Chapter 1: How did Ramona Krotine go missing?

8.331 - 43.056 Greg Wolcheski

I think it was on a Thursday. My wife answered the phone, hey, we've got an emergency, Ramona's missing. Just searching for my sister's car. Bad things were going through my mind. I start heading towards the RTA lot. Then out of the corner of my eye, there looks like a Camry. It was my sister's car. Your adrenaline's going. You don't really know what you're doing. I dialed 911. No.

43.076 - 48.22 Roger Wolcheski

What if my sister's in the trunk of this car?

0

49.401 - 51.803 Greg Wolcheski

I ran back to the truck, and I got a pipe wrench.

0

53.745 - 55.807 Roger Wolcheski

I can't break the window.

0

58.797 - 62.319 Greg Wolcheski

I reached into the trunk latch, just pulled up on that.

62.339 - 71.943 Roger Wolcheski

It's been, what, two and a half years? I miss her a lot. Still miss her.

86.226 - 95.733 Detective

The more we got to know Ramona Croteen's background, it made us more determined to find out who did this. Detective Timothy Robinson, case investigator for the Ramona Croteen death.

100.076 - 107.702 Prosecutor

Jeffrey Croteen is kind of like your typical suburban male. We firmly believe that he killed his wife.

108.002 - 118.297 Detective

This was the home of Ramona Croteen and Jeffrey Croteen. And this is the house where we believe Ramona Croteen was killed.

Chapter 2: What was the initial police theory on the murder?

662.935 - 672.669 Theresa

He's different. He's his own little character.

0

706.074 - 714.422 Susan Spencer

From the moment Ramona Croteen was murdered, friends and family all told police the same thing. I always thought he was an odd duck.

0

714.862 - 715.663 Denise Tarosky

He's a flat line.

716.544 - 719.106 Susan Spencer

Jeff Croteen is, well, different.

721.304 - 724.367 Jeffrey Croteen

Being different, I hope that never becomes a crime.

724.647 - 742.483 Susan Spencer

A crime? Perhaps not. But his behavior certainly raised questions. Why weren't you out looking for your wife? Your family was out searching for her. While the Wolcheskis were out looking for Mona, Jeff was keeping a routine appointment with his accountant.

743.504 - 746.407 Jeffrey Croteen

What could I do? I knew people were out looking for her.

Chapter 3: What evidence linked Jeffrey Krotine to the murder?

866.366 - 870.41 Detective

We started hearing the tidbits. We heard about the headboard, and I was like, wow, that's weird.

0

874.073 - 888.802 Susan Spencer

What they heard was a jaw-dropping story that Croteen had taken a saw to the couple's wooden headboard. and then burned it piece by piece in the downstairs fireplace. You were in the house when he did this?

0

889.143 - 894.645 Jennifer Croteen

Yeah, I smelled it. He's burning something, and then I was like, it must be the headboard, because I heard something chopping up there.

0

896.786 - 898.747 Susan Spencer

But why would anyone do that?

0

898.987 - 905.731 Jeffrey Croteen

There was nobody in this world that was going to make love anywhere near that headboard.

906.711 - 909.272 Susan Spencer

You're telling me that's why you burned the headboard in the fireplace?

909.292 - 914.623 Detective

That's it. Basically, he refused to cooperate with the police. He never even asked us about his wife.

914.943 - 921.468 Susan Spencer

The police were eager to talk to Jeff, but now, with a lawyer in tow, he no longer was talking to them.

921.829 - 923.89 Detective

Never called us to see how the investigation's going.

Chapter 4: Why did Jeffrey Krotine become a suspect?

1807.369 - 1808.369 Prosecutor

Would you tell us about that?

0

1819.142 - 1822.743 Mel Twining

Excuse me. That was somebody crying for help.

0

1823.364 - 1826.685 Prosecutor

Do you recall what you heard on the voicemail message?

0

1827.345 - 1830.826 Mel Twining

It was, help, help, help me.

0

1831.566 - 1837.769 Prosecutor

And how did you react to listening to this voicemail? I was shocked. You were shocked? Shocked. Okay.

1838.729 - 1841.19 Susan Spencer

Shocked, too, is Detective Tim Robinson.

1841.581 - 1843.022 Detective

This is unbelievable. Where'd this come from?

1843.262 - 1847.966 Susan Spencer

Who says neither Ziegler nor Twining ever mentioned the call to police.

1848.287 - 1858.495 Detective

Well, Mel Twining then should have said something because he never said nothing. Sue Ziegler's never said nothing. We at Brook Park never heard of that call. Was that Ramona Croteen? No, I believe Ramona Croteen was already dead at that time.
