Ep 1085 | Jase Roasts ASMR-Style Videos & Godwin Gets Re-Baptized by Accident
Fri, 02 May 2025
The guys get a good laugh when Al accidentally “baptizes” Godwin before the episode even starts, and Godwin reflects on beginning his third career at age 62. Jase rants about whispery videos and shows no mercy to a grocery store theologian who challenged his Bible interpretation. The guys unpack free will vs. God’s will and trace the river of life from Eden to the hearts of believers today by connecting the books of John, Ezekiel and Revelation. In this episode: John 7, verses 6-24; Revelation 12, verse 11; Revelation 21, verses 22-23; Revelation 22, verses 1-2; Ezekiel 47, verses 1-8; Genesis 2, verse 10 “Unashamed” Episode 1085 is sponsored by: https://fieldofgreens.com — Get 20% off your first order to get started today! https://tomorrowclubs.org/unashamed — Join this disciple-making movement by sponsoring 30 Tomorrow Club kids for just $30 a month! https://myphdweightloss.com — Find out how Al is finally losing weight! Chapter 1: What funny incident happened before the episode?
Welcome back to Unashamed. I just baptized John Godwin. Well, you did. You did baptize.
He got re-baptized.
He's here on the podcast. Let me show you what happened. I said I wish that this had happened on camera. So I picked up my water bottle like this by the top, but the top wasn't secure. So as I went to set it down, it exploded this way, and I literally sprinkled you, John. You did. It was more of a splash.
I feel so clean.
You look like a new man. Godwin's back. So Godwin is here with us today, and John, we expected you on the first podcast. Yeah. What happened, man? Nobody said anything, but I thought John was supposed to be here. I was thinking, I thought, well, I guess he's retired. John, you're retired now. I retired December 31st.

Chapter 2: How does it feel to start a new career at 62?
So how does it feel as a retired man? Well, I've been fishing every day. Oh, really? Have you been catching any? That's a silly question. You don't go to not catch fish. I'm crappie guiding now. Oh, so you're not really retired. No, I just started a third career. 62 years old, I'm on my third career. Oh, really?
How long were you at the paper mill? 21 years. 21 years. How long were you at Duckamatter? 25 years. And now you're going to be crappie fishing the rest of the way.
I've been crappie fishing guide for three months.
Oh, really?
So are you using the crappie magnet? Do you use the crappie magnet? You better believe it.
I am the crappie magnet. Oh, there we go.
That's a biblical. That's bold. So, John, tell us why you're joining us on the second podcast instead of the first podcast.
Well, studios change along with life.
But, Godwin, you've been on our podcast before. But not here. It was down at the lair. I got a technical question. Did we use subtitles for Godwin in previous episodes? We used to on the show. No? No. Godwin, how did you feel when they put subtitles up on the show? And you were supposedly speaking the English language.

Chapter 3: What is the story behind Godwin's baptism?
Oh, yeah, everything grows. Do you guys like filming outdoors?
a duck commander or was that a good move for you i mean because that saves you a lot of time oh it's yeah do we like filming here yeah somebody built this nice studio i never figured out the fireplace because and then we have a fire behind me but it produces zero heat it's it's called ambiance yeah or or ambience if you like would you define that for me
Ambience?
1952.
That is awesome. Where did you find that? Unashamed listener. Because we look up a lot of words on the Google search.
You know what?
I actually think Missy bought this for me. Well, taste your stories. I don't know what's true anymore, Zach. He tells more stories.
Well, no, this story, I was misremembering, if that's a word. Stories change. Sounds like somebody from the Clinton administration. Missy... But Missy came in with this book, but she was like with both hands like, oh, and just wham, set it down. And I just assumed that someone had sent it because she checks the mail. I don't. But she found it. She said, I found some treasure for you.
Because I turned her into a treasure hunter with the treasure hunting show. Yeah. But the difference is her treasure costs money. That's right.

Chapter 4: How does free will relate to God's will?
Well, it's making me think of the spirit being poured out. It went from over there to in here, in the room as in the body. I mean, it became personal.
Zach, I'll tell you, like Jesus told the woman at the well, the worship won't be on that podcast studio or this podcast studio. It'll be anywhere the Holy Spirit of God is. That's where we'll be doing God's work.
That's where we're at. So this might change, too.
It could, but the Holy Spirit would still be there. Now, look, John, so recently on a podcast, very recently, in the last week or two, I told a story because on Easter Sunday, for the first time in 20-plus years, I was not preaching on Easter Sunday. Usually Mike and I go together the years he's been here. But it's been many, many years since I wasn't preaching on Easter Sunday.
So it felt very weird to me to be tuning in and watching our livestream But they didn't show it at the end of the live stream. They just said we got a baptism. They didn't say anything about it. So then I find out the next day through Kellett that the baptism that day, or one of the baptisms, was your son-in-law.
And as soon as I saw it in the text, instantly I had my eyes welled up with tears because I had been a part of Celia and Johanna's life since they found each other. And did their wedding and just, you know, obviously we're best friends. So it's been a long, long time. But it just touched me so deeply.
And I told the story on the podcast because when I first met Celio, to be perfectly honest, I just thought this isn't going to work out. I mean, just being a protector of Dojada, I'm like her uncle, like an honorary uncle. And I just didn't think he had it in him to be the man he is. And it just shows you do not – Do not say things aren't possible with God.
And I told you, I sent you a text and I said, your grace and your patience have shown through here.
So Al, you are kind of taking your health serious now. Are you going to the doctor on a regular basis?

Chapter 5: What insights do the guys share about the Bible?
Chapter 6: How do personal testimonies impact faith?
You have these Jewish leaders who are kind of putting all their eggs in the festivals that they're having about what God did in the past. for the nation of Israel, but the whole point of that was he was gonna bring a Messiah, and now he has, and he's right in their face, and they're like, nope.
And now his own brothers, you would think, now they did figure it out, because Acts 1, post-resurrection, they're in the group of people that are gathering up, it says, among the believers, praying with the disciples. So along with the women, you know, that's in Acts 1. We read that.
And part of this scenario that's happened in the text is Jesus knows the big picture of what he's doing. They obviously don't because they don't even believe he's the Messiah. But he knows now because for the first time in the last chapter in 6, we're seeing that people not only disagree with him, but they're starting to think we need to kill him. And he came to die, but it's not time yet.
So part of his reason is, as George W. Bush would say, is some strategery.
uh to to be able to wait and so i think that because you know he had planned on going to the feast anyway but he just wouldn't want to go right up there at the beginning of it and get started he's just you know and i don't to be honest with you i don't think he liked them telling him what to do you know when they didn't know what they were talking about that's the way i'd be if will and jace called me and started telling me what to do i'd go roberts and co wait a minute you know what do you mean you're trying to tell me what to do you know that's the you always got to be careful when you're giving god advice
Yeah.
Just think about that. Or I'm always, you know, because I listen to a lot of speakers, you know, I'm not interested in denomination, but if somebody's going public in a sermon, I'll listen to it. If the title, I'm like, well, let me see what they got to say about this.
But if it's filled with, you know, statements about what God can do and can't, or, you know, God has to do this, and then you're trying to prove the point, I'm always like, I don't think I would be as a human start to dictate policies. I think they have a phrase for that of putting God in a box, and I've done that before. It's like, well, this says this, so it can't be that God can't do this.
I mean, the only things that stand out that God can't do is lie or die.

Chapter 7: What are the challenges of interpreting scripture?
Well, the same thing happens, you know, with Jesus. If you live for God in your closet, in your bedroom, in the secret places of your mind, oh, it's coming out in a public way, and that's going to be a positive thing. It just can't, there's no way to hide it. So that's why he said, you know, you don't, You don't find a light and then put a bowl over it.
So now whatever he was doing in secret, he's now teaching publicly, to your point.
The Jews, verse 15, were amazed and asked, how did this man get such learning without having studied? Which is a question that I've been asked, and I took it as a compliment. I mean, to me, they'll say, well, you're smarter than you look. But I'm like, well, I have the Holy Spirit. I'm in Jesus.
Yeah, so the answer here would be, Basically, I wrote it. Yeah. I don't have to study it when I wrote it.
You don't have to study the book that I wrote.
How are you so smart? Jesus Tommy talked that. Mind up. Jesus, but he answered saying, my teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me. which doesn't sound controversial, but for that audience, it really is.
Yeah, big time.
If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. What a statement. Well, it really is.
That's actually really interesting because if you think about, it almost seems contradictory to what I just said, but it's not because Jesus is both God and man. And so in his humanity, he's answering, but he also claims to be God. And so this is a very interesting thing, this incarnated God in the one we know as Jesus. He says later on in John 17 that I am the Father that were one.
