Chapter 1: What listener questions are addressed in this episode?
Thank you.
Hello, everyone, and welcome to this week's episode of Mastering Dungeons, your favorite tabletop role playing game, game design, tabletop podcast and stuff and explosions and fireworks and Teos Abadieh and Sean Merwin. Hey, Teos, what's going on?
Oh, I just got back from being at Santa Clara University. I had a lot of fun. I drove grandparents around. I had a
amazing amazing time seeing my son i don't know what they put in the water there uh or maybe it's the sunshine because boy the weather was glorious but uh my son was like super mature and like feels like he's aged 10 years and and all in good ways it was a blast was blessing his friends so that was just completely lovely my heart is full now i'm back home facing the realities here
In gray, wet, flood prone, flood warnings. Yeah. Yeah.
So, I mean, we're only talking like a few hours difference, right? Yeah.
In terms of... Let this be a world-building guide to everybody out there, because it is hilarious how different the weather is. Yeah. The flight is an hour and a half, right? It's just great.
Okay, so it's not far at all. Wow, that's amazing. I'm staring out at... I don't know what layer of hell is the cold, frozen one, but that's where I'm at right now. I live right on the shores of Lake Erie, and yesterday and the day before, people were walking out onto the lake, and I'm thinking they're gonna fall through, there's no doubt. Little Stygian action. Yes, yes.
It's frozen as far out as I can see because they walked out that far. And so, you know, we've got that going for us. And we've also got a lot going for us in terms of our listeners. In fact, we have so much going on in terms of our listeners that we are going to take today in our main segment to go through our listener corner because we are about 20

Chapter 2: How did Hasbro perform in Q4 of 2024?
Tell us what's in store, what was in store for Hasbro in quarter four.
Yeah, well, stop me if you heard this before, but for the fourth quarter, there was a decline in total Hasbro revenue. Really? Who would have thought? Who would have thought? And boy, I have said this now so many times, but I'm so excited for the day. I don't have to think and read the piece that talks about how, you know, adjusted for the E1 sale. Like, I don't know how people milk this thing.
I am not an accountant. I'm not a tax expert. None of this. But somehow this sale of E1 just keeps being an explanation for something. I guess it's better than them blaming the movie that is so dear to my heart. But yeah. Yeah, they had a 15% decline in Q4 for total Hasbro revenue. For the year, they're down 17%.
And so this, you know, as usual, because this is the fourth quarter, the last quarter in the year, right? We're talking about 2024 Q4. We're talking about how then we can also look at the whole year. It's not year to date. It's a whole year of 2024 that we can now look at. So you'll see both of these things, Q4 and the year. So Wizards of the Coast in Q4 is down 7%.
And this is explained solely before we jump into theories. This is explained solely on the Hasbro side, mind you, by the fact that they released one fewer Magic the Gathering set. It's lifted up by the rest of Wizards, including Monopoly Go revenue being higher than forecasted.
um i'll go ahead and said the spoiler first sean which you know you're you're probably wondering like hey what did they say about you know dnd 2024 and that new edition and all that surely they mentioned that uh but i know you know sean that uh it was back to normal with no mention during the kind of official release the slide deck that sort of stuff
It was briefly mentioned along with other brands in terms of like the logo being shown. And, you know, of course, in the lines, they break it out because it is one of those main brands that they have. But there was no mention of, you know, and due to Wizards, you know, releasing Dungeons and Dragons 2024. Now, that never came up.
because it's tiny right it's not like i mean what's interesting is how different magic is right one fewer set and boom you know this we didn't have a lord of the rings out there so therefore this is totally different Now, that's not all bad. We'll get into that more. For the year, Wizards does have some good news.
There are additional good news, I'd say, because we've heard some other good news in the last quarters. But Wizards is up 4% for the year in revenue. Given all the tough times, that's good news.
