If you were to change those holidays, people get morally appalled by this. They find this offensive that somebody would suggest making changes to those rituals. They're not supposed to change, even as they do change, because Thanksgiving actually in the past was moved. It was moved by a week earlier so that the holiday period would be extended and people would spend more money.
