Chapter 1: What is the PlayStation State of Play in June about?
I'd love a hot take.
I don't think it matters if it's a state of play or a PlayStation showcase. Yeah. The way this news hits me is, of course, we're getting something. I think the fact that it's June, it's like, all right, cool. We're not usually getting the end of May thing that we get from PlayStation every year. But PlayStation has not missed the beat for a summer season.
It's either a State of Play or a PlayStation Showcase, but they've always been able to hit that May to June timeframe. I think, more often than not, the State of Plays have been fairly impressive, even compared to some of the PlayStation Showcases. Of course, PlayStation Showcases usually mean you're getting more first-party announcements, and so we have that level of anticipation.
But the last big State of Play we got, they announced Soros, the follow-up to Returnal. So they're not above announcing first-party stuff at a State of Play. But a state of play means you're not getting a Naughty Dog game. You're not getting a... Sure, but that could still happen at a summer game fest. We've seen Naughty Dog stuff pop up there. And then also, I believe it was the last showcase.
Was it the showcase where we got Concord and Marathon and Fair Games and it was fucking trash? I don't want to say trash. It was not good.
It was the wrong tone to set and it has blown up in their face repeatedly. Yeah.
And so I look at this and honestly think like I've been of this mind for a while that, that I think when it comes to, are we going to do a state of play? Are we going to do a showcase? It really is PlayStation freestyling and going, all right, how, what is the level of pomp and circumstance that we want to launch this thing with?
And more often than not, I think that pomp and circumstance gets a bit overblown as far as leveling up people's expectations and then people being disappointed at the end of the day.
Sure. Of course. I think, yeah, I think if you, the, If you're going to do a showcase, it needs to be, here is the next year, year and a half, two years, three years of PlayStation Studios, like what we're talking about. Here's what Ben's doing. Here's what Santa Monica's doing. Here's this. Here's these gigantic announcements we want to make, hardware changes, whatever it's going to be, right?

Chapter 2: What are the details of the Elden Ring movie adaptation?
I love that. I let you cook. I agree with you on Fallout Last of Us. I think that was a conversation we had at the review of Fallout, the TV show.
I think this is the best video game adaptation because, again, the way the stim packs look exactly, it's happening in the same world of Fallout, and they do such a great job of bringing that to the screen, but not robbing you of the agency of it, making you feel like I'm watching someone's Fallout journey, not losing mine, whereas Last of Us is watching the game again, right?
Even down to the lines and repeating them as they say them or whatever.
which is fun and great and I like it but you know different I think I push back on you saying Elden Ring is going to make so much money as a movie movies are so hard I mean games are hard too but movies are so hard to call the ball and nail of course as we've talked about so many times on this show even this announcement take with a grain of salt until you have the first thing of them with the clacker going it's day one of the shoot I don't believe a fucking video game movie is happening until it happens
What then gets interesting is – and somebody else in the chat had my exact same thought as it went through, right? Like, Alex Garland doesn't make blockbusters. Now, that's not to say this couldn't be. It's not to say whatever, blah, blah, blah.
And then it's also – and this is my own personal preference and bias coming in of, like, if I'm sitting in a theater watching the trailer for Elden Ring, the name doesn't resonate with me. Sure, George Railroad Martin does. Okay, maybe. But it's, like, game of the year, and I'm watching it, like – And I know I'm going to piss off every Vati video fan out there.
As somebody who doesn't understand the story of any of the Souls games or whatever, I struggle to... And I'm just stupid and very weak-willed and small-minded. Of what the story would be in a narrative sense of what you're being told of why you're on this. And I know that's like... their job to then sell me on it and show me why.

Chapter 3: How does Blessing feel about the Elden Ring movie?
But I think of a mainstream person in there, is it going to look enough like Lord of the Rings that you're going to go, oh, George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones, oh my God, you're going to... Man, I don't know.
I mean, I think that's what it would have to be, right? It would have to be like a fucked up Lord of the Rings, given what the setting of Elden Ring is. I think...
I jump in on the point of... Let's just stop for a second.
I'm sorry.
What the fuck is going on in Elden Ring? Oh, man. It's been a year since... I'm a maidenless tarnished and I've been dropped and there's a whole... There was a ring.
I could have told you the story of Elden Ring like a year ago when I was fresh off of watching all the VatiVid stuff. If I were to recap it for you here, I would fucking butcher the hell out of it. But yeah, like it involves a lot of royalty and like a lot of fucking magic.
And like, yeah, you're a tarnished that you're essentially like kind of hired by one of the people that are one of the top dogs or whatever. But you don't really know that coming in. But you're coming in to like take out the Elden Lord and become the Elden Lord. I don't know, man. It's a lot. It's a lot of weird shit that honestly, I think if anybody as far as.
a studio coming in and making an Elden Ring movie makes sense. I think A24 makes sense because they make weird shit like that. I think I said this on a previous episode that I think you're going to have to lean into what they did with something like Green Knight, where Green Knight is another movie from A24 that was this fantasy, a dude is going on an adventure, and the plot is very not...
as I guess traditional would be the way I put it, right? Like it is, it is kind of a weird slash hard movie to follow. And it's more about like kind of the experiences that he's having along the way that informs like what his character is going through and who he is and what, and all that stuff. It paints the vastness of his fantasy world by like zooming into a specific character story.
