What surprising events unfold in Jennifer's life?
When we went into the courtyard, I said, my God, what's wrong? Tell me what's wrong. And she revealed to me that Beulah, she wrote, Beulah and Monroe won't leave me alone. And Beulah and Monroe were my dad's parents, whom I have never met, by the way. And I remember looking up at the sky like, what happened? what the hell is going on here?
I said, Jamie, tell them just to go away and leave you alone. And Jamie said, I can't do that. You have to tell them to stop and to leave me alone. So that's what I did in the courtyard of this middle school. I said, Grandma and Grandpa, I'm flattered that you're trying to communicate with me, and I love you, but you've got to stop bothering Jamie. It's interfering with her life.
It was just like a burden. And I just wanted all this just to stop for her sake. It was too much. Maybe I was interfering in her life. So I was kind of happy that the relationship was short-lived. I told Jamie that she probably already knew. But I told her one day in class, I remember sitting outside with her. It was a...
January or February when I already let the administration know that we would be moving and they're trying to find a replacement for me. I remember Jamie and I were sitting on one of the benches outside. She was upset that morning and I hated to assume that she was upset because I was leaving because, again, I'm not that type of person to think that. Oh, like, she really cared. I don't know.
I'm just... But we went outside. I think I could tell that she was upset. So, you know, walking outside is always good to calm her down. She was crying, and I told her, I said, look, you know, we're leaving. We'll be moving in a couple months. And... I think we were both crying. I remember sitting on the bench crying, and I told her, don't worry.
I'll always be your friend, and we can always write each other, and I know that whoever is going to come to replace me is also going to love you, and talking about the times that we had with each other and, like, the funny times, but it was difficult. It was... I was crying too because, you know, she had a, and still does, had a profound effect upon my life.
And I consider her like a real angel to me. She just changed my life. It was hard to leave her. I remember somebody new came in. She was kind of shadowing me for a couple of days with Jamie and... Jamie was really sweet to her, too. I didn't mention anything to her about my experience. I think the last time I saw her... The classroom was nice enough to have a going-away party for me.
In that classroom, we had refreshments, and we were taking pictures. We were playing music. And just hugs goodbye. You know, her parents came. I shook the father's hand and told them how much I loved their daughter, and I appreciate the time that we had with each other. And I said, please, like, keep in touch. You know, I let them know that
She was my friend and I love her and that was pretty much it. It was hard, but you know, interestingly, Jamie used to come in my dreams all the time and tell me things. She was talking to me in her own voice, but she was always like present in my life. I think about it all the time because I remember she would say like teaching me things, like guiding me.
