Chapter 1: What is the main topic of this episode?
Welcome to another episode of the Keep It Positive Sweeties show, a safe space where we heal, laugh, grow and love together. I'm your host, Chris Renee Hazlett. And in this episode, we sit down with the dynamic Shamia Morton Mwangi, renowned for her multifaceted career in entertainment
This is an inspiring conversation that offers a deeper look into the life of a woman who seamlessly balances the demands of the spotlight with personal fulfillment because she is more than a housewife. Before we get into the episode, let's take a look into Crystal's closet. All right, guys, let's get into today's look. I am wearing a matching set by Max Marr Sport.
I'm wearing an aloe tank and I paired it with these beige Givenchy shark boots. Get into it. Shamia Morton Mwangi exudes energy from her vibrant presence on The Real Housewives of Atlanta to her infectious personality while hosting V103's Morning Show and the high energy she brings to hosting the Atlanta Hawks games and any red carpet.
I'm super excited to dive into her journey from leading her church choir at the tender age of four to becoming the most exciting multi-hyphenate talents while balancing motherhood, marriage, and career. Ladies and gentlemen, Shamia Morton Mwangi. Hey, best friend. Hey, best friend. I gotta hug you. Oh, my gosh.
Chapter 2: How did Shamea Morton start her career?
I'm excited.
I'm excited to have you. I just... First of all, I just love you. Your energy is always electric. From the day I met you, you've been so sweet and kind. And you always invite me and include me and stuff. You never forget about me, even though I'm, like, extremely busy. You know how you, like...
invite people places and then they they're never available like why gonna invite me anymore that is not shamia you always keep me in mind because i always want your bright light around me like you have such a magnetic positive energy which is why you're the name of this show is so perfect when i first heard about kids i was like oh my goodness what a great name thank you like you just exude this
joy and this God in you. And it's so contagious. And it's something that you always want to be around. So thank you for never forgetting about me.
No, of course.
Like, you know, sometimes when people blow up and they do a big thing and they do a big one, it's like, oh, hey.
Oh, yeah, no, we're not doing that.
You never give that energy.
No.

Chapter 3: What challenges did Shamea face in her career journey?
Listen, I'm just trying to be like you, best friend. I love the fact that, you know, we are women that aren't,
place in a box yes we can do multiple things yeah and you know multiple things bring in multiple streams come on hello that's always fortunate thing but it's crazy because like how all of this stuff came about i started out just being a girl that loved to sing in the sun being choir at the church of god in christ okay went from there to just my show was boring and they were like okay well you can't you got you can't just stand there and say you got to give us a little bit more oh wow can you
move a little, so my parents put me in ballet, jazz.
Same.
We had so much in common. Yeah, exactly. And then from there, I got a part in the movie Drumline, where I was a dancer, and then it just continued. I was like, I saw that check, and I was like... Oh, I can do this. Hold on a second. You get paid this kind of money just to act?
I was like...
Let me get into some acting classes, because what? Found up for the Alliance Theater's acting classes.
Amazing.
Then I came this close to getting a part over with Mr. Perry. I auditioned and got the Have and Have Nots play.

Chapter 4: How does Shamea manage motherhood and career?
We are always naturally going to be somewhat doubtful. And when I was younger, you used to hear like, don't you question God. But sometimes you get frustrated and you're like, well, what's happening? What's my purpose? What do you really want me to do? You always say, you know, pray that your will be done. Well, what's in your will? Am I doing it right? I mean, what are my steps already?
I'm getting impatient, you know?
And then just when you start to just be like, all right, I'm over it. He steps in and he just shows you like, all right, I told you to trust me. Now you trust me.
I love it.
Yeah. So, you know, I'm doing the show this season. I'm excited about that. I feel like my life is just taking, I think I'm taking control of it and I'm actually manifesting and speaking those things that I want.
Speaking of manifesting, you just recently manifested a big, I think, feat that you want to accomplish. You want to share that with us?
I almost feel like that might have backfired a little bit. Might have went a little bit too far. So I'm not a liar, guys. I was just really manifesting. So I put it on my page that I'm like live from the 67th annual Grammys. It's the biggest night in music. And I'm your host, Shamia Morton, alongside my co-host Trevor Noah.
I know that's right. Speak it.
Everybody started calling me like, oh my God.

Chapter 5: What is Shamea's experience with surrogacy and fertility?
And Candy used Shadina for her daughter Blaze. And during that process, I was there to witness her do the injections. And I didn't even know that I needed a surrogate or anything. I was just like, I'll get pregnant one day. And then it was like, because I had Shia the natural way.
Yeah.
So I was like, oh, yeah, you know, we'll get pregnant. It'll be easy. Then it wasn't. It was like failed, failed after failed. So my doctor was like, it's unexplained. Like, I don't even know why. Just go and talk to a fertility clinic. And so that's how we came about Shadeed. I was like, hey, she has an agency. OK. So I was like, why don't you just carry the baby? We're comfortable with you.
You're in the circle already. Yeah. Just because she was like, what? So she did. She got diagnosed with breast cancer, unfortunately. And she was at 32 weeks when she got diagnosed. And it was an aggressive form of breast cancer. Oh my goodness. When I tell you, I'm always like, is this like a movie? I'm like, is this really happening? She got diagnosed with breast cancer.
Since it was aggressive, they were like, we can't, we gotta like, we gotta go and take Shiloh. So I think Shiloh came five weeks early. And she came on Valentine's Day. It's like she's my love baby. And what was crazy is I was supposed to be at All Star, because All Star is always that week. It was in Utah that year. And I was like, well, I'm going to have to figure this out. She came.
She was crying. We were all rejoicing. And then she stopped crying and started turning blue.
Whoa. Yes.
And I was like, oh my goodness. And they rushed her to the ICU. Next time I saw my baby, she had been intubated and was on a breathing machine. Yeah. I was like, oh my goodness. Then it's so crazy how like social media helps you at times. There is power in that because she was there right at a week on the ventilator.
Yeah.

Chapter 6: How did Shamea navigate her daughter's health challenges?
So she would eventually have to have that procedure at six months of age to open her skull up so that she can have normal brain growth.
Yes.
But the first thing was keeping her alive by opening up her nasal passages. Yes. So they opened it up, and that was called a craniosynostosis, and I'm sorry, it was coanal atresia and coanal stenosis of the nose. That's when you have tissue and boning blocking both nasal passages. This was craniosynostosis. So they opened up her nose, and just like scar tissue, it wants to form and heal.
It closed right back up. She had to keep going back. It was like every four weeks she was going back to the OR for another surgery. My girl has had... 14 surgeries. 14, Shamia? Yes. And she is still such a happy girl. Yes. Such great energy. I mean, when I tell you, like, we do a family photo shoot and she's like, like the star. Yes.
And, you know, and so that's why I say, like, God just has a way, like, from head to toe. That, this, heart murmur, fluid buildup in her. Kidney, the tendons in both middle fingers were tight. She had club feet. She had all the things. And I was just like, and it was like, I just had to deal with it one thing at a time. It's almost like when you make a to-do list.
I had to like, so I didn't want to be overwhelmed. And sometimes I would just need to just remove myself from it for even an hour or two because any NICU moms y'all know like when you're by your bedside by your child it just it can drain you and when you don't have energy your child doesn't have energy I needed her to have a will to live yes you know and a desire and a good energy around her so
oftentimes I would leave and go to the Hawks game and work.
Yeah, because I feel like you never skipped a beat.
I was like, why are you at the game? And I'm like, I need this.
