Yeah, I was going to take care of my son in a different way. Okay. Okay. I wanted her to be able to do what she wanted. I thought I'd go first. I was 11 years older than she was. And it just worked out that I lowered my objections. She intended to update her will. I candidly thought she had done so. Okay. And that's my answer.

No, it was quite the contrary. She made quite a point about having no relatives. And she was almost like a waif. And she, again, never knew her father. She had serious conflict with her mother and her brother. And when both of them, the brother died first and the mother died a couple of years later. I virtually insisted to go to the funeral. I thought that was a respectful thing to do.

Her mother's funeral? Yes, the mother's funeral. And the brother was mentally retarded. That's all I knew from her. But she wouldn't go. And she used to almost laugh about it in social situations that it was just her. And I'd come along and plucked her out of the herd. She didn't have any relatives at all. Candidly, I think she was afraid they would all come asking for money. Really?

We went through an area, I could describe my familiarity with it, but we went through an area I thought that was particularly dangerous. At night, I'd seen police vehicles there. It's a route I take from my office to her office. And I see police vehicles there with the blue lights on, and they're doing things with the vehicle that are there. Are there landmarks or anything? It was an underpass.

It was very dark, but it seemed to me it was, and that's one that has a particularly high population. at least in the daytime. But at night, there were a lot of people there. And I quickly said, this is a big mistake, and we're in a place that we don't belong. And of course, here we are in an almost new SUV and two women in the front seat.

They made a couple of turns, and things were not going well. And I said, we'll be on Piedmont shortly. And I said, yeah, I'd like to, if you don't mind. seems to be a gun. And so I, in response to that, I had wrapped my gun in a Publix grocery sack. So if you open the console, you have no clue what you're looking at. Flashlights and stuff like that.

So Diane reaches in, pulls it out, hands it back to me. And by then we may have been on Piedmont. that kind of area. Right. And I guess I just laid back again and went to sleep. Okay. Um, Danny Joe came to a stop and uh, anyway I just It was just time to wake up. But she came to a stop and I was handling the gun. I didn't realize it was in my lap. Right.

What do you remember after the gunshot? I immediately called out. I said, is everybody all right? And Danny Joe said yes. Diane, her head was kind of slanted. She said, I've been shot. Words to that effect. And I immediately put my arms around her and tried to determine what was, how bad it was.
