You know, I hate to do this because then it's like, but I really didn't do anything. But the feds were really upset with me and they violated my parole for not paying my taxes and stuff like that. And so they throw me back in and they said they were going to indict me for all sorts of cases. I'd never come out of prison alive and all of that. But they couldn't indict me on anything.

There was nothing out there. But they gave me four years on the violation, which was the maximum. And I spent 35 more months, which was maxing out. But it put me in a hole for 29 months and seven days. So I was in solitary all that time.

No, I think it was just, well, the Bureau of Prisons used that as an excuse. You're in there for your own protection. Because I didn't do anything wrong.

You know what? I would write the warden a letter every day. I had a yellow pad and a paper. Warden, let me out. I'm in Lompoc, California. There's no guys out here. I don't have to worry about anything. What were you doing out here? Well, because I had moved out here, so they sent me to prison.

Yeah, so they put me out here. You know, at least they did that so I can get some visits. But they kept me in there all that time. And it was during that time that I became a person of faith. I mean, I really studied the Bible. I studied all the other faiths. I had my wife send me in books on every faith. And I just came out of there, you know, Christianity really worked for me.

So that's when it... Was there a moment of clarity? There was a moment of... It was the first night that they locked me up because they told me at that time I'd never come out of prison. They were going to indict me on a murder case, they said. And I'm going to be honest with you, Dr. Drew, that was a night of real fear.

I said it was the first night in my life that I really felt out of control of everything. I was always a control guy. I can handle anything. Don't worry about it. I'll deal with it. But that night I had no answers. And so I said, man, I'm going to lose this girl. You know, I did all of this for her. She's 27 years old. Why would she wait for me? And I said, they can't put me on a yard.

I got everybody upset with me. I'm done, you know. And, you know, the thing for me that night, I had visited my dad over 20 years. I saw my family fall apart. I really felt that night. I just really wanted to close my eyes and just not wake up. I don't know if people can understand how painful it could be just to think about your situation.

It was probably the most pain I ever experienced in my life, just thinking about it. I said, I'm done. Why do you want to live? And I say this, I used to demean people that were suicidal. I said, you're weak. You can't face up to your troubles. After that experience, I don't do it anymore because I can understand.
