Chapter 1: What is the theme of this Listener Stories episode?

00:00 - 00:10 Macy

Hi, Ghosties. I'm Macy. And I'm Natalie. And for episode 91, we have another Listener Stories episode, a themed Listener Stories. And you don't know the theme today.

0

00:10 - 00:22 Natalie

I don't. But 91. I know we're getting so close to 100. That makes me. We have something special planned for 100. Well, special to us. You might like it. I hope. I mean. We like it. We have fun. But we're not giving that away yet.

0

00:23 - 00:28 Macy

We will let you know. For today, our Listener Story episode theme is Appalachia.

0

00:29 - 00:34 Natalie

Oh, my God. Comment down below. Tell her how wrong she is on saying that. Please tell us now.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

I'm begging you. Rage. We had a lot of fun telling these stories. I had a lot of fun researching the stories in the first place for the first episode. Yes. And it did really well. So I assume most of you like these kinds of stories. That was like our most our best performing episode.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

So our typical episodes, I think, get like 20,000, 30,000, maybe 20 on average. Yeah. This one has like 300 plus thousand views. Oh, my God. Which freaks me out because that many eyes have seen a video of ours. Yeah. So it did well. We assumed because it did well, you all would like more.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

And we had no shortage of people like you sending us stories of your time in Appalachia. And that could be anywhere.

00:00 - 00:00 Unidentified

I'm excited.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

South to north. Like I said, the mountains go all the way up. So I didn't discriminate. And it's fitting that I look like a creature today. You do not.

Chapter 2: What spooky story does Sam share from Appalachia?

01:46 - 02:15 Natalie

I'll never forget Brandy, but let's go. That's good. Tastes like a s'more. I like it. Dude, we had s'mores the other day. I have been craving them every single day since. They're so good. So good. But I don't have like a gas stove and I have to go buy that gas stuff to light my little... Just get like one of those lighters, you know, like those long like little switch lighters.

0

02:15 - 02:35 Macy

Oh. And just roast your little marshmallow over your tiny little fire. That would feel so sad. Anyway. Okay. Listener stories. from Appalachia. First one, from Sam. Hi Ghosties, my name is Sam. I am a newcomer to the Ghosties YouTube channel and I love watching your podcast. I have had a few strange encounters myself and have also witnessed some things I can't explain.

0

02:35 - 02:53 Macy

However, one experience I've been a part of will always give me chills until my last day. When I was younger, around Christmas time in the late 1990s, my mother took me and my younger brother to see our great aunt and uncle in Martinsville, Virginia, deep in part of the Appalachian Mountains. We were meeting my aunt, my mother's sister, and two of my older cousins there as well.

0

02:53 - 03:12 Macy

For the sake of this video, we will name my aunt Catherine and my two other cousins Dana and Mallory, Dana being the oldest cousin around 11 years old at the time, then Mallory around 10, and I couldn't have been but 8 or 9 years old. From our house to Martinsville, we had to take a winding mountain road past Lover's Leap, a spot off the road with a huge cliff drop-off.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

There is a sign posted at the lookout point stating, quote, The name Lover's Leap comes from a local legend about two lovers, a beautiful young Penobscot girl and a white settler, who were forbidden to be together. I'm so sorry if I said that name wrong. Unable to bear the burden of a life without each other, they leapt to their deaths sometime in the distant past.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

This doesn't have much to do with the story I'm about to tell you, but now that you know the history of Lover's Leap, if you didn't already, you know I was already weary of the entire trip once my mother told us the lore, and pulled us over to let us see the plunging drop. Nevertheless, we got back in the vehicle and continued to our relative's house.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

Upon arriving, my Aunt Catherine, Dana, and Mallory were already there, unpacking the vehicle and exploring the property. Dana tells me that according to our relatives, the movie The Blair Witch Project was filmed in the woods behind this house. I later found out that this was completely false, but again, this did not help to ease my mind before sleeping here for the weekend.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

I think your family was just really trying to freak you out with first the lover's leap. Stop. And the talk of the two people plunging to their deaths. And then also, did you know the Blair Witch Project was filmed here? There's spookiness going on right behind this house.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

I feel like that's such an older cousin thing to do. Oh, yeah. Freak out your younger cousins or siblings and things like that.

Chapter 3: What encounter did Kai have in a haunted farmhouse?

09:51 - 10:02 Macy

This is only one of the incidents I've experienced here at my house. I hope you enjoy this story of my encounter. I enjoy your videos very much and wish you luck with your podcast. Stay safe and spooky and take care.

0

10:02 - 10:09 Natalie

Thank you. This is, we've talked about this before. How many times have police or just emergency services in general been called?

0

10:09 - 10:09 Macy

Yes.

0

10:10 - 10:12 Natalie

for a spirit or for something that's not really there.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

We have a listener who works as a 911 operator and they said that they were going to like go look for stories with their coworkers and stuff. Send it now. She might have. I haven't, I haven't looked. Oh my gosh. I'm so into that. Hat man, doll awake, question mark. Because some people will say, okay, so there is the hat man that has like the, like, you know, the wider brimmed hat.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

It's kind of like an old Western-y hat. That's what I envision. But there are some people who say like he's wearing a fedora or some other type of hat. So I don't know. But he was also doing like wide awake playing. Yeah.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

Didn't have any connections to sleep. That's not the vibe I get. And since it is such an old house, I just imagine this is just someone that lived there, someone that worked there, you know. What was it doing with the dog kennel?

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

Was it checking that it couldn't get out, that it wasn't going to get chased or barked?

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

What if it was just like, is it going to get chased or barked at? Maybe they were just like, hello, doggy. Hey, nutmeg. Yeah. I love the name nutmeg, by the way. That's really cute.

Chapter 4: How did Kristen experience paranormal activity near a graveyard?

19:34 - 19:54 Macy

I've heard of like, if your skin stays longer, then you need more water. Like if you pinch your skin, and if it doesn't bounce back immediately, then you're dehydrated. I don't know how true it is, but I've heard that before. Fast forward to me moving into my dad's house and my stepmom's house, and a quick Google search would show you that it was built in the 1800s, which is yikes.

0

19:54 - 20:08 Macy

There were so many things that went on in that house. There would be footsteps coming up and down from the attic, names being called when no one was there, and apparitions. My sister still lives in that house, so I asked them if some of the stuff still happens, and they said that the footsteps still happen, but nothing else does.

0

20:08 - 20:26 Macy

When my grandmother, my stepmother's mom, was alive, she was disabled. Hard of hearing and amazing. That's not the point. But she would be needing help on and off the toilet, on and off her bed or chair, whatever. So I would be the only one home sometimes with her and help her out. Before she passed, she decided to visit her kids in the Philippines because she's Filipino.

0

20:27 - 20:42 Macy

And one day while she was gone, I heard my name being called from her bathroom. Her calling me to help her. Keegan, help! I started running down the stairs and as soon as I got to the middle of the stairs, my name stopped being called. But if you remember from the beginning of this... She was hard of hearing, so she wouldn't have stopped calling my name until she saw me.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

I stopped in the middle of the stairs and slowly went back up, put on my headphones and pretended that nothing happened. So the name calling stopped. They stopped because they're like, wait a second. She wouldn't even know that I was coming. Then realized she's not even in the country.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

Okay, Keegan, good for you. You are braver than I am, braver than I would ever be, braver than us all. Go upstairs and put the headphones on. I'm jumping out the nearest window and just hoping to survive, hoping to land somewhere nice. Oh, yeah, that's really scary. Is that dramatic or is that valid?

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

Oh, it's definitely dramatic. Kind of valid. I don't know. Depends on what's down there.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

I just can't imagine. And the people that live in Appalachia, Appalachia, whatever you want to call it, they are strong as soldiers. They are going to be at the front lines because, oh, I heard something terrifying. That could be something that's out to get me. Let me just pretend it didn't happen. I'll just go back to my room, sit and wait it out. Good for you. Good for you. Those were spooky.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

For sure. I don't think any type of mimicky type story will ever sit right with me. Not be scary for you.

Chapter 5: What eerie tales does Keegan recount from an old house?

29:58 - 30:22 Natalie

I could have lived with any other answer or saying like, oh, she's in the closet and she wants to play or she's in the closet and she wants to hurt you. She likes to crawl. First of all, who is this? Who is this girl? I don't know. I don't like this high school girl. No, I mean the one that's seeing this weird, quote unquote, weird girl. She's someone we need to find out.

0

30:22 - 30:25 Natalie

We need to find out where she is now. I could never recover.

0

30:25 - 30:31 Macy

I could never recover. I like that her husband stayed there in the middle of the night. She's like, now do you believe me?

0

30:31 - 30:31 Natalie

Dude.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

I like that they were like, okay, this is enough. We're not staying here anymore. We're going to sleep on the floor in another house. I'm frightened. Is there a word beyond frightened? Because that's how I feel.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

What is the most extreme word for fear? Kerfuffle. No, I'm just kidding.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

The word terror is often used to describe the most extreme degree of fear. I think terror doesn't even dread.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

I need something stronger. Something with more of an emphasis on how I feel.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

The sickness?

Chapter 6: How did Megan's childhood room become haunted?

50:23 - 50:34 Natalie

The actual house. Why are we doing mimics? Oh, I guess we're in the mimic territory. Yeah. I literally was just thinking like, man, why are there so many mimic stories? But that's kind of where we get all of them.

0

50:34 - 50:54 Macy

There's a lot of mimics or seems to be so in this region. Why? I don't know. So I'm just riffing here. Okay. Part of me feels like it's just like ancient land and there's just some weird energy about it. And it's, I don't know, a weird like mirror to the world. I don't know. I don't know. That's just what I'm envisioning. That's just what came to me. That's a lot.

0

50:54 - 50:57 Natalie

Yeah. Sorry. Sorry. I mean, sorry if this is weird.

0

50:58 - 50:59 Macy

It's just what I was thinking.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

A little bit. I'm following a little bit.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

It just has something to do with the land and just the energy there. But why is it trying to... It's like taking on a life of its own. Yeah, why is it trying to mimic the people now?

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

Because that's what it's seen more recently, I guess. I don't know. What it's learned.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

That feels very ominous to say. I don't know. I feel like the land learns and grows with us and knows us. I don't know. Are we getting too weird? Are we getting too off the path? No, I'm with you. Okay.

00:00 - 00:00 Natalie

Probably. But you know I'm with you. I'm sure we'll hear it if we are. And I'm fine with that.

Chapter 7: What paranormal activities did Jay experience in an old church-turned-house?

63:44 - 64:02 Macy

Her top entertainment system was a radio with headphones she'd carry around listening to gospel music. One day, when I was little, I had done something I wasn't supposed to— I stole a bit of my brother's change to use at school the next day. I did this home alone at my house. Later, I walked to her house without the change. Still no one home but me and her.

0

64:02 - 64:10 Macy

She stopped me at the door and said, be still. She looked into my eyes for a few seconds and says, I know what you did. I see it in your eyes. Return it.

0

64:10 - 64:22 Natalie

This is so me. I want to be a granny witch. I want to be this. I've said it before. I do not feel like I am a mother. I feel like I'm meant to be a grandmother. And that's it.

0

64:22 - 64:40 Macy

I want to live off my intuition and know all the home remedies. And I want to be an Appalachian granny witch. Same. That sounds like an actual dream. Anyway, I returned it the second I went home. She had funny little sayings like, be careful. I see and hear everything you do. That made us laugh until it was true.

0

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

One day, me and my brother were being babysat by her and she was nearly deaf at this point. However, we were smart kids and tried to fight by whispering. so she never had to come and settle our childish disputes. But this never worked. She'd always walk in and repeat exactly what we had just said, and nothing got past her.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

When she was older, she had dementia, so sometimes we'd try to shield her from the bad news. Like once a family member passed away and we decided to keep it from her since her condition was not great. That is, until she told us about it.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

she said she knew it passed and once my mother broke her ankle at work we again decided not to tell her so we don't worry her with unnecessary things she looked at my sister and said tell your mama i hope her ankle is okay and that she can tell me things none of it ever made any sense how she knew all this stuff but i will say i've never had someone's presence make me feel so comforted and protected as hers did i used to make her sit beside me in the playroom and i just felt like if she was near bad things weren't she had the most comforting energy of anyone i've ever met

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

Something was different about her and I so strongly want to know what it is. It seems that it wasn't just her. Sometimes I get these strong gut feelings or things I just know and it always seems true. Like sometimes I'll avoid a certain road and there will be a wreck, etc. I think whatever gifts she had, we shared with my family, just not quite as strong as hers.

00:00 - 00:00 Macy

Hope you at least enjoy reading these. They are all 100% true. So they sent us another email. okay first though love granny i know i know i'm obsessed i think that's beautiful that you had a granny like that and a connection like that me too i love i love a good comforting person someone that you just know nothing bad can get you if they're around it's always a
