Chapter 1: Why should you challenge yourself?
It's because it's not supposed to be easy. When you challenge yourself, it's supposed to be hard. When I told people that I was going to Georgia for college, everyone told me, don't do it. What is there in Georgia for you? Why are you going out of state when you could do the same thing in state? What? Why? It was because I wanted a challenge.
Chapter 2: What did Zorky learn from moving to Georgia?
When I got dropped off at the University of Georgia, I remember feeling so excited. It was like I was given my first taste of freedom and it was a decision I had made on my own. And as I waved goodbye to my parents, the one thing I didn't know was that a couple months later,
I would be on a FaceTime with them begging to drop out because I had no friends, because I didn't know who I was, and I was at the lowest point in my entire life. Sounds so dramatic, but it was true. I'm not going to sit here and act like it didn't happen. It did. And I remember they told me something that kept me going.
Chapter 3: How can struggles lead to personal growth?
that gave me faith in what I was doing, was going to make me a better person, was going to develop me as a person. And then in the end, I was going to be okay. They said, Zorky, it won't be easy. What? What do you mean it won't be easy?
This is supposed to be the best years of my life and majority of them I'm spending in my apartment alone, distraught and upset at myself because I have no friends, because I don't know what to do, because I feel like I've made the wrong decision. What do you mean it won't be easy? Every challenge that makes you grow as a person it won't be easy.
In the moment, you'll wonder, why is this happening to me? Why am I dealing with this? I'm supposed to be living it up. I'm supposed to be having a brat girl summer. Why does it feel so wrong? It's because it's not supposed to be easy. When you challenge yourself, it's supposed to be hard. It's supposed to be challenging.
Chapter 4: What mindset is needed to overcome challenges?
if you're doing the work to put yourself out of your comfort zone, it's not gonna feel easy. Anything that you're striving towards, whether that's picking up a new language, right? Whether that's training for a sport that you really wanna get better at. Whether that's like reading, right? Just picking up the habit of reading. It won't be easy. It won't be easy. Some things will come to you easier.
Some things will make you go into your flow state. But some things, they're going to fight you. No Jake Paul, Mike Tyson. They're going to fight you and it's going to be a KO. They're going to knock you on your butt. On your boonda. And you're going to have to make a decision. Do you stay down or do you get up? Do you stay down or do you get up? Do you let that moment...
of challenge get in the way of you making progress towards something you actually care about? Do you let the fact that, sure, you have no friends, you feel alone, you feel like you're second guessing yourself, do you let that get in the way of the goal which is to grow? Or do you use it as motivation? At that moment when I was on that call with my parents, the decision to me was clear.
Chapter 5: How can discomfort lead to valuable life lessons?
Chapter 6: What decision did Zorky face during tough times?
I can either relish in being unhappy or I can do something about it. Because I know the baseline is it won't be easy. That's something I know. I can predict this, right? It's already not easy. So if it's not easy, I can either get going and get to it or I can stay down and crumble. No cookie. No cookie. And listen, a crumble cookie is good once in a while, okay?
I know they have new flavors all the time and all that. But there is so much to learn and to experience when you go into the pain and into the discomfort. Because you realize it's really not that bad. Maybe the hard thing is going to lead you to the thing that you actually want to do. Maybe going to Athens for me and studying at UGA allowed me to learn that I can live anywhere.
I'll be able to make friends anywhere. I'll be able to be fine on my own.
That's more important to me than having the ideal college experience and I have a friend group that eventually is going to combust anyways.
Not actually, I'm kinda trolling a little bit, but you get what I'm saying. Maybe the experience you're having right now, it's meant to be hard because that's how you're going to grow. And if you wanna grow, whatever you do, it won't be easy. It won't. You want to challenge yourself, then it needs to be a challenge. You can't just have it for the free ski. You can't have something easy
Think about any game in sports. What's the fun in watching a team get blown out? There's no fun in that. After, like, the seventh goal, you're like, bro, turn it off. I already know what's going to happen. The good games are the ones that are close, that you win by a margin. It comes down to the wire. Those are the moments we live for. It's the same thing in life.
If this was easy, it'd be boring. I don't play Minecraft on peaceful mode anymore. I don't. Give me hard difficulty. Give me survival mode. Because the stakes are higher. And when you make progress in those stakes, it hit different. It hit different. So challenge yourself this next year. Do something that's out your comfort zone. If you don't know what it is yet, spend some time. Think about it.
