Oh, yeah. And then all of a sudden the lump went away and I was like, should I just not tell them about it?
Well, it's lumpy in the mouth. Yeah.
They come and go. i was i would uh i would get this is how neurotic i am i looked i longed for the days of johnny carson's cigarette box yeah where someone would fill up a cigarette yeah yeah yeah i would get uh what like sea salt holders you know like the with the and i dumped my zins in there so i have fancy oh right and i never knew what flavor i was getting

The death of Lynn, you know, it was... You can't even explain it. Especially because it happened so quickly and it was out of nowhere. And the loss and just the... It was a very specific... kind of thing because it was COVID, you know, it was three months into COVID, you know, we hadn't publicly been together that long.
She had just sort of, you know, finalized her divorce and, uh, and kind of moved her stuff down here. And, uh, and then, you know, COVID hit. And so we were kind of, you know, together kind of riding that out for the first few months. And, and like, and then she, you know, she got sick and, you know, during that time it was like, um, it was hard to go to the doctor.

Chapter 3: What happened to Marc Maron's girlfriend?
But it stayed open. Yeah. That's why sometimes it was very hard to sit for those photographs because they had neck braces and stuff because the lens had to stay open for so long.
Wow.
So that's now a popular thing. People take selfies with their... I don't know how popular it is, but I got a few emails from people that did it. I bet that would be... I mean, once you get past the idea, like once you realize that death is inevitable and everybody deals with it and it's a natural thing, it's just a matter of if that's how you want to remember somebody.
You'd think you'd rather just do the pictures that you have of them having fun as opposed to... I mean, that's also why Jews close the casket. You know, Jews, you know, they put you in a pine box and there's no viewing.
Yeah.
You know, and because, you know, that you should remember people when they're alive. I remember my buddy in high school, he died, you know, after high school and we all come back. It was kind of tragic. And I just remember going to this funeral and it was just an open casket. And I went up there and looked at him and I was like, no, I'm never going to get that out of my head.
Yeah.
And I'm never going to get seeing Lynn out of my head either. But I feel like there is closure there if you want it. I mean, yeah, they're dead. They're dead. They're dead, man. And it was so wild, dude, because she was so... It took a long time for me to surrender to my love for her.
You guys did, she directed the Sword movie.

Chapter 4: How does Marc Maron navigate grief and loss?
and and then like after that his career was kind of up and down he ended up doing a sitcom in his 50s which was a huge hit and everybody knew him for this sitcom he made all the money he could make at the sitcom but he considered himself a serious actor but this he sold out in his 50s so that's the backstory so at the beginning of this movie this character who was me uh gets diagnosed with stage four you know colon cancer
And he becomes obsessed with the need to be in the in-memoriam montage at the Oscars. Like it's the only thing that'll give his wife meaning, right? So he forgoes chemo so he can make the cut. And so his manager is played by Michael McKean says, well, I don't know if we can get you in that. You'll definitely be in the Emmy one. And I'm like, who the fuck wants to be in the Emmys?
No kid dreams of being in the Emmy montage. So I want to be in the Oscar montage, but he doesn't have the resume for it. And so it's just this movie of him trying to figure out an angle of how to get into the In Memoria montage because he's got this cancer. It's funny, dude. And there's funny people in it. Lily Gladstone plays my therapist. Justin Long plays this influencer.
He's fucking hilarious.
Yeah. That guy. Justin Long's really talented. He's very funny. His acting to me seems effortless.
He's funny, though. I couldn't believe we had some big laughs. And then Paul or Alan Ruck. Turns out the guy who's producing the Oscars that year is the same guy whose wife I took, that actress. So I got to meet with him and try to be humbled. And we have this lunch scene where I tell him I have cancer and he just starts laughing. He's like, this is the best day of my life.
But one of the angles of me trying to get into the montage is that Vicki Page, the actress who I was married to way back in the day, went on to do 70 movies. She won three Oscars. And right when I'm about to, it looks like I might get in the montage, it's announced that she has cancer as well. And I'm like, well, fuck. You know, she's going to bump me out, right? So...
So I got to go meet with her. We don't have a relationship. Obviously I have some resentment, but she's a big star. And I was married to her like 20, 25 years ago or whatever. And it's Sharon Stone. Sharon signed on to do this one scene because she likes me and it's fucking Sharon Stone. And look, dude, I'm not that confident in general, but certainly not as an actor.
So now I'm playing an actor who is a good actor. And it was a little bit much, you know, to try to believe I could do that. But like I locked in and I just interviewed Pacino and I took all the notes from all the actors I've interviewed and I've done some acting, but I really kind of did the thing, you know. But here I am with Sharon Stone, right?

And you're just like, yeah, you know, I've had imaginary drama with people. All the time. And I've built it up in my head so big, so big, that I'm like... I'm like, oh my God. And then one time I had drama with a person and I sat with it forever. And then when that person, I reconciled, that person was like, just so you know, I thought about this a lot. And I was like, thank you so much.
I go, thank you to match my energy because it bothered me so much. And he's like, it bothered me so much. I was like, oh fuck.
That was the greatest feeling. Yeah. Well, that was kind of what was happening with that thing between me and you. I'm like, oh my God. I heard Bert's viewing and it was like, it just wasn't my intention.
But it was happening to me with so many people at the time. It's like, because I was like, I was doing well. And I thought, I didn't realize what I'd done. What I did was I had created this summer festival. This is what, from what I can gather. I created this summer festival and I brought my friends. And I was like, you know, and other people too. Like people I wanted to meet, like Bruce Bruce.
And like I brought, you know, I brought Bruce Bruce. I was like, I want to watch Bruce Bruce do stand-up. I had him on my show on Marin. He's fucking awesome. He's great. He's so fucking fun. And then Jelly Roll came out. And I made these friends. But what I didn't realize is I became Comedy Central. I became the man who was not giving opportunities to comics.
Oh, right, right.
Why didn't you bring Neon? Exactly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so I alienated myself from a lot of people who then looked at my success. And I'm like, fuck him.
That's just comic shit.
But I was getting that a few different times. And then when that clip hit me, and Joe's like, I thought you were boys with Maren. And I was like, motherfucker. And I go, even Mark? Like, I didn't think, Mark, I couldn't catch it straight from Mark. And then the man just sat with me. You know what's so funny, Mark? It was totally Andy Chappelle.
