Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Shea Stevens. Former President Donald Trump rallied on the campus of Georgia Tech on Monday. He was only a short distance from the debate stage that he shared with President Joe Biden a few months ago. From member station WABE, Sam Greenglass reports from Atlanta.
A lot's changed since June, when Biden's shaky debate here led to Vice President Kamala Harris assuming the top of the ticket. Four months later, rallying in Atlanta, Trump berated Harris for calling him a fascist. Trump's former White House chief of staff has told reporters his boss praised Adolf Hitler.
And then they say he's a Nazi. I'm not a Nazi.
I'm the opposite of a Nazi. While the basketball arena had many energetic Trump supporters, some Georgia Tech students said they came only out of curiosity. Georgia is attracting lots of attention from both campaigns in the final stretch, including upcoming visits from former First Lady Michelle Obama and vice presidential nominee Tim Walz. For NPR News, I'm Sam Greenglass in Atlanta.
With only a week to go until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris is poised to deliver what her campaign is billing as her closing argument tonight on the National Mall. NPR's Giles Snyder reports.
Kamala Harris is to deliver her speech on the National Mall at the Ellipse with the White House in the backdrop. The Ellipse is the same spot where former President Donald Trump spoke to his supporters on January 6, 2021, just before they stormed the Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from formalizing President Joe Biden's victory.
While Harris speaks this evening, Donald Trump will be rallying supporters in Pennsylvania, which has a growing Puerto Rican population. The Trump campaign is facing backlash from the Sunday evening rally at Madison Square Garden after a comedian called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. Giles Snyder, NPR News.
The United States says the Israeli military attack on targets in Iran should end the direct military confrontation between the two enemies. NPR's Michelle Kellerman reports that Iran is calling for an emergency security council session to discuss the matter.
Iran is trying to gaslight the world and play the victim, says U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield. She points out that Iran launched 180 ballistic missiles at Israel four weeks ago, and the Israeli strike Friday was, in her words, targeted and proportional.
Israel has made clear to the world that its response is now complete. And so we again call on Iran. to stop its attacks against Israel and rein in its terrorist proxies.
Iran says it reserves the right to respond to what it calls criminal acts by Israel. Israel's ambassador says any further aggression will be met with swift and painful consequences. Michelle Kellerman, NPR News, the State Department.
U.S. futures are mixed in after-hours trading on Wall Street. This is NPR News. Hip-hop mogul Sean Combs is facing two new lawsuits, alleging he sexually assaulted a 10-year-old and a 17-year-old. That brings to more than two dozen the number of cases filed against Combs, He's being held without bail in New York on charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and other offenses.
He's pleaded not guilty. A retired Louisiana state trooper has reached a plea deal in connection with the deadly arrest of motorist Ronald Green. Corey York pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor. Aidan McHill of member station WRKF has the story.
York originally faced the most serious charges of the officers involved in the 2019 death of Ronald Green, including felony charges of negligent homicide and malfeasance. Body camera footage sparked public outrage, showing officers tasing, punching, and choking Green as he pleaded for mercy during a high-speed chase arrest.
York can be seen dragging Green and forcibly restraining him face down for several minutes, actions some experts say likely restricted Green's breathing. Autopsies were ultimately inconclusive about the cause of death. In the plea deal, York agreed to testify against the last remaining officer awaiting trial and will serve a one-year probation. He will also retain his pension of $83,000 a year.

Musk is giving away a million dollars a day to voters picked at random in swing states like Pennsylvania. Krasner's called it an illegal lottery.
Musk announced the giveaway earlier this month during a rally for former President Donald Trump. This is NPR News.
