Chapter 1: What is the focus of the Pop Apologists Profile?

0.109 - 26.915 Lauren

It's so powerful and it's just clear she's done so much work on herself. You can go through so much in life and you can heal. You can get better. You can have the worst things happen to you and you can grow. Trigger warning, we are going to be discussing sexual violence and rape and darker subject matter. So if any of that is not suitable for you, skip this episode.

Well, well, well, we are so excited today because we are discussing the legend, the woman herself, Demi Moore. I think on this podcast, we haven't really done, you know, single person deep dives. I don't know. Have we? I know we've done couples. No, we tend to focus on great American romances, great international romances. We are a global podcast with many global elites listening.

50.21 - 69.826 Lauren

But no, we tend to focus on relationships. And today we're starting a very new thing. It feels right. And it feels overdue, frankly, that this woman, you know, gets a moment. You guys, welcome to the first Pop Apologist Profile. We did actually do a whole thing about why Anne Hathaway, people find her to be annoying, but I don't think that really counts as a pop-up. Yeah, I don't know.

69.846 - 91.366 Lauren

Yeah, it doesn't count. It doesn't count. So without further ado, we are so excited because right now, Demi Moore, she is the moment. She is. She is getting so much buzz and hype and her road to this like glorious moment in the sun, it has not been a smooth glide path. Well, also everyone, people listening are going to be like, Demi Moore has always been a huge star.

91.426 - 111.879 Lauren

Like these girls are just like so out of their depth. We realize that. But I think that she's finally getting like awards for her talent. And she's always been an A-lister. I've always known who she was. But yeah, I didn't realize that she maybe wasn't getting the accolades that she deserved until right now, maybe. No. I think we always knew she was a 90s icon.

112.46 - 117.043 Lauren

But like you said, professionally, she was not as esteemed as she really should have been.

117.083 - 117.343 Host

Yeah.

117.763 - 136.541 Lauren

And so it's really fun to see her truly having this moment. But let's go back to the very beginning, everyone. So I read her book recently and I told you that it was like so good. I just was kind of looking for a new book and I just stumbled upon it, Love a Celebrity Memoir. Anyway, it totally gripped me. Her life is so fascinating, her early life especially. She's just had...

136.901 - 160.587 Lauren

very hard upbringing and you know she struggled with things as an adult and I think she just has a really rich story so anyway we're happy that she's having this moment in culture and we're so excited to tell everyone her story yeah you suggested to listen to her audiobook and it is an absolutely arresting gorgeous six hours I mean you never listen to any or you never take me up on any of my book recommendations and this one made me want to right my wrongs okay so everyone we're going to get into all things Demi Moore

Chapter 2: What were Demi Moore's childhood struggles?

3435.017 - 3453.005 Lauren

But... Yeah, I think with the alcoholism for sure. She should have been like, well, come talk to me in 15 years. Right. But I think then getting into them trying to have a baby together, it's just really sad and complicated. Yeah. And it makes sense that she wants to give him a child. Yeah.

0

3453.246 - 3470.321 Lauren

So she goes on because I think this like to set the stage for the place that they're in in their relationship. She says, I put him first. So when he expressed his fantasy of bringing a third person into our bed, I didn't say no. I wanted to show him how great and fun I could be. There were two different people we opened our relationship to and they didn't have bad intentions.

0

3470.361 - 3489.295 Lauren

They were good people, but it was still a mistake. End quote. Another thing I want to just like touch on here. She really talks about how she wanted to show him how great and fun she could be with the drinking at the dinner in Mexico and then here. And it was like, well, it's not just your relationship. It's just about showing your partner how fun you are. Right. For sure.

0

3489.316 - 3509.09 Lauren

You know, there should by this point, there should be more, I don't know, depth to that or he should have. Yeah, I don't know. I think that that is coming at it from a much more elevated psychological place. I think that's coming at it with a very evolved point of view. Whereas I think a lot of women in relationships are primarily focused on seeking approval and validation.

3509.391 - 3521.64 Lauren

And so they don't have the wherewithal to say, well, you may want this, but that's not actually appropriate for us. And this is the reason why they're not willing to... She might have just not been up for risking losing him. Totally. And I think...

3522.26 - 3536.991 Lauren

Once again, if you are in a relationship where there's that imbalance in ages, then there is a little bit of a power dynamic where it's like this person is young and so therefore they're like automatically fun and great. And I need to like make sure that I'm pulling my end of the fun weight. Exactly. Yeah. No, exactly. That's so true. Okay.

3537.011 - 3545.637 Lauren

So this is a clip of her talking to Ellen about why she opened up her marriage to threesomes. I didn't realize Ellen got into those kind of topics. I thought Ellen was a little more. Ellen got into it all. Wow.

3546.298 - 3570.924 Host

It was a mis... guided sense of not really wanting to look maybe at the harder question or maybe the what was really missing or in my case because I really felt like I had created an addiction to him that I was a you know that my codependency in a way I'd never had before I'd never had that kind of attachment and

3571.745 - 3591.2 Lauren

The week before Ashton and Demi's 6th anniversary in September 2011, Ashton went to Danny Masterson's bachelor party. When he got back, Demi said she felt like something was off, but Ashton didn't say anything. Instead, he took her back to the piece of land he took her to on their first date, the piece of land he bought with plans to build their dream house.
