Chapter 1: What was revealed in the PlayStation State of Play?
We just live reacted to the PlayStation State of Play for February 2025, and now we're going to break it all down because this is Kind of Funny Games Daily. What's up and welcome back to Kinda Funny Games Daily for February 11th, 2025. Of course, I am your host, Tim Geddes. That's not right. It's February 12th, everybody. I'm working off an old doc here. You know what I'm talking about.
I'm Tim Geddes. I'm joined by Blessing Adeoye Jr. Good day, Tim. Snowbike Mike. What up, Tim? And Andy Cortez. Hello. Our friend loses games daily. Yeah, you know, we're just trying to find the best place to fit things out. Sony kind of surprise announced a state of play yesterday, so we had to shuffle the schedule around quite a bit.
But here we are now on kind of funny games daily where each and every weekday we get together to talk about all the video game news that you need to know. We do it live on YouTube and Twitch, but you can, of course, watch later. You could also watch or listen on podcast platforms, depending on what it is, whether it's Spotify or Apple and all of that stuff.
If you wanted to get the Kind of Funny membership to support us even more, that'd be super, super cool of you. And also, it would get you the show's ad-free. You could watch live as we record them, and you get a daily exclusive. Greg Way. Today, what was the Greg Way, Bless?
Well, we'll see if there's no technical difficulties. The Greg way will be a magic match between me and the one and only still Mike Mike. Yeah.
So we're prepping for our trip to Chicago for magic con. So we've been playing a lot of magic together. Bless built me a deck last week on stream. And so we've been testing that deck out in every single game. We finish up and we kind of have a post game of like, how'd that go? What did, what were the misses? What were the hits? So yeah, we gave that to you on the today's Greg way.
And of course we'll see you on Chicago next weekend.
Of course, shout out to our Patreon producers, Delaney Twine and Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster and Karen Lindner. We appreciate all of you so very much. Today we're brought to you by Rocket Money, Shady Raisin, BetterHelp, but we'll tell you all about that later. Let's start with what is and forever will be the Roper Report.
Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh

Chapter 2: Which games stood out during the State of Play?
Some of those third-party games that came out of nowhere, like Tides of Annihilation, games like that I feel like do a great job of wowing us, making us go, what the fuck is this, locking in, and then introducing us to a world of game that we haven't seen before. I think ending with Seros was...
unexpected for i think how we usually perceive the earlier in the year state of plays i wasn't really expecting a place big playstation uh first party thing and so i think that showing up it looking so cool fucking awesome uh so yeah i'm i'm i'm pleasantly surprised by this one
Well said, Bless. I'm right there with Bless. It was a great PlayStation State of Play. They didn't have me in the first half. I was kind of yawning, going, ooh, a lot of these titles aren't for me. But that second half, they really picked it up. They showed a lot of cool, new, interesting titles that wasn't on my radar that now are on my radar. And man, 2025 and beyond, we are gaming.
Andy Cortez.
I would give this like a nine. This is an amazing for me. If we're doing review scores, I... Because there was so many things that I wasn't expecting to see. And, you know, getting Liza P DLC in addition to all of these awesome looking action games. And I'm sure to some people who don't give a shit about these games, it just becomes noise.
But to me, I'm like, man, all of these look awesome and I want to play all of these. And then ending with you know, this amazing reveal of Rahul Kohli in Seros, this new game from Housemarque. And we've always been wondering, we've heard their interviews, we've seen Housemarque say, we're not working on a Returnal 2. And it's like, ah, but why not? That game was really, really awesome.
And to see that we're getting something just extremely similar from what we saw on that little tiny glimpse we kind of, we got to assume it's going to look and feel a lot like it, especially with that sort of spiral of projectile, you know, things you got to avoid from these bosses or whatever. I just cannot be more jazzed about this state of play.
And especially since state of plays can have a tendency to kind of, you know, let you down every now and then. But I was blown away by this. LizaP DLC, amazing video games all around.
I'm kind of right there. It's like I'm struggling to realize or just to think.

Chapter 3: What are the details about Lost Soul Aside?
And it's like, why didn't they talk about this or why didn't they talk about that? They kind of did here, like Split Fiction and all that stuff. Even though we know about them, this is a great marketing opportunity to showcase it alongside other games. And overall, I feel like this is not just a step in the right direction for State of Play. I think this is like a dash in the right direction.
So good for you. Yeah, this feels like I think they've... found their flow for what State of Play is and what I think it should be. Because I think, for me, there were quite a few years there where I was so down on State of Plays because it felt like, one after the other, it felt like we were showing up to just be let down by announcements that I think just didn't do much for the audience.
I think now, when I look at the last few, I don't watch the State of Play and go, this is one of the greatest presentations ever, but I think I've resolved on the fact that State of Play isn't... They're not meant to be the greatest showcases ever, right? Like, I...
don't know and maybe i don't mean to go back and forth on this right of like will we get back to the late 20 uh 2010s playstation of getting those e3 showcases that were cinematic and you get ghost of tsushima followed by horizon followed by these things right i think we do get back to that that's going to be a summer playstation showcase ordeal state of plays i don't think are that yet and nor are they meant to be that in a way where i i look at the chat and a lot of chats like
very upset or very let down by the state of play. And I come at this from a place of not necessarily knowing how to reckon that with, I guess, our perception of it. Because I mentioned to you on KFGD and before this of like, yeah, I'm coming at this with low expectations. And I think that's just because I know what state of plays are meant to be.
And even for those low expectations, I come out of this and if I'm giving a score, I'm giving an 8 out of 10, I think this is great. But I also... I don't know. I'm in a place where it's hard for me to be mad about something that feels like it's doing exactly what it's meant to do. This is the exact kind of show that State of Play wants to be.
And I think bigger than that for me, why I'm as high as I am, is that it didn't have a lot of things that I expected. And instead, had a lot of things that I didn't. And that's fun. It's like, this didn't have Forza. This didn't have Indiana Jones. This didn't have Ghosts even, which I'm surprised by. Like,
There's still going to be announcements coming soon that fill this year out even more for PlayStation having a very solid lineup. And not just PlayStation. A lot of these games are coming to PC as well. I'm sure a ton of them are also coming to Xbox. This is just a good year for games, man.
If you go by the numbers and told me before I saw this, there's going to be at least... Over six to seven video games that look awesome as shit, and one really mind-blowing first-party reveal. Like, first day to play? Fuck, I'll take that all day, dog. It sounds great, and I really enjoyed this. I'm really happy about this one.

Chapter 4: What can we expect from Metal Gear Solid Delta?
Then we got like a dragon pirate Yakuza in Hawaii getting a demo this week. And then Intrabahn's coming to Dave the Diver in April. Cool.
That game has had some legs when you think about it. That game is still alive. Getting updates and rolling. Do I know someone in my life that's still playing Day of the Diver? Absolutely not. But there's someone out there that's still continuing on and getting excited.
Also, Joey just slacked us letting us know that Alana just raided us. So shout out to you, Alana. Thank you so much for raiding us. And also, please tell Earl congratulations. That's so freaking sick. We'll get to that later, though. Next up, we have Splitgate 2. The alpha's coming.
If you're worried. I will say, hold on, real quick, with Lost World aside, that's where it starts ramping up in, oh, banger, banger, banger, non-stop, non-stop, where the first several games before that was like... I mean, see, I thought that was Shinobi. Shinobi, like, that was the second game.
Okay, but Shinobi looked cool, and at the end of it, at the end of a normal state of play, I would have been, Shinobi was probably the coolest thing we saw there. You know, for these Force 4 games, we have Sonic, we have Monster Hunter. I'm like, this is kind of what I expect from these showcases.
What are you trying to say about Sonic?
Jeff Keighley wasn't excited enough about Sonic the Hedgehog. It's been one of my favorite things that Blessing does every time whenever Keighley just like...
it's your showcase get excited but with lost soul aside that's where you know i'm like okay this game looks awesome and from here on out it was like 95 of the things that were shown are things that i really want to play see i didn't think it picked up until midnight walk we still have a while until i think we hit that halfway point of let's turn this on now for me
Are you serious, Mike?

Chapter 5: How is the new Onimusha game shaping up?
We know their kind of process for monetization and how are they going to make millions and millions of dollars off of this. I think it looks goofy as hell. It looks cheesy, and it kind of fits.
Yeah. I mean, again, having Paul Heyman introduce it, like, turning the island of relevancy into a literal island is... It's inspired, y'all.
It's genius. That's all I can say.
It's genius. Next up, we had Borderlands 4. We got a lot of information on this.
We get a dedicated state of play coming up that will be all about Borderlands.
And we got the release date, September 23rd, 2025. Once again, the year's really starting to fill out here. This is going to be a major release. Andy, I would say hi talking about this. Do you want to continue that?
I'm just always a sucker for Borderlands games. I think they're the ones that sort of started the whole... My version of what looter shooters are and playing with friends online and just... It's junk food. It is empty calories. Maybe you can pay attention to the story, maybe you don't, but it's just pure gunplay fun. And now that I'm on...
Now that I'm on keyboard mouse, I have a much larger love for first-person shooters, and that just sort of lends itself to me enjoying these experiences more. It's going to be goofy.
I do have a lot of faith this time around with the writing team involved, and, you know, especially with how some of the writers on the team have been talking about the past experiences and being like, no, like, you know, Get that humor out of here. We're kind of bringing a new flavor with not all the sort of cheesy tone that they were going for. I'm sure we'll still see a bit of that.

Chapter 6: What is the significance of the Midnight Walk release date?
Like it has more than just like, Oh, it's stop motion. It's like, there's like a style on top of that, that I think is just incredibly rad.
Yeah. It's stop motion with just really good art direction. You know, very reminiscent of that character we just saw earlier. Very reminiscent from one of the dudes from Nightmare Before Christmas. Huh? The mayor. Yeah, the mayor, yeah. So, yeah, I think that not only art direction-wise, but just tech-wise, this looks really fantastic. Yeah.
Having this dude crawling through this dark corridor looks awesome. And the blinking aspect. Yeah. How are they going to change that to PlayStation? I'm assuming, you know, you hit the touchpad or...
Yeah, it's super cool. And there was one shot earlier where there's fire and then snow. I'm very interested in the gimmicks of it all because it looks like it's going to be very creative and cool. Yeah, right there. It's sick. But yeah, you guys have anything else to say about Midnight Walk before we move on? Looks really cool. May 8th. Very close. Super exciting. Yeah, yeah.

Chapter 7: What surprises did Konami bring to the showcase?
You gotta play it, man. There's like a weird shark man that just appeared there. I think we're gonna get swallowed up, guys.
Oh, we're definitely getting swallowed by the whale, man. We're getting swallowed by the whale. We're getting swallowed up. We're getting gobbled up. But to see the addition of this ranged weapon is nearly different. That's something brand new to kind of add to add some more spice to your gameplay.
But I'm just super stoked to get back into that weapon system, into perfect parry to break more weapons. My favorite system of 2023. Then next up, we got Dreams of Another. I've never been so teased in my life.
That was unbelievable.
And I still don't know what this is. You shoot stuff to create stuff. Yeah, it was an interesting idea here. Definitely a wild-looking art style and just art direction on this. I have the press release if you'd like to read it.
Kyoto-based Creative Studio Q Games has officially revealed Dreams of Another, the latest title by multimedia artist Bayan, the director of Pixel Junk Eden. The game was announced during PlayStation State of Play, blah, blah, blah. The game is built around the philosophical theme of no creation without destruction.
Rather than destroying objects by shooting, as in traditional shooting games, here are your shots materializing create the world. This unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of genre and invites players into a whole new dimension. Dreams of Another is scheduled to launch on PS5 and PSVR 2 in 2025.
Key features, yeah, shooting, creates, not destroys, dreamlike world, mysterious characters, interact with intriguing personalities such as the man in pajamas and the wandering soldier. Of course. You've always wanted to interact with those guys. Experimental soundtrack, an emotionally stirring soundtrack crafted by Bion himself, and enhanced for PS5 Pro.
I love that. I mean, dude, that's... I got emotional of you reading that.

Chapter 8: What are the expectations for Hell is Us?
Chris Sagan says, I'm excited enough for all of California.
I know Chris Sagan. I was going to get to like, I know Chris Sagan's pumped for this.
He loves Days Gone. He loves it. I know he's excited. A lot of people do. He's a goner.
He's a god. I didn't know that. God. Add another O. I was about to say that god of Gouda, I don't know. Anyways, speaking of that, Stellar Blade DLC is coming.
Oh, how dare you? No, we gotta stop this with Stellar Blade. We're taking Stellar Blade with us into 2025. We're leaving behind Black Myth Wukong in 2024. Wow, wow, wow.
Okay, what are you upset about?
Yeah.
He was just tired of, like, the director of a black movie being like, you know.
No, he's talking about, like, because he implied that the gamers out here that are playing Stellar Blade are gooners.
