Chapter 1: What was the recap of Wicked?
Good morning, millennials. Welcome back to The Toast. Happy Monday. That dead ass feels like a Wednesday because the week is so short. We have so much to fucking talk about. Hey, Jax, how you doing? Doing good. We have so much to talk about. I was like working all night last night, you know, watching Wicked. I worked all night. It doesn't feel like a Monday. I worked all night.
I saw it late because we went after the kids went out, and I didn't get home until midnight. It was crazy. I mean, that's so crazy of you. I was thinking, she's such a good mom. Just miss bedtime one time. Just go to the movies at 4 o'clock. I went at 5. It was perfect. We got home at 8.30. I went to bed at 9. It was perfect. No, seriously. I got home at 11.45. That's so stupid.
No, I didn't think that, I don't know what I would have done differently. I wouldn't have like left my children to go sit at the movies. Like even sitting there and they're sleeping. I'm like, now I remember why I never want to go to the movies. Like this experience is not for someone with young children. Like. least of all me, but the movie, I had to see the movie.
So I did what needed to be done. This is all Jackie. I wasn't supposed to see the movie. I bought tickets intentionally for Thanksgiving weekend. I thought it would be such a nice way to spend the Thanksgiving weekend. Everybody's out of the city. There were tons of tickets. And then Jackie sprung on me on Saturday. She's like, hey, I think I'm gonna see Wicked tomorrow night.
Like if you could see it too, so we can recap it together. And by the way, trying to get tickets to Wicked in Manhattan is like trying to get tickets to Hamilton. It was insane. I went to the most random theater at this random time. And the theater we booked had three rows. And I was like, where? Are we going to someone's living room? It was so scary.
We were so afraid up until the moment we walked in. It was totally fine. It was just a really small theater. And we are going to do a big official Wicked recap. It's going to be our first story. If you're looking to avoid spoilers, check the timestamps in the description of this episode. There will be a full timestamp for like anything you could possibly spoil. So that's the first story.
We won't get into it. It'll be hard not to. It's also going to be so hard not to sing because I was so well behaved at the theater last night. I can't stop singing all morning. And though I'd never show it, I'd be so happy I could melt. And I actually feel, and I promise we won't dive into the whole thing right now.
I just want to start off today's episode by like actually apologizing to Cynthia and Ariana. Because my ass was in the theater holding a shit ton of space. For the lyrics of Defying Gravity. And I actually think my husband was also holding space for it too. Interesting. I feel as though they've been acting so crazy on this press tour. Like I fully understand why.
And given the performances that they delivered, like they are allowed to act however they want. Like if I'm that talented, yeah, I'm also crazy. Okay. Yeah. Well, that's the thing. Like with that level of talent, you have to be crazy. Like you're not also, like Elon said, I'm not also going to be like a cool, normal dude. Right. Yeah.

So if you're looking like into cooking or comedy, they have the best. They have Gordon Ramsay. They have Ellen, you know. For me, I watched a Kris Jenner one and that's like Kris Jenner really rocked. I think is like one of my role models, especially when it comes to like what she's built on social and, you know, female driven. And it's just it's brilliant.
And so I was like, if I could sit down and talk to Chris, like I would ask her a thousand questions about business. And they literally did that and recorded it. That's 50% off at masterclass.com slash toast, masterclass.com slash toast. Thank you. Slash chart.
Are you emotional about Masterclass? Thank you, slash chart, yeah. Beautiful concept. Okay, so starting now, if you want to avoid Wicked spoilers, check the timestamps and just go straight to story number two.
Yes, however, I feel like everybody knows the story of Wicked, so the spoilers won't really be in us talking about the storyline, but just if you want to see what your own original thoughts would be before hearing ours and not let us influence the way that you see the movie.
skipped a story to check the timestamps but the news is that wicked has soared past the gladiator 2 at the box office earning the best opening ever for a broadway film adaptation people are really trying to make it like gladiator and uh wicked coming out coming out on the same weekend it's like a barbenheimer no nobody's seen gladiator and i heard it was horrible
By the way, it looks good, Gladiator. I love that Paul Metz cow. I just love that boy. I think maybe I've seen the first Gladiator pieces of it. So I'm not like a Gladiator swirly, but I would see this one. It's like historical fiction. It is. Yes, the Roman Empire. I know nothing. And, like, I actually don't care. By the way, like, I like the energy for Glicked.
Except I think the thing is, it's like... It's unwarranted. Men want to see Wicked, too. I think with the Barbie movie, it was like, the boys will see Oppenheimer, the girls will see Barbie. But, like, the guys want to see Wicked, too. Ben... Okay, first of all... I saw his video. Ben absolutely loved it. And Ben, I didn't know he was, like, on our way.
He's like, I didn't want to tell you this until we were almost there. I've never seen... The Wicked Show. The Broadway show, which is crazy because Ben grew up in the city and Ben's mom loves like growing up. Claudia, that's crazy. It was so crazy. I was so shocked. He was like, it doesn't have anything to do with The Wizard of Oz. It was really crazy.
So his experience was like seeing the Broadway show for the first time. so fresh and he was speechless. Like we both at the very, like when it ended, we just like, we were like, we couldn't speak. We were genuinely speechless. Ben did not stop talking about it all the entire ride home the entire night after playing all the music. Like it's wicked is for everyone. Yeah. Wicked is for everyone.
So, uh, Cynthia, Ariana, time to recap. Overall thoughts, like it was amazing. It was incredibly done, like done to perfection, like a feast for the eyes. you know, the sets, everything. It was just like so beautiful. And then they chose like seriously the most talented people. And the storyline is all, there's a reason why it is like the most popular show on Broadway.
