Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

Andrew Schulz

Mon, 17 Mar 2025

Description

Andrew Schulz (Life, Schulz Saves America, Flagrant) is a comedian, actor, and podcaster. Andrew joins the Armchair Expert to discuss loving showing off his cha-cha at his mom’s ballroom dance studio, argue the significance of Alexander the Great being either Greek or Macedonian, and why after having a daughter there isn’t any gymnastics recital he doesn’t want to attend. Andrew and Dax talk about whether his confrontational style of comedy is rooted in his yearning to be liked, the fact that you can call him a lot of things but ignorant is not one of them, and breaking down the Kendrick Lamar beef. Andrew explains why he doesn’t worry whether his nuance is received or not because he knows his heart is good, that he’s learning it’s not worth explaining what you meant when what you said hurt people, and the response he’s gotten from other men after talking about the difficulty of getting pregnant onstage.Follow Armchair Expert on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. 02:09 - 02:23 Unknown Speaker

He's an object's world. Thank you.

0

02:27 - 02:29 Andrew Schulz

Hi. Hi.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Unknown Speaker

Hi, Monica.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Thanks for having me.

00:00 - 00:00 Monica Padman

Yes, of course. Did he warn you about my wrath?

00:00 - 00:00 Dax Shepard

In so many ways, yeah. Yeah, he said, I don't know what you said. You were like, can I come by? I got a special coming out. And I said, oh my God, I'd love to have you. But I also want you to know you're going to walk into some pushback. And you said, let's party. Yeah, which I appreciate. I think that makes it better.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Yeah. I do too. But don't go too soft on me. No, don't you worry. Okay. Okay.

Chapter 2: Why did Andrew Schulz face pushback for his comedy?

05:33 - 05:36 Dax Shepard

I don't care if I found out terrible stuff about Coke. I will not stop drinking Diet Coke.

0

05:36 - 05:46 Andrew Schulz

Is this trashy to do this? I've got a spray and a nicotine. I love that you were doing the nicotine binoco on the pod when you came over because I didn't understand what it was, but we got to feel something. All right. Anyway.

0

05:46 - 05:48 Dax Shepard

So tell me, I want to know all your things.

0

05:48 - 05:50 Andrew Schulz

I want to know all your things. I have a theory.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Monica Padman

Okay, sure.

00:00 - 00:00 Dax Shepard

You don't mind.

00:00 - 00:00 Monica Padman

I would love to hear your theory.

00:00 - 00:00 Dax Shepard

I'd like to have the standard approach we always do. Let's get to know Andrew as just a boy.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

Okay, here's my thing. Knowing in the back of my head that there's a thing. It's going to make you uneasy? I don't know if it's uneasy, but I'm almost just like, let's just get through what you think. Okay. And then we'll eventually get to.

Chapter 3: How did Andrew Schulz's upbringing influence his comedy style?

61:16 - 61:24 Andrew Schulz

I didn't get to go to these fancy-ass hotels as a kid. So if I'm going to, like, Amangiri, I'm not sharing that with you on some, like, look at my experience. I'm going, yo.

0

61:24 - 61:25 Dax Shepard

Figure out how to get here.

0

61:25 - 61:30 Andrew Schulz

Get some money and go here. This is incredible. These rich people are on to something, and we need to infiltrate.

0

61:33 - 61:37 Dax Shepard

Stay tuned for more Armchair Expert, if you dare.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

So when I saw that Taylor thing, and then it's always fun to just rile up on Brilliant Idiots. There's that part of me. It's like a little antagonistic. I know Taylor, who's on the show. She's not the biggest Taylor Swift fan. The girl Taylor is on Brilliant Idiots. So I knew just saying how amazing. It would rile her up. Yeah.

00:00 - 00:00 Monica Padman

Oh, it was so funny. And we were dying laughing at that.

00:00 - 00:00 Dax Shepard

So shout out Taylor. Okay. Life, your new standup special. Yes. It's your second one on Netflix.

00:00 - 00:00 Andrew Schulz

I did a rant show on Netflix. It was back during the pandemic shows as America, but that was a little different than standup. It was more like monologue version of it.

00:00 - 00:00 Dax Shepard

Okay. So right out of the gates, I hadn't noticed this prior to this, but you know, I've been in bed with Kutcher for 22 years. He gave me my start. Yeah. You and Ashton have an extremely similar vibe. Do people ever tell you look like him? Okay, here's the Kutcher story.

Chapter 4: What role does confrontation play in Andrew's comedy?

108:26 - 108:28 Monica Padman

That was, um, I was glad we had him on.

0

108:29 - 108:29 Dax Shepard

Oh yeah. Me too.

0

108:30 - 108:30 Monica Padman

Yeah.

0

108:30 - 108:31 Dax Shepard

All right. Love you.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Monica Padman

Love you.

00:00 - 00:00 Dax Shepard
