Chapter 2: Who is Gary Whitta and what is his role?
Joining me is the force that is, Gary Whitta. Good morning. Morning, Gary. How's it going?
Yeah, good. This is my third time doing this in relatively short succession. This is good. I know.
I think that the fans have demanded it.
You should just make this a regular thing. Let's just say it's a regular thing.
I'm trying to get Whitta Whitta's things back. I don't care what day of the week it is. I love having you back, Gary, of course. I love that you've came with trinkets and a gift.
I've got a little bit of show and tell for you today. Yeah, what's up with all this? Because you said it was a slow news day, so... I mean, do you want to just do it now? Yeah, let's do it now. So I brought... You know we were talking about retro emulation and handhelds and things like that. I actually brought a couple of the handhelds in, because I know you were curious about them. Yes.

Chapter 3: What gift did Gary bring for Blessing?
So we can... We'll take a very quick look at those if you're interested. But first, I wanted to wish you...
Oh!
A Merry Christmas. Oh, I'm so excited for whatever this is. For audio listeners, Gary here has a gift that he's just presented me, right? If I'm going to guess, I'm going to guess that this is some kind of really cool British snack.
No, it's related to something we were talking about recently. And by the way, I have to give Leah credit. She rapped this, because I can't rap for shit.
I was going to say, this is really good rapping. She did. I feel bad for just tearing it open. No, no, no.
I agree. It's like a nice cake that you don't want to cut into. Oh, my God. No way. Holy shit. Gary. You said you wanted one, right? Gary. You were curious about getting one. Gary, thank you so much.
Can I give you a hug? This is awesome. Oh, yeah, sure. Yeah, give me a hug. I was just going to give you a fist bump. Okay.
This is so nice. Oh, you're welcome. Merry Christmas.
Oh, man. Gary got me an Apple TV. Holy shit. Look at this. Here, camera, if you want to zoom in. Holy shit.

Chapter 4: What is the significance of Black Myth: Wukong winning Game of the Year?
Yeah, if I show this screen, you would have to punch in, but you can sort of see it.
That is Shaq Fu.
That is straight up Shaq Fu.
Yeah, this is incredible. I mean, basically what's happened is technology has advanced over the last couple of decades so quickly that these major... Even arcade machines...
that were once deemed like beyond our reach you know remember how like the home like the nes port of like again an arcade game wouldn't be as good right because the hardware wasn't as good now it's better arcades are basically extinct now because you can everything they could do you can now do on a machine that is crazy to think about the fact that we had to have these boxes in our living rooms or like right next to our tv to run these eight bit games and now like straight up it's just on this little pad
Let me show you one of my... You can take it anywhere. It doesn't even waste the battery that much. Let me see if I can show you one of my favorite things. Um, real quick. This might not be the most interesting thing for people that are listening on audio, right?
No, do that, because I also, because I was going to talk a little bit more about Wicked, just the fact that Soundtrack's up, been listening to it this morning, um, and was loving it, right? Like, I think it's a fantastic movie, fantastic musical, one of my favorites. Um, my favorite musical, but, like, one of my favorite movies at this point.
Um, as I was listening to it this morning, I got a notification on my phone that Kendrick Lamar had dropped, like, a new video on YouTube, and I watched it. Turns out, he surprise dropped a new album this morning. Oh, wow. And I've been listening to the new album. The shadow drop. The hour before KFGD, I've been listening to it. And it was to the point where I'm halfway through.
It was like 9.30 or whatever. And somebody's knocking on the door to deliver mail. And Barrett has to run through and get the package. Because I don't hear it. Because I have this music just turned up all the way in my ears.

Chapter 5: Why is there controversy around game awards?
Yeah, I'm the closest to the door, like right next to Cool Rig. And let me tell you, kind of, Actually being more on time some days this week where I've actually heard the knock that happens when packages are delivered. It's a really fucking loud knock. And I can hear it across, like, the building. And Blessing is right there and he cannot hear this man knock. Knocking his fucking heart out.
And I'm concerned about Blessing's hearing within the next five years.
Oh, no, it's going downhill. But I've also been listening to very loud music since I was 15.
You should do the Apple hearing test with the AirPods because it will test your hearing now and tell you if your hearing's fucked up.
I don't need that. I already know that my hearing's fucked. Is your hearing bad? Whenever I'm at a party, whenever I'm at a club or any place with loud music and people are yelling over each other or whatever to talk to each other, there will be certain moments where I'm like, oh, certainly they can't hear, people can't hear each other. But yeah, they can.
And I'm standing right there and I cannot hear a word anybody's saying. So I know my hearing is going bad, but it is what it is. Like, you know, I'll do what I can to listen to Kendall Kamara at the max volume if it means I don't hear it in 10 years. It'll be it. I got to listen to it.
This is the thing I wanted to show you. This is one of my all-time favorite arcade games. This is Outrun. This is the arcade version. Oh, that's awesome. This is the fucking arcade game. Holy cow. I used to put quarters in when I was, you know, 10p pieces or 50p pieces when I was a kid, or what you could call quarters here, I guess.
And, like, all these arcade games, I was like, oh, man, I wish I could have them in my home. Like, I want to reach back in time to, like, the 12-year-old me and say, one day, my son...
padawan you will walk around with all of these games in your fucking pocket you're gonna like look and i'll be like what that's nutty like your child's gonna how can that be real and yet your kids will be playing the playstation 6 and you're gonna look at them and be like yo this in 30 years you're gonna be playing this on the smallest handheld it's kind of war imagine what we're going to be doing in another 20 years i do imagine i do think that like oh we're gonna be losing all our job screen panels will be will go away there'll be some kind of

Chapter 6: What factors influence fan votes in game awards?
So the base model of the PlayStation 5 is 9.9 pounds. Yeah, I was going to say. So it's lighter than the OG PS3.
Oh. But again, I think weight to me is less interesting because once you've set it down somewhere, weight's irrelevant, right? It's not like you're carrying it around like a handheld. I'm talking about how much space, I think for a lot of people.
The PS5 I'll say is
I bet you a lot of people when they got their PlayStation 5 are like, fuck, where am I going to put this? Because usually you'd slot it into a little thing in your cabinet. It wouldn't fit into a lot of those slots. Yeah. Certainly not with enough ventilation around it, right? You also allow for some room around it for the thermal shit.
People are throwing out the 3DO out there. I don't know if I've seen a 3DO.
Well, it depends which model. There were various. 3DO was like an openly licensed technology that any manufacturer could make.
Yeah.
100%.
Yeah, I don't know how anything seriously challenges it.

Chapter 7: How does the community react to award nominations?
Yeah. And like, I think this is an interesting tone setter, I think, for the future award shows, right? Like the Game Awards and other stuff that's coming up because I predicted, I think Barrett or maybe Andy for like the Game Awards predictions predicted that Metaphority Fantasio is going to take the whole thing, take Game of the Year. Barrett's shrugging. I think it was maybe me and Andy.
Yeah, I think maybe you and Andy guessed that was going to be Game of the Year. I can actually pull it up because I think Tim saved all of the predictions somewhere.
Yeah, see if you can pull it up.
I'm still in the, like, I think it's split between Astro, Final Fantasy VII, and Metaphor.
Because now I'm like, oof, I might not have made the right decision as far as Metaphor taking Game of the Year.
But you also have to remember, for the golden joysticks... Almost all but four categories are voted on by the audience.
By fans, yes.
And the Game Awards is different, and I know a lot of people don't really know how that all works, but there is a fan vote for the Game Awards, which carries a 10% weight. of the full vote, most of the vote is weighted towards the games media industry.
The elite, the 1%.

Chapter 8: What makes a game deserving of Game of the Year?
Bellatro, yep.
But I can see it being nominated. I wouldn't nominate myself, but a nomination, I totally get. A win, that's where I'm like, all right, I guess. But I think when you're talking about something that is fan voted, I understand because this was one of, if not the most popular game of the year.
Okay, I'm not going to ask you what you think is the best game of the year or what should win. Of the games that are... in the mix, and it always ends up being like the same five, six, seven games, with a minor deviation between one awards ceremony and another, which overall winner do you think would cause the least controversy? Where people would just go, yeah, fair enough.
Astro Bot. I was going to say Astro Bot. Easily Astro Bot, yeah.
Because it's just a fucking video game.
It's just a great video game. You can't argue against it. And like, here's the thing, right? It's been fun following Game Awards reactions because there's been a particular reaction with Bellatro where it was announced as a Game Award nominee and a lot of people were like, oh, fucking card game? Oh, why would this be nominated over XYZ things? I haven't even heard of this game. It's bullshit.
It's the same bullshit applied to Vampire Survivors a couple years ago. But then days later, the same people will then come out and be like, hey guys, I played Bellatro. I've seen the light. Yeah, of course. Give somebody Bellatro and be like, hey, just play it. I'll give you an hour. Just play for an hour. Guess what? They're going to play for five hours.
They're going to come out of the cave and be like, oh, I get it.
This is why I generally keep my mouth shut around awards season because I very rarely... I've only played like... Of the five or six games that are nominated, I've only played a couple. So I can't say this does or doesn't deserve it because I haven't played the game. It's the same with everyone.
