Uncle Si Gets Emotional Over Phil’s Incredible Life & Transformation
Thu, 27 Mar 2025
Uncle Si gets emotional as he reflects on Phil Robertson’s incredible transformation from a reckless, selfish outlaw to a selfless man of God—something Si once thought was impossible. He marvels at Phil’s unshakable faith, even in the face of death, recalling how Phil faced a near plane crash with only the resurrection on his lips. Martin shares how Phil took him under his wing from the moment they met, showing the heart behind the man many had given up on. Meanwhile, John-David stirs up trouble during a church volleyball game, and Zach Dasher reveals that parts of "The Blind" had to be reshot because Phil’s past was too dark to show on screen. Chapter 1: What emotions does Uncle Si express about Phil's transformation?
Ready, Hunter? Not yet.
Now.
Oh, wow. Hunter, you didn't hit the camera. You didn't hit the timer.
Hunter doesn't have a microphone, so I'm a little sad. There we go. Welcome back to the Duck Call Room, ladies and gentlemen. Today we have... Guest on guest on guest. We'll just call this the cousins episode.
The distant, the only half Robert.
Or nephews. Size nephews. There we go.
Your nephews are here.
Your nephews are here. We have one. It's fun. We have a rabid LSU fan. And John Gimber. That's fair. Versus a rabid Florida Gator fan.
No Gators.

Chapter 2: How did Phil Robertson influence those around him?

I mean, I know Jace's opinion on it, obviously. He was named after the poor fellow. Yeah, but Jace has such a sunny disposition. But like, you know, you wake up and it's Christmas time and you're like, man, I can't wait to see. Was it ever Uncle Si?
He would come in, like we would see him about every two years. He would come in and then he would stay. This is back when Granny and Paul still lived at the river. And so he would be there and we would hunt with him and do those things. And he would, he would hunt with me, come hunt with Trey and I do at different places.
It was always like, that was something that I looked forward to every couple of years, but it was, he would give us enough material doing those two or three weeks. He was in town to last till the next two years till he made it back.
I'm going to say, a real-life Santa Claus.
So when he showed up, you were pumped.
Oh, yeah.
Look, I was one like Santa Claus because I'd come bring a gift. It would be all Army stuff. Yeah, that the U.S. government paid for. Elon Musk would cut that crap out, sir. Jace has still got that first little winter hat. The bomber hat. The bomber hat. Bomber hat. He loved that thing. He'd sleep with it.

Chapter 3: What funny stories arise during church sports games?
He just, he said, I got to get the heck out of there. Took off North Carolina. And then he'd come back every once in a while, make sure everybody still sees him. And then he goes again.
I don't know if enough time has passed for this joke, but you got to get away from the hurricanes here in Louisiana.
Oh, wow. Man, that sucker followed him up there, didn't he? They did. That was bad.
First hurricane to hit the Midwest mountains, you know, ever. And y'all were there.
If y'all are listening from there. Such a travesty. It's his fault. The Florida, Louisiana guy brought it with him.
I was actually in Angola prison. I had to do an event down there, and I stayed the night in Baton Rouge. I told you, I said, I think Black Mountain's going to get some rain tomorrow. I had no clue what was coming, but it was great.
I mean, it took roads and infrastructure and cities out.
20-something miles of water pipes. I mean, we didn't have water for eight weeks. I just dug a well, by the way.
It's unbelievable, the destruction that got put in that area.

Chapter 4: What lessons can be learned from family dynamics?
Well, it just showed me that that movie was meant to be done and that scene was supposed to be in there to reach a lot of people because I didn't get that done. The good Lord sent the dumbest Miler Drake on the planet that day and said, we're going to make this movie, son.
I have to say this. This is for the cameraman in future things. Hunter. Because, hey, I took 30 minutes before daylight talking to the cameraman. I'm going to set your camera up. All you do is turn it on and record. Uh-oh. Do not move this camera. Director of photography. Because, hey, I've got it where all the action's going to happen. Well, here comes 100 teal. Uh-oh. Coming in. They got them.
They got right, and we just mauled them. He tried to follow it. I come this close to knocking him out. That brought up something inside of you. I said, what did I tell you? He missed the whole thing? He missed the whole thing. I said, what did I tell you? I said, you would have had the best duck footage ever caught on camera if you'd have just done what I told you. Thank you. Record it.
Don't move it. Record it.
Can't happen, Si.
Can't happen. Can't happen. That's the biggest problem, okay? Because, hey, this is a man that's been doing this for, like, good grief, 70 years.
Oh, duck hunting. I'm talking about you. Yeah. Okay.
Okay. I was like, man, that's an old camera, man. I'm a lot younger than that. Hey, I started about when I was seven, for crying out loud. If I set you up, your camera... then pay attention and read my lips.
My favorite part was just sitting there thinking, what would Phil be saying right now with this guy on his tripod with that long of a limb? I mean, Phil would just be, he'd have had a nervous breakdown. Phil would have been, and there I am. I'm like, ah, we'll try it. Let's see what happens. You got to throw a lot at the wall at the movie, see what sticks. Yeah, we got it done, though.
