed structurally, but it's still a place where even with the GMs that are coming into college football and full scouting departments, the head coach in this sport has always wielded a level of power where
very similar to what bill enjoyed at the nfl level that's atypical for that level of football and it certainly doesn't seem like anyone's going to ever give him that much control over an nfl organization again right so you're right if he could go down here ask for that and then some and they eventually gave it to him and you still have this desire to maybe coach and stick it to everybody to say all right you don't want me up there that's fine i'll take north carolina this place that
And so many people have been talking about it as a dormant power at a basketball school that's got the geographic location working for it, the young alumni base, the resources and stuff, and say, I'll take this place and I'll do with it what no one's been able to do in the 21st century with that school, despite everyone else. I wouldn't rule that out for a guy that competitive.
Do we have to accept because, I mean, clearly there were no other offers that Bill Belichick may have coached his last game in the NFL? I think we're probably there, right? Because he's only getting older, Mike. He's going to spend a couple of years at Carolina. If they're not going to hire him now, they're not going to hire him then.
I do feel the age in that thing because my initial gut reaction was no, we probably haven't because this still seems like a guy that that record does mean enough to get talked about the way it does and only being 14 shy of tying 15 shy of beating. But you're right. I mean, he's walking into college football already is the oldest coach there.
was in the NFL, all of his peers have been forced out or retired. Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, Mack Brown at North Carolina. And so, yeah, I just don't see how if he really is here legitimately and not just going to dine and dash after one year, which if he's got the tie in with his son, I don't know how that would work. All these different things that maybe say he'd be here for at least a few years.
Then, yeah, I do think it's increasingly hard to imagine an NFL team hiring Bill Belichick in his mid 70s to come there and try and lead your franchise.
Do you think he has an out clause, like he can leave whatever the hell he wants? Like if someone offers him an NFL job in a month, he can get out of there?
I'm sure he could get it figured out just fine.
Based on what Mike probably asked for all that stuff and got it. It's in the Bible. Yeah. I mean, listen, if it's just a month, Gojo, we can agree. No one has ever taught this much Carolina football in their entire life, right? Like, they're getting banged for their buck right now.
That's the funniest part about this, though, is because the attention economy is loving this right now, everyone's going to be like, oh, this is like Dion in Colorado. No, it is not. It is certainly a spectacle in the same way, but you're not going to get Bill Belichick hosting his own talk show on Tuesdays and inside the North Carolina Tar Heels looking the way they had on Amazon Prime.
And just in general, Deion is a showman by nature. That is who he is at his core. Bill Belichick, I mean... Maybe we get the version of Bill that lets his hair down now. He's got the young girlfriend. He's away from the NFL and all these parts tied to his legacy. So maybe he does just relax a little bit.
But more than likely, he's going to be the same guy he's always been, which is not going to grab people by the horns the same way Dion did or piss people off, quite frankly, as much as Dion did on the front end of his time there.
Billy, can you imagine a 17 year old kid wanting to play for Belichick? Like, is that is that something I guess if he's the guy that can get you to the NFL, right? He's the guy that can get you to the NFL. Gojo kids aren't going to care as long as he's the guy that can get me to the professional level to my dreams.
It does seem weird, right? And when is the last Patriots? I mean, it's pre-COVID, right? Their last Super Bowl. When was their last year that they won the Super Bowl? Because now a 17-year-old might have been, what, 11, 12? That's what I'm wondering. When Bill Belichick was dominating and was Bill Belichick and even then was like on the back end of it, right? Right.
they'll know who Bill Belichick is, obviously, right? But I don't know that Bill, if he has the cachet, right? It was 2019, Billy, for what it's worth. I cannot imagine Bill Belichick strolling into someone's house to recruit them. That is another part of it, right? You assume he's going to put in all the work to get everything done, right? He's bringing on all these people.
He's going to have his army of consultants and assistant coaches and all that. But I don't see Bill Belichick just driving around making house visits for some of these recruits and sitting on your couch and be like, we'd love to have your son come play for us. Like it just, I don't see it. I don't, I don't know why.
Also though, like we used to think that about Nick Saban then would see videos of him doing the Cupid, the Cupid shuffle. Right. And like, He seems like he liked to have a good time, and he knew how to get the recruits. So we'll see. Maybe this is a new Bill. We also never thought we were going to see Bill leaving someone's house on a ring camera, right? That's true. Bill gets down.
I think there's a lot we don't know about Belichick. I'm kind of with you.
When you go on a recruiting trip, bring your girlfriend and your Super Bowl rings. There you go. That's it. Fucking like that. All eight of them.
I did wonder, twofold to Billy's point, how much Bill's son and his experience, because Bill was up at Washington a bunch. He was around there. They talked about it. Jed Fish, I think, has Belichick ties somewhere in his past, the head coach now at Washington. But then also what Nick Saban's told him, like Bill and Nick worked together.
They obviously have kind of been in lockstep their whole careers. And Nick Saban left for all the reasons that we're curious why Bill Belichick would go to college for.
I can't believe there wasn't another offer for Bill Belichick, or maybe there was, and Belichick, he just wanted to go to North Carolina.
I mean... I think the one big difference... It's strange. I think the one big difference, though, Kojo, is that, like, so Bill's NFL... Coaching experience is closer to what college is now than Nick Saban's college coaching experiences to what coaching is now. Right.
So like he's more I would almost say like more prepared and maybe more equipped for this new NIL environment than old school college coaches were.
Yeah, I would agree in general. And I think your point, the relative standard of this, because that's the thing I've talked about with like Kenny Dillingham and Dan Lanning and a bunch of these young coaches who got their first head coaching jobs during all this change. Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame, they don't know a world as head coaches anymore.
without the current things that they're balancing in this job as the standard. If you are Nick Saban and the rest of these coaches that have been around for decades in the sport and have watched it more from this thing you knew how to do very well to something that feels totally foreign, yeah, I could understand that.
And so Bill coming in without any priors and a skill set that is closer is a reason I thought, hey, this is less far-fetched than it originally looked on the surface.
It's also a really strange situation because if you read into kind of how it all played out, It doesn't seem like they ever pursued him. He just kind of was like, you know what? I'd like to coach here. And this is how I was practice one day and just decided he wanted to stay. I mean, this is how I'd like it to go. And I'm going to give you this manifesto.
If you believe this is how it went down, I'm going to give you this manifesto. And if you agree to all these terms, I'm going to come here. And then some people at the at the university were like, what? And then like some boosters are like, hell, yeah. And then there seems to have been some disarray even within the university as to whether or not he was going to coach there.
Who's making this decision? So like Bill seems to be coming in and it's not like he has to conform to some standard because he just created his own and he just found the people that were going to pay the bills and make it happen. And they made it happen. So like, how are you even going to control this man at this point?
That is the one part that worries me, not not being able to control him because, you know, you you ceded control to Bill Belichick for all the things that we mentioned. But it's the fact that like in the NFL, when you look at teams that are bad for a long time and do they have their house in order organizationally? We're watching that play out for the Bears in real time right now.
And when you hear about the supposed rift or like infighting or however you want to label it between Bubba Cunningham, the athletic director at North Carolina and their board of trustees. not being on the same page on how they wanted to handle the dismount of Mack Brown and not being on the same page for who they were going after for this next candidate.
That's what worries me in this day and age where you've got so many cooks in the kitchen between the board of trustees and the athletic director and the collectives all trying to go and govern these things that if you have fracture and dissent among there, I think those are the programs that are going to struggle the most in a world now that requires more organization and unity on that level than ever before.
To Billy's point, the way this came about was kind of out of nowhere. Like, Bill Belichick's not going to college. Hey, Bill Belichick might go to college. Oh, my God, Bill Belichick's going to college. If this was more well-known, if Bill Belichick was like, I want to go coach in college, how many other of these college teams do you think would have been like, you know what?
Maybe we should do this. Maybe we should go get Bill Belichick. Let's get rid of our guy and do that.
Like Florida State? Yeah. Yeah. Well, and that one, like this, this all makes me wonder like, all right, now if Bill Belichick is looking at college, cause remember we went through all this last summer when Jeff Halfley and a couple of those guys left for NFL jobs and people were like, Oh man,
Look, you're driving out these great leaders from the college game by giving players rights and money, and it's so scary, and we're going to lose all these great men. And now Bill Belichick's going the opposite direction. It does make me wonder, like, hey, for Ohio State and all the conversation they've had there about Ryan Day, Mike Vrabel is pie in the sky for them.
Like, you talk to Ohio State fans, and they want Mike Vrabel bad around there if it's going to be somebody. And you do wonder now if a guy might look at it and say, all right, This is a little more accessible to me coming from the NFL than it's ever been because of these changes in the sport. I don't know. Vrabel's still younger.
He's probably going to have plenty of suitors, so I don't know if this would apply to him the same way, but your alma mater can do strange things to you.
I like Pete Carroll going back to USC. How about that? Yes.
As a Notre Dame fan, I hate it.
Go, Joe. We love you. We have to let you go. Go, Joe, and go look 8 to 10 on the DraftKings Network wherever you get your podcasts. We have a Notre Dame quarterback who's on hold right now, and it's Joe Theismann, just so you know. Enjoy that. You got to hear from my friends over at Miller Lite. What a great time of year.

Joe, we'll get to what you're doing with Army and Navy. That game is this weekend. It's our Super Bowl here on God Bless Football. It's our national championship. It's a great game. It's a great tradition. But I am wondering, Joe, you hear the news Bill Belichick is going to the University of North Carolina. And your thoughts are what?
I'm not surprised. You know, everybody, everybody obviously thought that he would be, you know, back in professional football. But to me, you know, I think there was a time back. I remember Coach Shula. There was a lot of talk about him really wanting the Notre Dame job. I think there are certain jobs in football that coaches really, really look forward to.
Certainly, it's going to be a heck of a lot less stress than there is in the professional part. I would say that the season is shorter, but now when you start to look at the addition of the playoff games, I mean, we've got colleges playing almost 15 weeks of football, so that really isn't going to change that much. But I think it's a new, exciting challenge for them.
I think that's really what we're looking at, is it's a different, new, exciting challenge.
Joe, have you been a fan of the new college football playoff format? Have you enjoyed this season? Are there too many teams? For me, there's too many teams, so I'd be interested in your thoughts.
Well, I enjoyed the season. I just didn't necessarily like the way they made the selections. And the reason I say that is I know it's difficult. I know this is the first year. I understand that totally. But from my perspective, if you're an 11-1 football team – You have conference champions getting automatic buys.
Well, what happens if you're not in a conference and you're a really good football team? Are you being, you know, questions? Are you being penalized because you're not in a conference and you have a better record than those that are? And that's, you know, I think that's some of the tweaks they're going to have to do.
But as far as foundationally goes, getting started with a college playoff, this is a great place to start.
Joe, one of those 11-1 teams that you mentioned may be participating in our national championship this weekend, Army. And you may not like this, Joe, because you do a lot for the armed services you have for the years. It's great what you're doing this weekend.
But one of the disgraceful things that you did was in your college career, you beat up the armed services four games to none, three times in a row. How dare you, Theismann? Yeah, it's incredibly disrespectful. And we get on Mike Golick Sr. about this all the time because an argument can be made that your Notre Dame team is to blame for why Army is not in this playoff right now.
And we say, because we do our own rankings around here, Joe, we say that wins against the armed services should count against your eligibility for the playoffs. Yeah.
So if you beat one of the academies, it becomes a minus.
Yes, absolutely correct. Golik likes to couch it under, hey, we help them up when we tackle them. But I mean, they don't want that. I mean, let them win.
Exactly right. They teach us how to keep on fighting no matter what the score is. They do. They teach us to. And this was one of the things when playing the academies and we were bigger at the time when I was at Notre Dame. I think Mike, you know, probably felt the same way as we were bigger. And as the game went on, we managed to wear him down a little bit.
But man, I'll tell you, from the first kickoff to the final whistle, you better be ready for a fight. Because there's no quitting these guys. They're not giving up. They're going to keep on coming at you. And that's all part of the military. And that's what's so exciting for me, being part of the Army-Navy game. If Army was in the playoffs, would they still play the Army-Navy game?
This to me is a game that has to continue. I don't know what would happen if Army was in the playoffs. And, you know, we don't have to worry about that right now. But I mean, the USAA does such a tremendous job with our game here, the Army-Navy game. I'm excited. I've never been to one.
And I'm looking so forward to the opportunity to be able to be there, to the pageantry, to see everybody in uniform, to watch these two teams play, 8-3 and 11-1. This is going to be different than, I think, Army-Navy games before where basically they ran the ball a lot. Army wants to control the game. Navy wants to put points up through the air a little bit more.
So there's so many wonderful things that are going on with it. And it's really a chance for the country to come together. It's the only game of the weekend. And I think it should remain that way. And that's what makes it special. And these are young men and women that are leaders. Here's the other thing, too, is, you know, people come up to us as athletes all the time and they call us heroes.
We're not heroes. We're just and appreciate it. Believe me. But, you know, we're just somebody God gave a gift to the ability to run, jump, throw, whatever it might be. And from my perspective, those young men and women that are playing in this game and at the academies and those young men and women that are in uniform around the world, those that put that uniform on are out there defending us.
And any chance you get to be able to say thank you to someone in a uniform, let them know how much you appreciate them. So to me, they're the real heroes because if we go to work and play ball, no matter what it is, you come home. When they go out and do their job, there's no guarantee. And that's why they should be celebrated and appreciated.
And it's an honor to be a part of this particular game.
It's also a cool year because it's in Washington, D.C., which it isn't always in year. Obviously, Washington, D.C. legend. We can ask you about the commanders and a little bit later because they've had a surprising season. But you and RG3, both Washington commanders favorites, are having a cool giveaway that you're doing in conjunction with the game, the Recycled Rides giveaway.
Yeah, we are. What they're doing is they're retrofitted vehicles. It's going to take place 11 o'clock at the National Mall on Friday, tomorrow. And we're basically giving away vehicles, one to Matthew Walker with the Navy. and Caleb Dooley, who's with the Army National Guard. And they're going to be receiving these vehicles. And so much work has gone into it.
So many people have contributed to it. Like I say, USAA is the driving sponsor for this. And it's special to be able to provide someone wheels to be able to do the things that they need to do. Instead of having to figure out a way to get to work, they'll have the opportunity to get in their car and be able to drive.
And like I say, Robert's going to present to the army and I get to present to the Navy.
Joe, before I get to the commanders, because I know you're excited about the success of the of the Washington commanders this year, being a former Washington commander, me and Mikey were saying earlier, we have stopped getting our dad's birthday gifts. I don't get him holiday gifts. Mikey, I'm not certain if he gets some holiday gifts.
Are we bad people, Joe? Oh, no. I think they know how much you love them and they appreciate it. And the fact that you just don't want to spend any money on your dad, I mean, that's up to you, unfortunately.
Why are you making me feel bad if I do?
Well, see, now here's the thing. This is the thing. If I'm making you feel bad, that means that you should get gifts. So he gets mad at me. That's OK. Let him get mad. Let him get mad. Believe me. Let me tell you something. Parents are something special. I've lost both both my mom and my dad. And they're you know, they're just a special part of your life.
And to me, you know, they'll tell you all the time. Don't get me anything. I don't need anything. I don't want anything. Yeah. OK, fine. But I'm giving you this anyway because you deserve it. And do whatever you want with it, but I want you to know I appreciate you. So in all honesty and not joking around, yeah, I think you should give them gifts. I really do.
We're bad people.
You're not bad people. I feel terrible. You just honor them that way.
Joe, have your children stopped giving you gifts yet? No. Okay, good. I was going to say the first, it seems like the first time is going to really hurt. And then after that, they just expect like, okay, my children are just in grades. They're not going to give me anything anymore. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. I buy my Joe for the record. I buy my parents gifts still. Good. Good. He does. Yeah.
He's a good person, Joe. Yeah. I think what's the greatest gift you've ever received, Joe? Uh,
hugs hugs i'll get my dad one of those yeah way out though that's what i do i don't buy him a gift because i don't as joe pointed out i don't want to spend money on my own dad so i give him a hug and i say that's your gift you know well that's a gift yeah it is i feel better now why why why attach a price to a gift right you know you can you can a gift can be knowledge
You know, a hug, a gift can be a look. There's so many ways you can define what a gift is. And to me, you know, I think parents earn the right to be able to get one in some way, shape or form.
A gift can be the team with the first pick in the draft taking Caleb Williams and not Jaden Daniels. Jaden Daniels has been amazing, Joe. How impressed have you been with Jaden Daniels?
Extremely, extremely impressed. I'm impressed with everything about him. I've had a chance to be with him, sat down at lunch with him, get to know the young man a little bit. He's as great a person as we've seen him as a player. And he has great composure. Throws the ball extremely well. And this is something we haven't had in Washington for a while. Throws the ball down the field extremely well.
And that's really what you look for is you're looking for chunk plays in our game. You're not going to go 10, 11, 12 plays all the time. And it's very difficult to do it on a number of occasions. But if you can get those big plays, which he's able to do, I think it makes a world of difference. And you've got to give Cliff Kingsbury, I think, a lot of credit. Yeah.
You know, like what Caleb's going through in Chicago, turmoil as a coordinator, turmoil everywhere around him. There is stability with Jaden. There's stability in what he's able to do. And I love the way Cliff starts a game with him. He gets the ball out of his hands. I remember when Peyton Manning first went to the Indianapolis Colts, Tom Moore was the coach.
Tom, Pittsburgh coach, now he's in Tampa, still coaching. And I sat with him one day, we were doing an Indianapolis game, and I said, how do you deal with Peyton? He says, first of all, you have to keep giving him stuff because he continues to want to get better and better and better. You have to have a bucket full of things to present to him.
But I made my mind up that I didn't want to get him beat up physically or mentally. So in his first year there, the routes were short. He got the ball out of his hands and he developed the ability to be the Hall of Famer that he is to be able to get the ball out, to be able to not take negative plays. And what I see so often now in the you mentioned, Caleb, in the Chicago situation is.
managing a game and people would say oh this guy's just a manager that's not an insult guys that's a compliment because it means that you're not making you don't start changing plays when there's 30 seconds on the clock you don't start throwing the ball into when you have a chance to score thrown in in places where you're not going to get a chance to put points on the board
You're sliding to protect yourself. You're getting out of bounds. You know, that's a manager. And so if somebody called me a manager of a game, hey, I'm thrilled because that's my job. If you look definition of a quarterback, manage the game, that's your definition. And Brady was a manager.
Yeah. He was at the beginning, right? Brady was a manager at the beginning. People forget that.
Even at the end. You know, even at the end, you know, the last Peyton won the Super Bowl in Denver. Great defense, but he outmanaged the game over Cam Newton. Right. Cam was on the other side of the, you know, he was quarterback Carolina and Peyton managed the way he couldn't throw like he did when he was younger. He knew that, but he managed it so well.
And this is this is just, you know, classic Peyton.
Joe, we'll get you out of here in a second. We always appreciate the time. I want to run this by you. If Notre Dame wins the national championship, we at God Bless Football believe they should then have to play Northern Illinois. Do you agree? No.
not really already done that they already did no need to worry joe yeah you're afraid what's happening here i'm not a rear view i'm not a rear view mirror guy i'm looking through that windshield seeing where we're going not what happened behind us right you kind of want to get that off the resume that blemish though you know what i'm saying get a second double or nothing there's no eraser on it that's the problem it's there
It's not like you have this giant eraser and you're just... It ain't going away.
All right, Joe. One more time on the way out here. Tell us what you're doing with Recycle Brides giveaway for the Army-Navy game coming up this weekend.
USAA, who's been... actually a title sponsor for the Army-Navy game for over 100 years, as providing an opportunity for two servicemen at this point to be able to receive vehicles. They're retrofitted vehicles. And the presentation will take place on the National Mall at 11 o'clock on Friday the 13th, oddly enough.
And they're going to be given an opportunity to have vehicles because they need rides. And that's basically what USAA is doing, is they're providing them an opportunity. I'll give one to the young man representing the Navy, and Robert Griffin III will do it for the young man representing the Army.
That is fine work you're doing, Joe. We always appreciate the time. Happy holidays to you and your family. You look fantastic, man. You really do. You look amazing.
I appreciate it, guys. Thanks so much. Thanks for taking some time with me.

NFL Week 15, 5-2 a week ago, 61-38-2 on the season. Here we go. Dolphins plus three, take it on the Texans, buy it up to 3-1⁄2. The Dolphins win the game outright. They win by seven points at Detroit. Steelers plus five and a half. Take it on the Eagles. Buy it up to six. Eagles win. Steelers cover. Eagles by a field goal. Bucks plus three, take it on the Chargers.
Buy it up to three and a half. The Chargers, they're going to lose the game outright. Baker Mayfield gets a big W. The Bucks win by six points on the road. Packers minus three at Seattle. Buy it down to two and a half. The Packers win. They cover the Packers by ten points on the road. Vikings, minus 6.5. They're taking on the Bears. Bears are bad. Vikings are good, but no one thinks they're good.
Vikings, buy it down to 6. They win. They cover the Vikings by 10 points at home. And finally, the Falcons at the Raiders. The Raiders don't need it. The Falcons do. It is minus 4. The Falcons win. They cover Atlanta by 8 points on the road over the Raiders. Those are the picks, everyone. Good luck.

DKNG.co slash Smirnoff. I'm doing it. I'm not going to say first place. I'm going to say top seven. Top seven. That's my prediction for me this week. Thoughts?
I think I'm coming for that spot. I think I'm coming for sixth then.
Okay. Well, realistically, I'm probably going to finish 470th or lower. So anyways, if you want to compete against us and beat us and take our money, go to DKNG.co slash Smirnoff. That's our weekly listener league presented by Smirnoff, the world's number one vodka. Please drink responsibly.
Yo, yo. Yo, yo, mofos. What's up? What's up? You know, just another day, another hard-earned dollar. What's going on with you guys? Ha, ha, ha.
Just another day, huh? Another hard-earned dollar.
Just another hard-earned dollar. That's right. All right, good. Billy's back in normal gear. Yep, I like that. That's better. You look better like that.
He's got your jersey up. Jersey's there. Perfect. Perfect. I have a question for you. So I saw your normal co-host was out and you had a fill-in co-host. And I'm wondering why you never invite us to kind of co-host with you when it's time for fill-ins on your podcast, you know? Mm-hmm.
Well, one, the people who fill in are here in person. So are you going to fly up? Absolutely.
I'll tell you right now, if you invite us to fill in with you on your podcast, we will fly up to NBC to do that with you. And expect it to levitate.
Yes, we will.
All right. Well, we'll note that. Or the peacock, someone. Also, it happened like very last second, right?
It was one of those things where there was some sort of family emergency and Ahmed Farid couldn't pull it off, right? So I joke with him and I've had some jokes.
So then he couldn't do it Wednesday, too, because it kind of spilled over. So my last two, I haven't done with him. You know, and I know he's okay. He's got something he's dealing with, but I've been making fun of him.
You know, he drinks energy drinks, so I always jump on him for that. Like, oh, nothing like some good old poison in a bottle. Hold on a second. Now you're trying to make us feel bad about the fact that you didn't invite us.
Coming from the guy, drinky, smokey, smokey. I mean, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, man up. Drink your poison like it's meant to be. Alcohol, okay? Okay, that's how it's supposed to be. All right. Not like, you know, sour patch infused energy heart attack drink. Yeah, that to me is like, ugh. You drink energy drinks, you guys? You do that? No, no. All right. Yeah. You don't need energy drink. I know.
Let me check. No, none of them are currently sponsoring us.
So no, we do not drink that.
But if there was one, we would think that one was delicious and different.
That one definitely is the good one.
PFT with Mike Florio every day on Peacock, the Unbuttoned podcast as well. Football night in America, Sunday night football. I'm going to start baseball. Go ahead, Billy. You go. I had a baseball question for him, but you go first.
Hold on. Hold on a second.
Your baseball question. Just don't. I don't want to hear it.
Well, hold on a second, because, Chris, I have news for you that I don't think you're aware of. Not related to baseball. Get to baseball in a second. But God bless football. The show that you're on right now is nominated for Best American Football Podcast in the Sports Podcast Awards. Voting is open now. We would love we would love to get your endorsement.
Tell people to come vote for us so that we could win this award. Do we have your endorsement?
Of course you got my endorsement. Let's go. I mean, it is a damn good football cast and football podcast. And we get a lot of good info even when I'm not here. And then, you know, when I am here, I push us over the top to greatness, the award winnings type of stuff. So I see what you do, Billy.
Well, I very much I very much appreciate that. And I appreciate your endorsement because one of the other shows that we're going up against is your brother, Matt, and your father, Phil's podcast for the exact award.
I love it.
You're not part of that podcast, but you're part of this one. So I feel like it's time for us to wage war on the Simses. You know what I mean?
That's right. Yeah. F*** them. They've never invited me on their podcast. F*** them. Let's go. God bless football. Hell yeah. Why haven't they invited you? It's terrible. That's a good question. I don't know why. It's terrible. They don't invite me to a lot of things. All right. So I'm like the outcast of the family. I don't know where I stand there exactly. All right.
You want baseball or Texas first? Which one? Go. Well, they're both depressing.
OK, but OK, go baseball first. Let's get that out of the way. All right. What hurts more? I mean, Soto leaving hurts because you're a Yankee fan, but he went to the Mets. And so I think that that has to make it like that has to compound it by like, I don't know, 50 times as opposed to him going to the Dodgers.
It adds a little extra. It does. I'd actually rather go to the Mets than the Dodgers. I'll just say that. I would. It just hurts more as the Yankee part. Man, we had something special. Aaron Judge and... And Soto's handshake is as cool as it gets, and the back-to-back bombers, and that's just what we're supposed to be, the New York Yankees. So that's where it hurts.
I actually don't really care that he went to the Mets. The Mets will find a way to f*** this whole thing up. I can promise you that in a lifetime of watching it, other than like two years in the history of their existence. So that's where I'd be more scared if they went to the Dodgers, because the Dodgers, I'd be like, oh, no. But damn, I mean... It does. It's a new era, man.
I mean, the New York Yankees, it's the attendance record every year. Got our own channel. And now we don't even have enough money to compete with some of the teams in the NFL and MLB. Like that to me is the biggest shock of all. Does the Steinbrenners need to sell the damn thing and we need to get some hedge funders in there?
Oh, my Lord.
Get them back in there. I'm with you. Sims, I'm 100% with you. We don't have enough money for Juan Soto, but we'll give an eight-year contract, a record-breaking contract to a pitcher who pitches 19 games a year. Brian Kessler is terrible.
That was an apology, though.
I want... And we don't have enough money when teams like the Dodgers and the Mets can just outbid us every year. Yeah. Baseball set up for monopoly capitalism. You were the Yankees. We got more than you deal with it. All right. That's the way I like my baseball and I'm not getting it right now. I'm just, I'm with you Sims.
I'll remind you, you went to the world series a year ago.
I know. We didn't win it, though.
Exactly.
Going to the World Series, that's... You went to the NLCS.
What do you need Soto for?
We go to the World Series every other year for a century straight. We're not worried about going. We win. That's what we want to do.
Going and losing is Tampa Bay Rays. Exactly. Exactly right. Well said, Philly.
you don't like the current structure of baseball dsm the yankees thrived i know i know that's why i don't like it i don't like that we're not king of that structure still i like my football equal right but i want my baseball unequal i want the yankees to be the king of the world that all the time said i'm disappointed with that that is so good all right so uh put us in the living room drinky drinky smoky smoky as texas was losing to georgia
I had my mom and dad were over, right? I was actually decorating the Christmas tree that night while I was on. When we went in 6-3 at halftime, right, after basically just totally dominating the first half and only being up 6-3, I was like, oh. We should be up by two touchdowns, three touchdowns. I can't believe this. So that was a hurt. That hurt.
But then when Georgia went down and scored, right, the first drive of the third quarter to take the lead, it's just the worst year for this to happen because I work with Maria Taylor, who went to Georgia. She hosts the college football show I'm on. She hosts Football Night in America. She also is maybe my biggest adversary in talking shit, if you can believe that.
Nobody can talk with me except for Maria Taylor. So I have to deal with her. And I'm telling you, like, she's as good as it gets. Any locker room I've ever been in and anything. So they score. My family's there. And as soon as they cross the goal line, I go, oh, I go, Maria is going to FaceTime me. And I mean, before I can say FaceTime, it's. And she's on the phone and harassing me.
So of all years of all teams, Georgia, Maria Taylor, she's killing me. And then, you know, she may be put on Georgia gear all Sunday and wear that around the facility. It's just embarrassing. It really is. I hope we get another shot. National championship game.
We're going to go. It doesn't end your season.
We're going to go. National championship. And I told Maria, if we're both in it, because we thought about Boeing to both matchups. If we go, she's way richer than I am. I said, you buy the private plane and we'll go to the game and enjoy it.
You have a decent path. You have to play Clemson in the first round and then Arizona State, then Oregon if Oregon is still around. Oregon or Ohio State. Oregon always loses a dumb one like every year and they haven't lost a dumb one yet this year. So you wonder if it's going to happen early on. But I mean, at the very least.
Our path is the best that it can get. It can't get any better, right? I mean, we're better than Clemson. We're better than Arizona State. All you can ask for is, hey, you're going to have a chance to be in the Final Four and you get this chance to show yourself and prove yourself. And I still think we're one of the best teams in college football, if not the best.
We're definitely one of the two or three best. Now we get to decide it on the field.
Chris, you know Belichick very, very well. Your family knows Bill Belichick very, very well. Were you surprised by the news of Bill Belichick going to North Carolina? Beyond. Beyond surprised. Shocked.
Yeah. I mean, you know, I said all the same things that... You heard Brady and Gronkowski and Edelman say on the pregame of Fox last week. Like, what? Bill Belichick with a bunch of kids talking to parents? Johnny's dad called. He's not getting enough playoff playing time. Like, what? Bill Belichick?
He couldn't even talk to Tom Brady after he won seven Super Bowls when he was like, hey, I think we should throw them more. Throw them more. F*** you, Tom. Get out of the building. Like, what? Like, that's the way I am. I'm shocked. I'm beyond shocked.
But at the same time, and this is where I guess I'm not a little shocked, I'm not like totally shocked that teams in the NFL didn't want him, right? And that's what you were getting a sense of. I think there was some forwarding and some talking with Tampa Bay. I think Jacksonville was in the conversation a little bit, but I think obviously they decided they did not want to go that route.
I don't think there was much of a calling for him, his age, right? How much longer he's going to coach. How much is he going to ask to control an organization?
All of those, I think, were detractors for hiring Bill Belichick, let alone, this is something that I tell everybody, and I don't know if everybody knows this, is just that how much the New England coaches, Belichick, and the staff behind him are disliked by the majority of the NFL.
You know, that's where his like, you know, New England and their chest out and we're the Patriots and we win Super Bowls and do all that. It's rubbed a lot of the league the wrong way. You know, I definitely have friends that are like, oh, Belichick, oh, those people there, blah, blah, blah, right? It's all, oh, they invented football.
They're probably going to tell us how to, you know, throw the football now. They invented it. It's all that kind of stuff. And a little bit is just because of the way it was run up there in New England. It was very tight-lipped. Coaches weren't allowed to talk to other coaches in the pregame and everything there. And the kind of guys he hired are not necessarily all social guys either way.
But I think, you know, you burn as many bridges as he did throughout the NFL with the way he treated people for so long. I think he had a lot of people that were like, I would do anything not to have Bill Belichick in my building. And I think you saw all that kind of come to a pinnacle here. Interesting.
Are you more surprised that he took this job or that the NFL was not interested in Bill?
I think I'm more surprised that he took this job, right? I knew the NFL wasn't interested in Bill, but I guess I still thought there might be one team that would go, let's do it, right? That makes sense, whatever, blah, blah, blah. And I thought maybe Tampa would be that team with Jason Light being there who also worked in New England at one point.
And there was some tangible things I heard behind the scenes to think that there was some talk there. But Todd Bowles comes out. I mean, he says he's not retiring. Do that. Things obviously change on that front. But, yeah, I'm I think all in all surprised with the college thing. Again, here's my thing. The recruiting. Right. Talking. Having to be personable to kids and family. Right.
I think he's like, is he going to recruit? Again, he better recruit. You better not wait on other people. This is the NIL era, right? And you're North Carolina. You're a basketball school. So you can't just go, oh, I hope Mike Lombardi and other people in my staff will recruit. No.
Johnny, who's thinking about Ohio State, LSU, and North Carolina, at some point, he's going to want to talk to Bill Belichick and hear about it and hear him because he's going to go, wait, wait. Ohio State's offering me $3 million. The stadium's way cooler. It's a football school. I'm going to win the national championship. All that, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, I know Bill Belichick.
I heard of him when I was growing up, but what? Like what? So he's going to have to do that stuff, let alone the coaching hours, Stugatz. The brilliance of Belichick is his ability to grind film and come up with these creative game plans. In college football, he's going to have to be elementary for his standards.
He won't even get to show you his great wisdom because he's not going to have enough time to implement this with some of these kids on the college level.
Billy, the good news is that record is staying with Shula, it appears. Yeah, I don't care.
You're a Dolphin fan, man.
You're safe. You're safe. Shula's safe. Shula can rest easy, who is also one that doesn't sound like he's the biggest fan of Bill Belichick.
Chris, the Tua we've seen the last four or five weeks, is this the best version of Tua you've seen?
most efficient yeah i'm not gonna say it's the best i feel like you know those early first year and a half with mike mcdaniel were pretty damn special and and the fact of the big plays the way they were executing the offense and all of that now not all that falls on two of course because people have caught up to the offense and all that and you know what we've said the last few weeks i think they've changed their philosophy a little bit into hey he's our franchise we're
We're paying them and we'll add more plays where we get the ball out of our hands quicker. They're a pain in the ass the way they play that way, right? A ball control pass offense, they can chew clock up. If you play zone, they will absolutely pick you apart. There's no doubt about that. And of course, then if you start to play man-to-man because you're worried about that,
They can still find ways to beat you down the field and find creative ways to get Tyreek and Waddle on the run. So it's damn good. That's for sure. The Dolphins are, you know, it's unfortunate he got hurt because you're a playoff caliber football team that's fighting for their life now just because of that situation.
Chris, I'm wondering how you feel about this because you had a good game on Sunday night. You had a cute game. Packers, Seahawks, but you don't have the game. And I don't know why. I don't know why the NFL did not flex. What is the game? Oh, come on. You know what the game is now.
I know you're going to say Bill's Lions, but Eagle Steelers is also pretty big. That's all I'm saying.
Well, whatever. Regardless, either way, the NFL let you down by not flexing one of these games into Sunday night football because I feel like Bill's Lions is a big one. Steelers, Eagles, okay, fine, whatever. But Bill's Lions, Chris. Josh Allen is so good.
Yeah. Yeah. This just in. OK.
He's like, was that a question? Like Josh Allen is one of the greatest we've ever seen. Right. I mean, he's one of the greatest. Josh Allen is a first ballot Hall of Famer for for my money. I know he needs the hardware to go along with that. But Josh Allen's one of the best quarterbacks I've ever seen in my life. He's John Elway 30 years later.
And unfortunately, so far, the start of his career is the John Elway story where they just can't win the big game. And it's not because of John Elway. It's because of the rest of the team. And like so many times, John Elway went to the Super Bowl and lost it. Oh, John Elway can't win the Super Bowl.
And then the point was, it was like nobody could have brought those teams to the Super Bowl other than John Elway. That was it. That's where sometimes people drop the ball in the big picture of what's going on there. Allen's crazy, is insane. I wish we got that game too. The flexing stuff, Billy, has become very complicated. I don't really understand all of it.
They can protect certain games, CBS and Fox. So I don't know. I'm not complaining. Ours is pretty damn good. I'll take it. But yeah, that Bill's Lions game, I think it'll be a lot like you saw the Bills and the Rams last week. It's going to be a high-scoring game. I picked it to be 41-38, I believe. Neither one of these defenses will be able to stop the other.
The Bills' defense is not good, and they're definitely not good when McDermott gets put in the bind of you have to stop an equally good run game and pass game. See, he can come up with game plans to stop like, oh, if the team is like, let's say Miami, they're really good at throwing the football. I know they're creative running the football, but it's not like they maul you, right?
They're not going to maul you. They do it with creativity. So he can hedge on, okay, yeah, they might get a few good runs or blah, blah, blah, but we're going to play to stop the pass because we don't feel like they're just going to blow us off the ball game and the run game, right? The Rams can do that. The Lions can do that and the Bills can't play man to man.
So when teams start to run the ball, they try to play man to man and everybody runs by them. So they're in a tough bind. They're going to give up a lot of points this weekend. But with the injuries on the Lions and their defense and no big pass rushers on the edge, This is the kind of games Josh Allen can take over. So I expect this one to be awesome, Billy, to your point.
I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm most excited about that game this weekend, too. I second what you're saying.
To what you were saying before, Josh Allen had a game last week that we've never seen from anyone ever. No one has had the three passing touchdowns, the three rushing touchdowns. He was just incredible. And Stu Gatz has been making the point all week, and I'm wondering if you will co-sign on this. He has said that Sean McDermott, Josh will never win with Sean McDermott as his coach.
I mean, Chris, that decision to run the ball on first and goal cost them the game. That was a terrible decision.
Or if you're going to run it, just don't call the timeout. I'm with you. I know what you're saying. Get the f*** up off of the quarterback sneak and call another play. The timeout was more valuable than anything, right? That's your point, and that's where they messed it up. But yeah, I'm with you.
There's two or three times every year where McDermott kind of has some questionable end-of-the-game decisions. But Billy, I'm a fan of him and his coaching and what he does. I'm more not a fan of the personnel they've had. That would be my biggest issue. Again, on the defense, who is there to write home about?
Tell me the defensive lineman that's going to ever make a play or the team has to worry about game planning for, right? Who is it? Right? Secondary. Can you name a guy in their secondary if I really sit here and talk to you about it? I mean, again, yeah, go ahead, Billy. Look it up as you're sitting there. That's what you're doing right now. Yeah, 100%. That's what I mean.
They got Matt Milano, a linebacker, but that's my point, and he's not a himself yet. There's not enough dudes there. And that, therefore, goes into Josh Allen. We've got to outscore against the best teams.
Now, the difference is this year is he's got enough weapons and an offensive line around him to where I do think in these games where we go, oh, Josh Allen's got to be superstar and take it over, he can overcome it because there's enough help around him, at least on the offensive side of the ball. I don't think he'll be able to do it this week.
He'll keep it close, but I think the Lions will win the game.
Chris, are the Eagles the most dysfunctional 11-2 team in the history of the NFL?
They got some issues. They definitely do. It's crazy. Unseating the Eagles of last year, I think. Well, this is all... What's really coming to light is stuff that really people like myself and a lot of people have known for a while. That there's issues in that locker room. And a lot of them stem around Jalen Hurts. And I know that from too many people and credible positions.
And I even said on Florio's show the other day, you know, again, he's flown home with the owner on the private plane while the rest of the team goes home on the team plane. There's just been too many things like that. He tells them how to run the offense and the offense he wants to run. I mean, he made a quote yesterday that the offense will look how Jalen Hurts wants it to look.
I mean, if that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does. So, yeah, their offense is elementary. You've heard me. I've been saying that. Then where they get frustrated is when you look at who they've played over the last eight to nine games, they've played like the worst defenses in football. If you can pick the worst defenses in football, that's who they've played.
Browns, Giants, Bengals, Jaguars. Cowboys, Ravens, Panthers. Okay, the Commanders are respectable. The Rams are like the 20th something ranked defense in football. So my point is they know how super talented they are, right? When you're on a team like that, the guys know. And as you've heard me say, it's no doubt the best O-line in football. It's those two receivers.
It's up there with Waddle and Tyreek for the two best tandem in football, right? It's the best running back. It's the best defense in football. So it's boiling over because they're going, what? Carolina? Well, we should be steamrolling them. And I showed that on my podcast yesterday. There's people open. The ball's not being thrown. The reads are not being made appropriately.
Now, the good thing is he's not turning the ball over, and if he doesn't do that, they're so good, they're still hard to beat with all the problems I'm talking about. But they've got to fix some things on offense. Again, we're holding them to the standard of they've got to try to beat the Lions, the Ravens.
Those teams in the Super Bowl, I know they're going to beat Carolina and some of these other teams when they play B- football. It's not about that. It's the bigger conversation of winning the Super Bowl that is concerning, I think, with the Eagles altogether.
Who do you like in that game? It is a great game, Steelers and Eagles. Who do you like there?
I'm going to take the Eagles. I am. Here's my big thing, especially if Pickens doesn't play. I just think it's going to be hard for Pittsburgh to move the ball. If Pickens doesn't play, I'm going to go, good luck moving the ball. Because Philly can do everything. Philly can play. They're one of the best zone teams in football. They're also one of the best man teams in football.
And if George Pickens is not there, they're going to go, we're playing man. We don't think any of you guys can run away from us. Jalen Carter, in my opinion, is a sneaky defensive MVP, NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. He f***s the play up about as much as anybody in football. I don't think they're going to be able to run the ball.
Now, we talked about the concerns with the Eagles offense, and they're not complicated and all that. and the Steelers' defense is good, and that's going to be the big thing. Can the Steelers' defense stop that run without having to go all in to stop the run, right? Can they find ways to stop the run and then help Joey Porter one-on-one against A.J. Brown outside and some of that?
That's going to be the real magic of the football game with that, and I don't think so. I think the Eagles are another class up from the Steelers talent-wise, and I had them winning 27-13, Stu Gatz.
All right, PFT with Mike Florio, the Unbuttoned Podcast, and also Football Night in America, Sunday Night Football. Final one for me here, Chris. Are we going to not care about the Minnesota Vikings right up until the Vikings are playing in the Super Bowl?
We care. I mean, it's the, it's the most disrespected 11 and two team I can, you know, ever remember. I'm with you there. I know what you're saying. Yeah. It's insane. And no one takes them seriously. And I don't know why. No, I, I, I get it. You know, I, I think it's, um,
They haven't had as many dominant wins as the Eagles and the Lions and the Ravens and some of the teams that are at the top of football. I think that's part of it. Yeah, they don't have the shiny, sexy, what everybody deems to be the franchise quarterback. I think there was a question marks about Sam Darnold. Listen, the guy I do pro football talk with, Mike Florio, he's a Vikings fan.
He spent five weeks saying in the middle of the year going, I think they should trade for Matthew Stafford and put Sam Darnold on the bench. So it's all that stuff that just leads to not everybody giving them the love they deserve. And their defense is good, but no marquee star on that side of the ball that I think people can latch on to and talk to. Damn good football team.
I expect them to win the wildcard round, wherever that may end up being. But after that, yeah, then you get into the final four in the NFC. Okay, yeah, they can go toe-to-toe, but I'm certainly, I still don't think I'm going to put them as far as I think there is a good team as the Eagles, the Lions. And I think the Packers are more talented too. Not by a lot, but I think they are.
But yeah, we certainly let them fly under the radar a little too much, I think, to your point, Stu Gatz.
All right, Chris, we appreciate it. Every single week, PFT with Mike Florio, the Unbuttoned Podcast, Football Night in America, and right here on God Bless Football every single week. Thank you, buddy. Next time you need to fill in, I'll call Billy, okay?
Okay, I'll call Billy. All right, good luck with the voting. Kick the shit out of that Sims podcast. All right, guys?
Good luck with that.
Vote on God bless football. Okay. Peace out, guys. See you. You're never getting invited to your family show. Trying to get him disinvited from Christmas now. That's what I'm trying to do.
See you, man.

Man, the Jets.
What about them? What about the Jets?
Well, I was listening to a show preview in the head coaching openings of the offseason, and they were just, you know, good job, bad job. If you were a prospective head coach, would you want to take this job? Who's going to want the Jets job? Like, that's a tough situation.
But a bunch of people will want that job, no?
That's right. There's a lot of talent. You just have to deal with that owner.
Anywhere in New York, there is some talent. There is some talent.
So I suspect it wouldn't be like a talent.
Carl's got to go to court.
Yes, he's dressed up. He is. He's very dressed up. He's ready to go. He's ready to make some picks. Right, Carl Douglas?
Exactly right, Stu Guy. Some of us have to dress up for court. You can't just go in a hoodie.
Right, okay. Speaking of court, Carl, you and I need to speak off air about something, okay? I'm thinking about suing Major League Baseball, all right?
We'll talk. We'll talk.
We'll talk. Okay. Is Mojo joining today?
We have Mojo's picks and we have Gordy's picks, which is a shame because Gordy went 4-1 last week after a 5-0 week the week before. And here, what's that, K-Fun?
He went 3-1-1. There was a tie last week. Yeah, the tie last week. Okay, well, whatever.
Check your notes, Billy.
I have him as 4-1, so I'm just going to give him the 4-1 there.
Of course you will. Why wouldn't you?
In doing so, he also has extended his lead over K-Funk for the final standings here.
How did he get... I went undefeated last week, so that's... You did not go undefeated. You could not have gone undefeated. You gave an extra win and he jumped over me? That's strange.
Where is she, by the way? Yeah, where is she?
Hey, you know what's funny, Stu Gatz? Last week, this guy had a 20-minute monologue about how undefeated this and undefeated that. And then I go undefeated, and this guy just starts talking about Gordon.
Well, Carl has to go to court, so we don't have time for your victory speeches here. Let's get to the picks here. Let's do it. Blame me.
Blame me. Just blame me. Blame the black guy.
Yeah.
Peep.
Peep.
I'm used to it.
I'm used to it. Listen, we have one guy on this panel who has a job. Let's let him get to it. That hurts my feelings. Oh, I'm sorry, Mikey. Let's get to the games here. We have Ravens and Giants. Giants are, well, they're a dumpster fire. They're plus 14 and a half. They're at home taking on the Ravens. Billy, I'm going to you first for Mojo's picks. Who did Mojo take here?
Mojo has the Ravens. Okay. Who did Gordy take here?
gordy has the ravens as well wow that's a that's a big number uh share bear going to you here ravens at giants giants plus 14 and a half at home what you got you know i'm flying i'm flying up to new york here on friday for the eisman ceremony on saturday um so i'm gonna um i'm gonna go with the giants i'm gonna go with the home team open uh it spurts some good night uh good night fun for the weekend all right mike rollis who you taking here
Well, last week I took the Eagles to cover a 12.5 point spread. That didn't work out for me. But they were due for a down game. And I think this week the Ravens are the opposite. They're coming up firing off the bye week. So I'm taking the Ravens.
All right. Carl Douglas, who are you taking here? Ravens at Giants. Giants plus 14.5.
That's a lot of points. I lost last week on the points too, Mike, but I agree with you. I'm going with the Ravens off the bye week. I got the ball on my fantasy team.
All right. Very important. Thank you. Kay Funk, who are you taking here?
Well, unlike all you guys, I actually took Carolina last week in the points, so I'm going to give me four points.
I can't believe that you're trying to celebrate a tie and calling it undefeated because you didn't technically lose, even though it was a tie.
What is undefeated?
You're celebrating like you were 5-0. You weren't 5-0.
Hold on, K-Fo. To Billy's point, do you think the Dolphins would be making such a big deal about the undefeated season if one of those games was a tie?
All I'm saying is this guy comes on talking about Gordy this, Gordy that. Gave Gordy an extra win. I don't know how he did that. And then doesn't even mention the fact that I had no losses last year.
He's never been defeated.
It's par to the course. ShareBear had zero wins. We didn't talk about that.
Why would we, though? I mean, ShareBear, we love him. Ojo had one win.
We're not going to talk about him.
Why would we do that? We don't like kicking people when they're down. Right, not here. Well... We have a heart.
People like kicking when they're down.
Hey, Carl Douglas has to get the court, K-Funk, all right? Yeah, come on, K-Funk. Colts at Broncos. Broncos are minus four. Poor K-Funk. Let's go to Carl Douglas first. Colts at Broncos. Broncos minus four at home, Carl.
Broncos are playing a little better. I'll take them and give up the points.
Okay. Mike Rollis, who are you taking here? Colts at Broncos. Broncos minus four.
Yep, I'm in lockstep here with Carl, so I'm going Broncos.
Okay. Billy, who did Mojo and Gordy take? They both took the Broncos. Okay. Cher Bear, who are you taking here? I'm taking the Broncos, too. Right. You're hot. I mean, seriously. All on the Broncos. Okay, Funk, who are you taking? Funk?
I'm taking the Colts here. Give me the points. Wow.
Yeah.
Stepping out. Stepping out. Stepping out. My Gator boy, let's do it. Give me the points.
Okay. I will have, you know, on the next game, which is the game of the weekend, by the way. And there is no one better at gambling on this show than Billy Gill. Okay. It's two guys is better. That's true. Yeah. I mean, now Billy Gill is the best. Okay.
His record is impeccable.
I will tell you that earlier today, Billy, I believe chose the lions to lose this game. He has the bills winning the game outright. So it is a big game. It's bills at lions. Billy. First, I'm going to you on Mojo and Gordy. Who did they take?
mojo has the lions gordy has the bills wow so gordy agreeing with uh with billy uh let's go to share bear share bear who you taking i'm actually i was uh same thing i'm agreeing with gordy and billy i'm going with the bills wow incredible uh k funk are you taking here yeah it is a coin toss come on this game's tough man give me the bills minus two and a half though
I don't know. All right. You're taking the Bills here. Yep. Okay. Carl, who are you taking here? What's the spread? What's the spread? Lions minus two and a half, Carl. Two and a half. Yeah.
I went to the game last week and watched my Rams beat the Bills in probably the greatest offensive game of the year.
Yep.
I'm taking the Lions. This is the two best teams in the league right now. I'm taking the Lions. Give me the point.
All right. Mike Rollis, who are you taking?
Yeah, the Lions have been playing with fire a little bit recently, and I think the Bills bounce back from, I mean, a really fun offensive game, but pretty putrid defensive performance. When I doubt, I got to take the points. I'll go Bills.
Take the over, too, while you're at it.
Some bonus advice from you there, K-Punk?
Is that a lock of the week?
Yeah, I'm going to write that down.
Wallace is right. Carl, my biggest bet last week was your Rams, man.
Carl's got to get to court, K-Punk. Hey, hey, hey, love it, love it. Great game.
He has no time for you.
Let Carl get to court.
Let's go to the next game here. Packers at Seahawks. Seahawks are plus two and a half at home. I can't figure out the Seahawks, man. They drive me crazy. Let's go to Mike Rollins first. Mike, who are you taking here? Packers at Seahawks. Seattle is plus two and a half at home.
Yeah, heartbreaking loss last week for my Cardinals. We're really, you know, really hurt our playoff chances, but there's a sliver of hope, and so I got to go with my heart over my head here, and I got to take the Packers. That's who I'm rooting for, so I got the Packers covering.
All right, let's go to ShareBear. ShareBear, who are you taking here? Packers at Seahawks. Seahawks plus two and a half. I have a feeling it's Seattle. Space Needle.
It's been a while. I went against Seattle a couple times, but I'm going with the Space Needle. Exactly. Let's go with Seattle. It's probably good weather up there. We're going with them. You're not playing indoors. All right, I could have skipped you there. Are you going to the Heisman presentation?
Yeah, I'm actually playing pickleball with me, Danny, Charlie Ward, Eric Crouch, Tebow, Johnny Rogers, Cam Newton, and then one other guy. Let me think who else. One other former Heisman I'm playing on Saturday before the thing. So it should be pretty cool.
Yes or no from anyone in this group, Charlie Ward is the greatest college quarterback of all time. Mike Rollins?
I mean, other than Tebow or Newton, but yeah. I disagree. No.
Tommy Frazier. Tommy Frazier. Tommy Frazier.
Wow.
God, he was good. Carl's getting mad at me. I'm sorry, Carl. No, I'm fine. I'm fine. Did everyone pick that Packers-Seahawks game to get all the picks in? No. Who didn't pick the game? No. Carl, did you pick the game? I got sidetracked by Heisman talk. Carl, go ahead.
This is a tough one, man. The Seahawks let me down. I'm going to go with the Packers. All right, you're taking the Packers here.
Billy, who did Mojo and Gordy take? Mojo took the Packers. Gordy took the Seahawks. K-Funk hasn't picked yet.
All right, go ahead, K-Funk.
I'm with you real quick. I can't figure out Seattle either. I'll give you a defensive benefit of the doubt. Give me the Packers.
All right, final game. We'll go to Carl first here so he can get out of here. He has better things to do. Bears at Vikings. Vikings are minus six and a half here, Carl. Who are you taking?
I'm taking the Vikings. Give it the point. They wouldn't buy a touchdown. All right. So the Vikings buy a touchdown.
Carl, before you get out of here, would you like to promote your law firm on the way out?
Certainly. I'm headed right now on behalf of the greatest firm in Southern California, Douglas Hicks Law. We are nationwide. We are worldwide. Douglas Hicks Law. Happy holidays, everybody.
Same to you, Carl. Good luck. Thanks, Carl. I'll talk to you next week about suing Major League Baseball, okay?
We'll talk about it.
We'll talk about it. Okay. Bye. He's in a rush. Let's go to Mike Rollins here. Bears at Vikings. Man, it's tough for me and Mikey A to watch Sam Darnold every single week. Oh, man. This is tricky. It's hard for us. But the Vikings are six and a half point favorites. And it's amazing. The Vikings, as good as they've been, no one takes them seriously. So, Mike, who are you taking here?
Vikings minus six and a half with the Bears.
Well, I took the Bears – I thought the Bears might get a little bit of a bounce, you know, the interim head coach bounce, and they did not last week. So, I mean, that's over. I got to go with the Vikes here. I mean, the Bears had more – I think it was more penalties than yards in the first half last week.
Yep.
Five penalties to three yards, something like that. And I just got to, now that Carl's gone and we can take our time a little bit, I got to throw out an excuse for last week. So last week I made all of my picks in a British accent. I'm a method actor, right? So I'm a method actor. I have to get in the head of a Brit to do that accent. They don't know ball.
You know what I mean?
They don't know ball. So that's where I went wrong. Only got one win. Kind of just lucked into that one. But this week I'm back in my normal American accent and I'm going bikes over.
We're going to throw that out. No, no, no. Yeah. Do it in a Southern accent where they care about. Yes. That's what I need now. All right. Do you need a second? Do you want to give him a week next week?
Next week, next week, next week, I'll come out with a, with a Southern accent, but, uh, This is just a little preview for you right here. We're going to go with the Bears. No, not the Bears. Sorry, we're going with the Tigers.
The accent threw you off.
I started to pick wrong again.
Jesus. You just started railing against the Bears.
I don't know. I get too deep into the accent.
While I look over that tie, if you want, I can switch your picks from last week, Mike.
Might as well. Yeah. Because he was a different person making the picks. Yeah.
You know what I'm going to put? I'm going to put British Mike, and then that'll just be last week's standings, and then the rest won't go against you. British Mike, not great.
And you'll have Southern Mike, too. You'll have – Everybody seems to be on board with this. Unless he goes 5-0, and then he wants them to count for him. Right.
Yeah, yeah. Save country, at least, then. You know what I mean?
K-Funk hates us.
I mean, I'm undefeated with two chicks at my house. Undefeated. Might as well put that one, too.
Well, no one's at your house today, so.
All right, fine. So last week didn't count for K-Funk. It just counted for two chick funk.
Hey, Mike Yates. Mike Yates, now that we got a little time. Two chick funk. Oh, shit.
You're the Bears or the Vikings, K-Funk. Yes, thank you, Billy.
I'll tell you this. Darnold will not have five touchdowns this week for sure. So I'm going to take the Bears. I think their defense is going to put up a good fight here. Give me the Bears.
All right, you're taking the Bears. Billy, who did Mojo and Gordy take here? Mojo has the Vikings. Gordy has the Bears. All right, we finish up with Shear Bear. Bears at Vikings. Vikings minus six and a half points.
It kind of to Rollis's strategy of the interim coach. I feel like it's something that takes two games, you know, I feel like sometimes the first game is too quick. So because of that, I like what I saw with the bears Thanksgiving outside of the last, you know, possession. I like what Caleb showed and I think he just needs two weeks. So I'm going to go with the bears, you know, interim bounce.
Well, you know, I got to say that Thomas Brown has gone from what was he quarterbacks coach or passing game coordinator to to offensive coordinator and play caller to head coach in a matter of like four weeks, that's a lot on your plate. So it might take two weeks.
All right. Well, Mike, we look forward to a Southern Mike joining us next week. I like the idea of a different accent. Yeah. Kay Funk. We love you. We do.
I hope you guys do. Maybe Mojo will actually show up next week. Hold on. He only had one win. So,
Carl's got to get to court, K-Funk. Hurry it up.
Hey, ShareBear, would you like to promote anything on the way out?
I'm good, man. Like I said, I'm happy to be here, so I'm good to go.
All right. Enjoy the Heisman Trophy presentation. You're a baller, ShareBear. You really are. I want to be you when I grow up. Same here. Rawless, anything on the way out?
