Chapter 1: What happened in the NBA Cup group play?
And, you know, again, this is it's the same old story for the Nuggets where Nikola Jokic, best player in the world, this ultimate rising tide. He just makes every single person on the court better for them. But at some point, man, these guys have got to step up around him. Michael Porter Jr. wound up scoring some points tonight and had a decent game.
Aaron Gordon probably had his first, his best game since he's been back, hit some shots. But you're big on bigs. Jokic, best in the world. But is that going to be enough when we get to the playoffs?
That's a great question. I don't know, especially with what this team looks like. It is very clear that everything, not just offense, even defense, everything runs through Jokic when he is on the floor. everything runs smoothly. This team was a negative 19 in the eight minutes on the bench. Yeah. You think this is early in the season.
Think about the next half of the year, the last quarter of the year, as you're trying to make it to the playoffs, he's going to need a little bit more rest and he's going to be tired and worn down. The team cannot be this tired. Deprived when he's not on the court. And that's what that's what scares me tonight. It was really Jokic versus the Warriors. He is an anomaly.
He is an eccentricity like he is not normal. I don't even know if he fits in the category of bigs. He's like, I don't know. He's got literally Godzilla is a great descriptor because that and then Godzilla with touch.
There we go. Guys, stick around. We got Marcus Thompson coming back on the show to hang out with me and Zeno to talk about the Warriors. You know our guest. He's been at The Athletic basically since The Athletic started. He helped build this very podcast. He's here to talk hoops directly. He writes books. He writes columns. He does a podcast, Warriors Plus Minus.
Marcus Thompson, welcome to the show. Of course, we cursed the Warriors and made them lose their fifth straight game and an NBA Cup game because that's what the NBA Daily does around here. You're not blaming me for that. No, it's our fault.
I'm blaming Buddy Hill missing wide open three.
Can we blame Steph's knees at all, do you think? No, Steph was fine. Steph was good. I thought he looked okay. You know, they were talking on the broadcast about, oh, you know, the new rotation and they've got to shorten it up. Well, Steve Kerr played 10 guys in the first 10 minutes, so... what did you think about the difference in the rotation tonight?

Chapter 2: Who are the favorites for the conference finals?
Vooch is going to destroy their defense. Period. That's going to happen. I'll take my chances with Loon and Draymond and being able to go on the other end and kind of operate. To me, I'm not against the Vooch. I like the Bulls. We've watched Vooch in the playoffs. This is Matadorian, right? He's going to be picked on. Picked on, for sure. No question.
To me, I like the idea, but they can't score in the fourth. That's the bottom line.
At what point do you incorporate play calling or timeouts and then being able to create something off a timeout from a Steve Kerr versus allowing them to play and try to develop something, which I thought was happening in the last parts of that game where Steve Kerr, you saw him rolling, let them play, like allowing them to continue rather than stopping the play and setting something up that they have found success with.
Right.
I do think the onus is greater on Steve because of the limited offensive options. Right. But I actually think their offense creates good looks like it does.
And it did tonight. It's true. He'll just make a shot.
I don't know what's going on. Had two wide open threes. He may one miss the second. Like that's, that's how it goes. I do think everything is exaggerated in their situation. For instance, Steph, You know, he drove three times, got three good, got a couple good shots out of it, got the dumping kick. But then he goes for the step back three, right?
Like in this situation, they just simply can't afford it. Like he has to make that shot. It's a killer. So to me, everything is magnified, including they have to draw perfect plays. But you know how this goes, man. You don't win in the NBA against good teams with plays, right?
You win with hoopers. With players. It don't matter. With gamers.
