Chapter 1: What is 'On the Bus with Troy Vollhoffer' about?
I'm Troy Wolhoffer, the founder and executive producer of Country Thunder Music Festivals, and I'm giving you an all-access pass to my behind-the-scenes chats with artists, industry insiders, and you, the fans, and everything you love about the festival experience and more. Join me to hear today's hottest and up-and-coming music artists as they share their stories.
Chapter 2: What musical influences shaped the guests?
I mean, I grew up on, like, older country. If I was in a little car with my mom, it'd be worship music or, you know, 90s country, old country. And if I was with my dad, it was either old rock, Eminem, and 50 Cent, and rap and hip-hop.
Chapter 3: How did artists start their music careers?
We wanted to be able to make a living playing music, because that's always been our bottom line. So we did Broadway for about three years, nudie, honky-tonk, two years at Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row. And I would say Whiskey Row was the main bar we played at.
Chapter 4: What challenges do artists face in the music industry?
You'll hear about the challenges and the triumphs they've faced. You got to remember, Toby was 29 years old when he was getting his record deal. And he said, if I don't have it by the time I'm 30, then I'm standing in the oil fields.
Chapter 5: What role does a small town background play in music success?
As a kid from a small town, I'd never really been outside of my town and into the big city, so it was scary. The Bluebird was right there by me, and it felt safe. So I would go over there and hang out and really just try to learn the craft.
Chapter 6: Who are the major inspirations for today's artists?
The inspirations of life experiences behind their songs and their shows, who would you say influenced you? It was Garth Brooks. Yeah.
Yeah, I love the intensity. He's got you in the palm of his hand, but his band members, even the guitar player, the fiddle player, they're captivating. They've got you.
so a lot of groups and a lot of female voices strong female voices were big influences for us and interviews that feel like you're backstage just shooting the breeze over a couple of beers yeah we we stayed up a little too late last night i got me a little cocktail now so we're doing a lot better people shooting fire up you know dancers animals thrones everything we're spraying champagne all over everybody like a mini mardi gras parade into the stage and then we start the show
Plus, you'll hear insights from the music industry experts.
You have to know the person and the personalities to go, no, that doesn't work, and here's the reason why. You've got to make the artist believe that you're the key to their success, and they cannot function without you. And hear about the grit, the dedication it takes to make it big.
Tim has always been involved in every aspect of his career and takes responsibility for it, as opposed to just, well, you're going to go play this show tonight and that's it.
In those loud bars when people are sitting there smoking and drinking and trying to wheel their girlfriend, not listening, you have to earn their interest and listenership, right? That's a trait that can only be learned by playing live and being in them in amongst the moment, right? Tune in to Get Your Fix between festivals and ride shotgun on the bus with us.
Do we have to quit drinking? No.
Listen to On the Bus with Troy Volhoffer wherever you get your podcasts.
