Chapter 1: Who is the special guest on The Toast today?

00:26 - 00:41 Jackie Oshry

Welcome back to The Toast. We are so excited to be sitting down with a guest. You know, we kind of don't really do guests, but today is very special. Jackie and I spent all week last week talking about one of our new favorite comedy specials, Life on Netflix by Andrew Schultz. And today we are joined by Andrew Schultz. Welcome to The Toast.

0

00:41 - 00:43 Andrew Schulz

Thank you guys so much for having me. This is an honor.

0

00:44 - 00:50 Jackie Oshry

It is so crazy to be sitting down with Andrew Schultz. Does anyone call you Andrew, or is it always Andrew Schultz?

0

00:51 - 00:56 Andrew Schulz

I think it's Andrew usually, but I like this Andrew Schultz. He's a firsty lasty. You're a firsty lasty. You're a firsty lasty.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

And I say Andrew Schultz. You know people who you have to say their full name.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Like a president or something. That guy's a firsty lasty. Or like a serial killer. Correct. Totally.

00:00 - 00:00 Claudia Oshry

It's not Jeffrey, right?

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

You're right, you're right.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Well, I bring up your last name because... We're so formal with mass murderers, right?

Chapter 2: Why is Andrew Schultz's comedy special controversial?

01:46 - 01:48 Andrew Schulz

You're the first person that's ever said that.

0

01:48 - 01:49 Jackie Oshry

What are you, like Italian?

0

01:50 - 01:55 Andrew Schulz

No, Italian is usually next. My mom is from Scotland and my dad is Irish and German.

0

01:56 - 01:56 Jackie Oshry

Oh.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Now I will say.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Oh, so he's German.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

So there is some family history.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Oh, yikes.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Really? Well, it depends how you interpret the history. Apparently my family in my German part on my dad's side was from Prussia. They came in like the 1800s. So there's not like a lot of like. So you predate.

Chapter 3: What makes Andrew Schultz's special unique and emotional?

03:14 - 03:16 Andrew Schulz

I am. My wife did it and found out she is.

0

03:17 - 03:17 Jackie Oshry

Is what, Jewish?

0

03:17 - 03:30 Andrew Schulz

Jewish. Oh, wow. But she was raised Christian, and she'll go to church and everything like that. But her mom's mom. was Jewish. Oh, so she's totally Jewish. By your guys' rules. By our standards. If it's the female blood.

0

03:30 - 03:30 Claudia Oshry

Yeah.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

So technically my daughter. And your child.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Yeah. Oh my God, congrats.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

So I gotta protect you guys.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Thank you. Thank you.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

We'll take it. And they're taking me down too if they go after you guys. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're right, you're next. And I don't even get to go to your heaven. It's true.

Chapter 4: How does Andrew Schultz approach jokes about his wife?

07:40 - 07:43 Jackie Oshry

I just feel like I should leave you two alone. Like you and your hormones.

0

07:43 - 07:55 Claudia Oshry

We have a lot in common. You're both parents. It's really parenthood that makes you this person. And podcasting. Podcasting just makes you curious.

0

07:56 - 07:57 Jackie Oshry

This is what I want. Go, go, go.

0

07:57 - 08:00 Claudia Oshry

And it makes you have strong opinions about things. It makes you just think about stuff.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Because you can't just come on here and be like, everybody makes sense. Yeah.

00:00 - 00:00 Claudia Oshry

Things are good and working the way they should.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

It's like a reality show. The best characters on reality shows are either people who are hyper aware, so they're super insecure about what people think of them, or Kathy Hilton, which is the opposite. Doesn't give a fuck. Doesn't even know what's going on. I'll watch my wife watch the Real Housewives thing, and I'll walk in and there's that scene. She's like, I found out I'm Chinese.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

And they're like, you can answer this through dot com. She's like, no, a person told me in Bangladesh. And you're like, what? And she's like, most of us would say that and know we're being silly. She's completely unaware. I believe her, too. And it's amazing.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Yeah.

Chapter 5: What are the 'Naggy Bitch Wife' segments about?

11:30 - 11:32 Jackie Oshry

She could say it, it's 105 pounds.

0

11:32 - 11:38 Claudia Oshry

I would never, but she told us how much she's netted so far. That's different than saying the overall weight.

0

11:38 - 11:43 Jackie Oshry

And I have a long, complicated history with being fat, so it's just been a journey, but I don't wanna talk about me.

0

11:44 - 11:46 Andrew Schulz

Having said that. I might wanna learn about those things.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Having said that, I turned on your special to escape. And I had no, I didn't really even know what it was about. I just had seen your comedy before and I thought me and my husband would enjoy it together. And I actually, no, I did know that you were sharing about your journey with infertility.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

So we could both. I like to call it fertility. Okay.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Yeah.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Like, you know how like when someone goes on a spiritual journey, it's not called an unspiritual journey. Yeah, to become spiritual. The idea is, or like, you've named the thing the goal. It's like a weight loss journey, not a weight gain journey. Yeah. Hopefully.

00:00 - 00:00 Claudia Oshry

You've named the thing the goal.

Chapter 6: How does Andrew Schultz view relationship dynamics and 'ick' culture?

13:10 - 13:13 Andrew Schulz

I already did spoil it on the podcast.

0

13:13 - 13:16 Jackie Oshry

It was so... So good.

0

13:16 - 13:34 Andrew Schulz

Oh, yeah, he's brilliant. He's super talented. Yeah, that was a cool thing. That was definitely a cool thing. When we were doing the tour in the beginning, obviously, we hadn't had Shiloh yet. So a lot of the tour, people didn't see that part of the video. Oh. And then also, you're terrified, right? Because you don't want to jinx anything.

0

13:34 - 13:49 Andrew Schulz

So I don't even want to say we're pregnant in the beginning until it gets to the point where the baby's healthy. Past viability. Viability, exactly. And eventually he gets there. My wife's like, OK, I feel comfortable with you saying we're pregnant. I'm like, OK, boom, we do that. And then I kind of reordered things. And then the end.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

I was like, yeah, I just feel like they've been on this journey, and I think that we kind of owe it to the audience to know that it worked out. Or just to know. I can't leave every show going, and then we'll see. And then all these people are coming out like, what the fuck you mean? What does that mean? But I started, and we did the video, and it was like... Yeah, the impact was wild.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Like, you get these DMs from people, and everybody's going through it. Like, at my age, it's every... It went from feeling like nobody's going through it to, does anybody have them regular anymore?

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Right, right.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

And it was really comforting.

00:00 - 00:00 Jackie Oshry

Yeah.
