The two defense chiefs also discussed enhancing joint presence in Japanese islets close to Taiwan.

Many Palestinians prayed among the rubble in Gaza City as most mosques in Gaza have been destroyed by Israeli strikes. For more than a month, Israel has blocked all aid, including food, to pressure Hamas to release more hostages.
And many Palestinians here spent Eid standing in lines waiting for bread. Majda Abu Amra says the hardest part of Eid this year is losing many of her loved ones in the war. This is an Eid of hurt, troubles, pain and disaster. Israel returned to war almost two weeks ago, killing more than 800 Palestinians. Anas Baba, NPR News, Gaza City.
And you're listening to NPR News from Washington. For those who ever struggle to find just the right word, the Oxford English Dictionary could help. Robbie Griffiths reports it's added a series of words from other languages, some with no direct English equivalent.
These words might not sound instantly familiar, but they were added to the Oxford English Dictionary last week, with origins in countries around the world. Gigil is a word to describe the feeling when something is so cute that it gives us the irresistible urge to pinch or squeeze whatever it is we find so adorable.

In all, the 42 new words range from around the globe, with others added from Malaysia and Singapore, South Africa and Ireland.
