0

53.213 - 71.77 Bryce Crawford

Now we're about to see Jesus send out the 72. So you have the layers of Jesus's circle is John, the disciple whom he loved, probably his best friend, right hand man. Then you got Peter, James, and John. Then you got the 12. Then you got the 72. Then you got a few hundred. Then you got the masses, okay? He's talking to the 72 here.

0

Chapter 2: What is the significance of the 72 sent out by Jesus?

72.771 - 87.225 Bryce Crawford

After this, the Lord appointed 72 others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, in every town and place where he himself was about to go. He sends them out in twos. Sends them out in twos. And he said to them, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Jesus says, the issue isn't that people aren't ready to give their life to me.

0

87.305 - 105.516 Bryce Crawford

He says, there's a lot of people that are ready to submit to me and my teachings. But there are very few people telling people about me. So we need more laborers. And that's a call to us today is like Jesus says, like, there's so many people out there that are ready to give their life to that are ready to submit to me. And I think that's like that helps me overcome the fear of man in my brain.

0

105.916 - 122.245 Bryce Crawford

when it's like someone looks too scary to talk to. But Jesus says, actually, there's a lot more people out here that are ready to give their life to me. So there's a really extreme chance that the scariest person ever in your school, in your workplace, or on the street, there's a very high chance that they're hungry and searching and open to Jesus Christ.

0

122.745 - 140.936 Bryce Crawford

Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Now, Jesus isn't saying that as an excuse to not preach the gospel. He's saying, look, go preach the gospel. He's saying also pray. Pray for more harvesters to come walk in boldness and actually be sent out in places that you can't go because there's only one of you. There's only one of me.

0

141.957 - 170.952 Bryce Crawford

So he goes in a little bit more detail, but basically what he told the 12 disciples in the last chapter. Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick in it and say to them, the kingdom of God has come near to you.

171.012 - 187.788 Bryce Crawford

But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into the streets and say, even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless, know this, that the kingdom of God has come near. I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that own town. That is a very bold statement. We're about to break that down here in a second.

Chapter 3: How should we respond to rejection when sharing our faith?

187.808 - 204.514 Bryce Crawford

But I love... That Jesus is like, man, wipe the dust off your feet. Because it's not up to us to save people. And I think that's, again, another comforting thing about preaching the gospel. It's not up to me. The Holy Spirit does the work. We plant the seeds. We water the seeds. But God brings the increase. And so it's like, look, if they don't receive it, it's not your fault. You did your job.

0

204.534 - 217.74 Bryce Crawford

You told them the gospel. Okay, keep moving. There's other people that need to hear it. And I think it's just a powerful statement. Now we're about to understand what Jesus is saying. He says, Now Tyre and Sidon were known as just insanely unrepentant cities. Like they were just totally wicked cities.

0

231.408 - 252.606 Bryce Crawford

And he's saying, look, if I had done the same things that I've done in y'all cities and their cities, these unrepentant cities, these cities that are doomed to judgment before God, they would have repented a long time ago is what he's saying. He says, but it will be more bearable in the judgment day for Tyre and Sidon than for you. That's crazy saying these insanely unrighteous wicked cities.

0

253.186 - 271.35 Bryce Crawford

It's going to be less of a harsh judgment on them than it is for you because you're rejecting the new covenant is what he's saying. And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. The one who hears you hears me and the one who rejects you rejects me and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.

0

272.813 - 294.822 Bryce Crawford

The 72 returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name. Now this just probably encouraged Jesus so much. And he said to them, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. What an encouragement. He's already been defeated. That is an encouragement to you and I. Satan's already been defeated. He's a loser. Satan's a doo-doo butt. He ain't got nothing on us.

295.242 - 314.916 Bryce Crawford

He's already been defeated. And Jesus saw him fall like lightning. You guys know how fast lightning strikes? That's how fast he fell. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and all over the power of the enemy and nothing shall hurt you. So not only did he see Satan fall, but he gives us as believers. the power to conquer the enemy, conquer the devil.

Chapter 4: What does Jesus say about the authority given to believers?

315.316 - 329.585 Bryce Crawford

The spirit of the God gives us strength to say no to temptation. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Then he says, look, listen, at the end of the day, don't become prideful that spirits listen to you because they're actually not listening to you.

0

329.605 - 347.878 Bryce Crawford

They're listening to the name of Jesus, listening to the spirit of God. And he's like, look, don't get prideful. Just be glad that your names are written in heaven. That's what we should rejoice in at the end of the day. And I think that's such a powerful statement. Jesus rejoices in the Father's will. Now, he takes a moment. It says in that same hour, he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit.

0

347.918 - 363.648 Bryce Crawford

He just takes a moment with God and says, I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. So the will of the Father is that his children, that the people of God recognize that he's the Christ.

0

363.668 - 398.118 Bryce Crawford

And he's saying, look, in this time period, those that understand I'm the Messiah, I grace be to God because it's your will that your children know that it's me. He says, He says, He said, I tell you that many prophets and kings desire to see what you see and did not see it and to hear what you hear and did not hear. He says, look, there are so many people that anticipated the coming of me.

0

398.518 - 428.211 Bryce Crawford

He's like, praise be to God that you guys are the ones that get to see me. I mean, look at even the Luke chapters one and two. When we saw that promise where God promised was Zacharias, I think. Let's flip there really quick. God promised, I think it was Zachariah. Zachariah, I believe. Let's see. Um, yes, he. Oh, sorry. Simeon. God promised Simeon that he would see the Messiah before he died.

429.124 - 446.752 Bryce Crawford

Think about that. All the prophets of old have been prophesying about this Messiah, and Simeon here is thinking, all right, I'm doing the purification rituals for newborn babies at the temple and everything, and he holds up the Messiah, and the Lord reveals to him that he's seen the Messiah, and he goes, now I can depart in peace. You guys remember that in Luke chapter 2? It's powerful.

Chapter 5: What should we rejoice in according to Jesus?

446.792 - 463.717 Bryce Crawford

He's like, look, there's so many people that have anticipated this, and you guys get to lay your eyes on the Messiah. Now we're about to close chapter 11 with this long story here, but it's powerful. And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test saying, teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said to him, what is written in the law? How do you read it?

0

463.757 - 475.756 Bryce Crawford

So the lawyer says, man, what does it look like to have a life that's honoring to God? And Jesus says, well, what does the law say? And again, Jesus summed up the entire law, 613 laws and 10 commandments with this statement that the lawyer is about to repeat.

0

476.477 - 493.651 Bryce Crawford

He says, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself. And he said this to him, you have answered correctly. Do this and you will live. He's like, that is a life honoring to God. But he desiring to justify himself to Jesus said, and who is my neighbor?

0

494.291 - 515.304 Bryce Crawford

She's like, love your neighbor as yourself. He's like, who's my neighbor? Who is your neighbor? Is it someone that just is always kind to you 24-7? Is your neighbor someone that always does favors for you? Is your neighbor someone that you owe a favor back to? Is it like that's the only reason you're kind to them? Or is your neighbor only someone that's the same ethnicity as you?

0

516.437 - 537.674 Bryce Crawford

No, actually, we're about to learn this here in the story. Jesus says a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and he fell among robbers who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now, by chance, a priest was going down that road, a priest, someone who was practicing religion frequently. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side, ignored him.

537.914 - 554.73 Bryce Crawford

So likewise, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine, and he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.

554.75 - 575.143 Bryce Crawford

And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I'll repay you when I come back. Which of these three do you think proved to be the neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers? He said, The one who showed him mercy. And Jesus said to him, You go and do likewise. It doesn't matter what walk of life people come from.

575.163 - 594.195 Bryce Crawford

It doesn't matter what ethnicity they are. It doesn't matter what their past looks like. It doesn't matter what religion they are. Jesus says, man, show no partiality to him. The Bible teaches us that the goodness of God actually brings man to repentance. So when we show the heart of the Father to people, it's actually going to motivate people to go, man, what's different about you, man?

594.295 - 608.46 Bryce Crawford

Why are you different? Why are you treating me like this? And that's when we get to share the love of Jesus. 1 Peter 3.15 says, Be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks for the hope inside of you. People are going to ask, man, what makes you so different? But do it with what? Do it with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter says.
