Chapter 1: What happens when Talena goes missing?
This is an iHeart Podcast. It's April 2020. A woman announces on Facebook that she has COVID and won't be seeking medical attention.
I didn't want to be talked out of this plan.
Then she disappears. Uh, anyone else think this is strange? I just had to know. How did this happen?

I'm Andrea Gunning, host of the podcast Betrayal. Police Lieutenant Joel Kern used his badge to fool everyone. Most of all, his wife, Caroline. He texted, I've ruined our lives. You're going to want to divorce me. How far would he go to cover up what he'd done?
The fact that you lied is absolutely horrific. And quite frankly, I question how many other women are out there that may bring forward allegations in the future.

I've seen a lot of stuff over 30 years, you know, some very despicable crime and things that are kind of tough to wrap your head around. And this ranks right up there in the pantheon of Rhode Island fraudsters.
I've always been told I'm a really good listener, right? And I maximized that while I was lying.

Chapter 2: How does Talena's family respond to her disappearance?
And then, late one night while sitting on the couch, she gets a call from Marty.
He was sitting outside Talena's house and he was drunk and high and you could always tell when he was drunk. He was slurry and just, I wondered how he had driven there, right? I said, what are you doing? And he said, I've got my AR and if she comes outside. And I was like, get home. Like, you can't, you can't kill somebody. Like, that's... He goes, well, she killed my Talena wife.
And I said, if you know that, let's get the sheriffs. Like, let's do this. You can't just kill somebody. Like, that's not... I know you're mad, but let's get her in trouble, right? Let's call the police. Let's get the sheriffs out there. If you have something... He goes, I know Talena's dead.
It's the early days of COVID, April 2020. A woman in a small town in Oklahoma makes a strange post to Facebook and then disappears.
I'm on day nine of this virus and I am pretty sure it has reached my lungs. I made the decision at the onset that if it got bad enough, I would not go to the hospital.
Pretty quickly, a ragtag group of women on the internet start their own investigation.
It felt like I was living out one of my fantasy dreams of being a detective.
But the world they uncover is beyond their wildest imagination.

Chapter 3: What secrets does Talena's sister uncover?
No.
Are you currently sitting down?
Yes.
In your entire life, have you even told one lie to someone who trusted you? They finish up. By this point, Corey's been in the interview room for over three hours.
Miller reads through the results, and he tells Corey they need to talk about what the machine found.
Yeah, so I've looked at it. We've had three clean charts there at the end, but you were having problems on two of the questions. Which two? Did you harm Talena, and do you know for sure who harmed Talena? Those were two you had significant reactions to.
Yeah, so... I wonder if... I don't know, if... You know, there are just so many scenarios that go through your mind. I try and not think about things when I'm answering questions. I don't know what else to say.
I don't know. The instrument here is, you know, it... It doesn't like you and it doesn't dislike you. It just reads your body and tells me you were deceptive on those two questions.
When Corey doesn't offer any explanations, Miller gives her some hypothetical stories. Maybe there was an argument. An accident? Corey says no. Maybe Talena wanted to end her life and someone helped her. And maybe it wasn't even Corey.
