I'm Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Tuesday, December 17th, and this is your Morning Wire Afternoon Update.
More information has come to light about yesterday's school shooting in Wisconsin. Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has the latest.
Police say a 15-year-old female student at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison opened fire during a study hall session, killing another student and a teacher. The shooter, who we are not naming due to a company policy, then turned the gun on herself. In a press conference on Tuesday, Chief Sean Barnes said that it appears the shooter's motivation was, quote, a combination of factors.
We cannot share that information at this time because we do not want to jeopardize the investigation and those who are currently cooperating with us.
He also clarified that a second grade teacher, not a second grade student, as he previously stated, made the first 911 call. Barnes also reiterated that police are aware of a document spreading on social media that some are claiming is the shooter's manifesto, but that document's authenticity has not been verified. Barnes did not take any questions in the Tuesday afternoon press conference.
Allies of President-elect Trump are swooping in to buy up unused border wall pieces as the Biden administration races to sell them off. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced he plans to bid on the remaining parts and store them on state land until the Trump administration takes office. Patrick has vowed to support the effort with state funds. Here's Patrick.
I'm going to find out first thing in the morning where we're going to take the bid. I've got a billion dollars in my pocket to do it. I write the budget with Senator Joan Huffman. We have the money. We're going to have about $6 billion in our budget for border security.
The materials were sold by the Biden administration after halting border wall construction in 2021.
Ukraine's intelligence service says it assassinated a top Russian military official in Moscow today. Daily Wire reporter Tim Pearce has the latest.
Lieutenant General Igor Kurilov was killed along with his assistant by a bomb hidden in a nearby electric scooter. Kurilov had been accused of using chemical weapons against Ukraine's troops and labeled a war criminal by Kyiv. According to Reuters, a source from Ukraine's intelligence service said the agency was behind the attack.
The source said Kurilov was a legitimate target because of his war crimes. Russian officials have vowed to avenge what they are calling an act of terrorism by Ukraine.

Calls for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down have grown louder. This all comes amid Trudeau's low approval ratings and a massive blow to his cabinet after Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned. Some provincial leaders warn that the political chaos could harm Canada's response to Trump's tariff threats.
Meanwhile, Conservative Majority Leader Pierre Poliev pointed out that this all comes amid a historic deficit.
Her deficit plan was $40 billion. It was out of control as it was. But at least to her credit, she said no more than that. And she decided she would have a guardrail. We know a guardrail is meant to stop vehicles from flying off cliffs. Well, she was trying throughout the year to avoid going off the cliff. There were two people on the bus who had other ideas.
The Prime Minister and Carbon Tax Carney. And the two of them went to the front of the bus, they grabbed the wheel, they pulled it sharply to the left, smashing into that guardrail, and now Canadians are at the bottom of the ravine in a big pile of debt.
Canada Health says nearly 5% of all deaths in the country last year were due to medically assisted suicide. In 2023, over 15,000 people died through the Medical Assistance in Dying program, bringing the total number of assisted suicide deaths since its legalization in 2016 to more than 60,000. The program has seen a significant rise in applications with nearly 20,000 requests last year alone.
Critics argue the expansion of MAID, particularly its upcoming inclusion of mental illness as a qualifying condition in 2027, raises serious ethical concerns.
And Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the Des Moines Register and pollster Ann Selzer, accusing them of election interference.
She's a very good pollster. She knows what she was doing. And she then quit before and will probably be filing a major lawsuit against him today or tomorrow.
The lawsuit stems from a November 2nd poll showing Vice President Kamala Harris with a three-point lead over Trump in Iowa, a state he ended up winning by over 13 points. Trump's legal team claims the poll was deliberately leaked and manipulated to create a false narrative of Harris' success, influencing voters and diverting resources from Trump's campaign.
The lawsuit calls the poll an attempt to sway the 2024 election and mislead the public.
