Chapter 1: What is the murder case of Aniah Blanchard about?

So with all of that out of the way, let's get into the case. Today, we are going to be discussing the solved murder of Aniyah Blanchard. Aniyah Blanchard was born June 22nd, 2000 in Homewood, Alabama to her parents, Angela Harris and Elijah Blanchard.

I'm not exactly sure whether her parents were married at the time and I'm not exactly sure when, but her mother got married to a man named Walt Harris who is a heavyweight UFC fighter. Her father also got remarried to a woman named Yeshiba. Anaya has a couple of younger step siblings. I think two as far as I saw, and an older brother named Elijah who was only 17 months older than her.

Her parents described Aniyah and Elijah's relationship as being as inseparable as twins. They were so close growing up and Elijah saw himself sort of as her protector. Aniyah was described as being an impactful leader, a role model, generous, and very hardworking. She was kind to everyone around her and went out of her way to help others when they were down.

She was a natural nurturer just like her mother who worked as a registered nurse. As she grew older, she just naturally took on the responsibility of helping take care of her younger step siblings, cleaning up after them and making sure that they brushed their teeth before school.

Her stepfather Walt said that she was his number one fan and she always gave him a reason to keep going and always pushed him to do better even when he wanted to give up. when she was in high school, she played for the softball team and her coach said that she had no problem taking the lead and was the type of student that you'd wish to have on your team forever.

when she was 16 years old, she got her first job working shifts at the urban cook house and stayed working there up until the very last day that she left for college. Once she graduated from Homewood High School, she followed her brother to the Southern Union State Community College in Oblika, Alabama, a little over two hours away from her hometown of Homewood.

Like I said, she was incredibly close to her older brother, so it made sense that she would go to the same college as him to be as close to him as possible. At that point, she wasn't totally sure what she wanted to do with her life yet. She just wanted to get her general education courses out of the way before she considered exactly what she wanted to do.

Whether it would be art or education, maybe business. Either way, no matter what path she decided to take on in life, she was motivated to be successful and to make something of herself. Now, on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019, 19-year-old Anaya went to go visit her mother and stepfather at home. She told him earlier that day that she was pretty tired before dropping off her brother at the home.

She then left sometime before midnight that same night.

Chapter 2: Who were Aniah Blanchard's family members?

In the surveillance video released to the public, we can also see Anaya walking into that same gas station. Then video sees the two leaving together in Anaya's car. Now, I haven't seen anywhere that the full video surveillance was released to the public. It only was these very few seconds of Anaya walking into the gas station.

Then another witness came forward saying that they saw Anaya interacting with a man near her car in front of a store. Now, I'm not sure if this is the same store or a different one since, as we will see in a minute, she had been to a few different stores that night. Either way, this witness said that they saw this person wearing nothing but very loose shorts with a gun tucked into his waistband.

He said he then saw this man push Anaya into her car before driving off with her inside. The witness said that he had told a friend about what he had just seen and that his friend basically just told him to mind his own business So he didn't report it right away and he didn't intervene. Obviously, after we see how this case goes, the witness is very regretful with his decision not to intervene.

Now, earlier I had mentioned that Anaya had been contacting her roommate through Snapchat shortly before midnight. So after looking into the phone data, police were able to gather messages and timestamps from these conversations. I am going to be looking down my notes a little bit to make sure that I have the times exactly right.

So, at 11.09 PM, she tells her roommate that she's close to being home. Then, at 11.38, she says that she was smoking a blunt. But then, at 11.40, she said that she was with a man named Eric, who she had just met. This was the last known message ever sent out by her phone. By 11.47, her phone was either shut off or it died, and there was no more activity on her phone after that.

now even though police never got a hold of her actual phone they were able to track her location of everywhere that she went that night so first she went in the direction of longleaf drive and cox road in auburn towards a subdivision after leaving the murphy oil gas station which she presumably stopped at after being seen at the Chevron gas station.

She then went down Wire Road towards Shug Jordan Parkway back to the area of the Chevron station. She then traveled north on South College Street towards Auburn Camp Road for a brief period before her phone was shut off at 1147 in the area of Clarion Inn. We also know that Anaya's car was last seen by a tag reader just south of Veterans Boulevard and South College Street near Interstate 85.

So, now let's go back a bit to when police found Anaya's car. So, as we know, it was found just a few days after she went missing with clear signs of damage to the passenger side. However, after examining the inside, police found even more damage that pointed towards a struggle. This car was just in complete disarray.

452.45 - 472.819 Host

There were chips scattered all over the floor and there appeared to be a large amount of blood on the passenger side of the car, which had been attempted to be cleaned because there was a very strong scent of a cleaning solution such as Clorox. They also found a bullet hole in the passenger side door as well as an unspent shell casing in the cup holder.
