I'm super expectant. Got a lot of faith for that night. So show up January 19th at 6 p.m. Go to jesusinthestreet.org slash tickets to get your tickets. Let's go into Luke chapter 8. Now we're going to see Luke open up chapter 8 here with talking about women accompanying Jesus. He said, And the twelve were with him and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities.

Mary called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out. Joanna, the wife of Chusa, Herod's household manager, and Susanna and many others who provided for them out of their means. Now, this is interesting that Jesus is traveling with some women as well, because he had a different perspective of women than the religious leaders did at the time.

91.133 - 110.1 Bryce Crawford

Alongside that, it also says that many others who provided for them out of their means. So this is saying that Jesus could have produced as much money as he wanted, as much food as he wanted because he was God, but no, it shows him in his humanity relying on the servanthood of others to provide for the ministry that they're accomplishing.

110.14 - 131.658 Bryce Crawford

So I think it's super powerful, just shows the humanity of Jesus Christ here. We're about to read the parable of the sower, and I'm going to break it down using the scripture below it. Oftentimes, this is a beautiful thing. I love getting to preach the word of God, but oftentimes, to understand scripture that Jesus says, we can just read some verses afterwards, and he tells us what's going on.

131.678 - 150.426 Bryce Crawford

So we're going to do that today. The parable of the sower. And when a great crowd was gathering and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable, a sower went out to sow a seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot. And the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock. And as it grew up, it withered away because it had no moisture.

150.866 - 156.968 Bryce Crawford

And some fell among the thorns and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew and it yielded a hundredfold.

157.308 - 183.676 Bryce Crawford

as he said these things he called out he who has ears to hear let him hear when jesus whenever jesus says let anyone who has ears to hear let him hear he's saying if any of you are humble enough to listen to the teachings and apply it to your life then do so now some might say well what does that parable mean we're about to jump down into it but why does jesus speak in parables if you guys remember i made a podcast about this earlier but it's a sifting mechanism it separates the people that just wanted the benefits of the kingdom without the king

Chapter 2: What significant events occur in Luke chapter 8?

296.124 - 307.611 Bryce Crawford

I think a lot of us fall for that. He's saying, look, that's going to happen to a lot of people. And as for those that fell among the thorns, there are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of the life, and their fruit does not mature.

0

308.472 - 325.625 Bryce Crawford

Saying, look, those that get distracted by riches, the love for money, those that get distracted by sin, their faith is actually going to choke out. They're going to stop producing fruit. And then he says, as for that in good soil, that's those who hear the word, hold fast in an honest and good heart and bear fruit with its patience.

0

325.645 - 339.519 Bryce Crawford

That's when the seed falls on good soil, it waters and produces fruits. Beautiful thing. Verse 16, no one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand so that those who enter may see the light.

0

340.464 - 359.318 Bryce Crawford

Man, when have you ever been changed by the goodness of God and thought, I'm not going to tell anyone or thought, man, I'm just like, I'm going to not do anything or not going to be bold. Man, our boldness, our love, the reason we forgive our servanthood, our actions are the byproduct of.

0

359.998 - 376.398 Bryce Crawford

of the light that lives inside of us if jesus is the light and the light lives inside of us that means everywhere we go we are a light and it is accessible to anyone there's the spirit of wherever the spirit of the lord is there is freedom and if the spirit of the lord lives in you then freedom is accessible to anyone anywhere at all times that's powerful

377.139 - 396.024 Bryce Crawford

For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. Everything comes to light. Take care then how you hear. For to the one who has, more will be given. And from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away. Jesus' mother and brothers. I love this passage.

396.804 - 412.213 Bryce Crawford

Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. Who would have thought, you know, in their right mind, most people think, oh, well, it's his mother and his brothers. They would have had special treatment because they're mothers and brothers. But even Jesus' family, he shows no partiality to. Man, he's just a man of his word.

412.653 - 427.382 Bryce Crawford

And he was told, your mother and your brothers are standing outside desiring to see you. But he answered to them, my mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it. Those who are followers of me, those who obey my word, those are a part of my family. Those are the people are part of my family. So that's encouragement for you.

427.863 - 445.159 Bryce Crawford

Like the reason we obey his word is not because we have to, but because we want to, because we love him. And those that obey his word are a part of his family. Jesus calms a storm. I love this story. Man, you guys need to be encouraged with your faith, man. we got to understand Jesus is a promise keeper. He's faithful.

Chapter 3: Why did Jesus travel with women?

712.539 - 719.34 Bryce Crawford

And there was a man named Jairus who was a ruler of the synagogue. A man of esteemed respect.

0

720.2 - 744.996 Bryce Crawford

high authority and high power this guy's at the synagogue and he has a daughter who is sick and is 12 years old okay and he falls at the feet of jesus he implored him to come to his house so this man of high respect high authority and a jew a ruler in the synagogue a synagogue wasn't just like a place of worship i mean this would be like a central point for the people

0

745.496 - 763.203 Bryce Crawford

He falls down before all these people who are trying to figure out who Jesus is and goes, Jesus, you're the Christ, come help my daughter. For he had only one daughter about 12 years of age and she was dying. Keep in mind the age of this girl. As Jesus went, he was going, the people pressed around him and there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for 12 years.

0

763.583 - 783.23 Bryce Crawford

This woman who had a bleeding disease for 12 years had the bleeding disease for the same amount of time this child had been alive. She had spent all her living on physicians, and no one could heal her. She came up behind Jesus and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. She thought that if she could just touch Jesus Christ, that she would be healed.

0

784.59 - 802.869 Bryce Crawford

That's beautiful faith. And Jesus said, who was it that touched me? Now, you've got to keep in mind, Jesus is crowded and being pushed by so many different people. But because of this woman's faith, and she experienced the healing power of Jesus Christ by his touch, he knew that power went out of him. When all denied it, Peter said, master, the crowds surround you and are pressing on you.

802.889 - 818.68 Bryce Crawford

But Jesus said, someone touched me for I perceived the power had gone out for me. And you have to keep in mind, this woman also did this in secret because she would have been deemed unclean. Like if people knew about her bleeding disease, they were not allowed to be touched by her because they were like, she's got blood on her. She's bleeding. She's unclean.

819.38 - 837.147 Bryce Crawford

So she probably did this in secret too to protect Jesus because she's like, man, people think I'm unclean. If they know I touched Jesus, I would have made him unclean. But I know if I touch him, he's going to make me clean. And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling and falling down before him in the synagogue in this public area that all these people are going to see.

838.007 - 859.052 Bryce Crawford

And the presence of all people was she had touched him and how she had been immediately healed. And he looked at her, someone that people had written off as unclean, gross. He looked at her and said, daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. And while he was still speaking, someone from the ruler's house came and said, Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the teacher anymore.

859.072 - 881.153 Bryce Crawford

So keep in mind, the second the woman gets healed is the second that Jairus' daughter is pronounced dead. Okay, isn't it crazy? For 12 years, this little girl's been alive, and for that same amount of time, this lady has had the bleeding disease. And the second that she gets healed is the second that his daughter is pronounced dead. Isn't it interesting? Your daughter is dead.
