Oh, it sounds like a basic question, Jay. But honestly, the answer to this is one of the things that makes Survivor my favorite show. Kyle can say, Kevin hurt his shoulder. He's worked his ass off. I'm going to help him because it's the right thing to do. But But the second Jeff says, welcome to Survivor 48, until he reads the final vote to crown the winner, the game never stops for a second.

And so as a player, you can make a decision to act out of the kindness of your heart. You can say it's outside of the bounds of the game and you can mean that. But every decision that is made impacts the game. Therefore, it is gameplay, whether you intend it to be or not.

Yeah, I mean, I think Joe has all the good intentions about Eva, right? And I am not saying... I'm not taking a cynical point of view at all. Like, it also made me emotional. I feel like this is an amazing relationship. But I think that still... Joe's relationship with Eva certainly impacts the game. And therefore, no matter the intention behind it, it is still gameplay.

We are still playing Survivor. And I think that that's what makes Survivor so compelling is you can have these very human moments. You can have these really real relationships, but you're still in the framework of Survivor, the game. And that is so interesting.

Yeah. In the early days, it's so tricky. You know, everybody is on high alert and you need to make the idle hunting as organic as possible. So you offer to go fill up all the water bottles or collect firewood or go get coconuts and it will take you a while and it will buy you some time. But when you return, you better have the water bottles filled or some coconuts in hand.

You need to build a believable backstory that gives you the benefit of the doubt. Like there will always be people suspecting that you're doing something. But if you have trust with a few people, they will generally buy into your story as long as you're not being sloppy or super suspicious.

Well, to be fair, my idol, I had a clue for. So when I went idol hunting, which I did many times, I never found an idol. So a lot of staring at bark. A lot of sticking your hands in crevices that have bugs and leaves and spider webs. And it's gross.

Yeah, I think it's sort of a hierarchy of needs situation. Maybe it's Jeff Groves hierarchy of needs. I think if you feel like you're someone that might be at risk of going home in the first tribal council, the game is anybody but me. You should be willing to do pretty much anything, write anybody's name down to get out of that spot and be here tomorrow.

But if you believe you're in a more comfortable position on the tribe, you should definitely be thinking strategically about what is best for you moving forward.

Yeah, you know, it's so situational, Jay. It feels like a bad answer. But I feel like you could be on a tribe that is very low key, that you really have to kind of sit on your hands to not draw attention and a target on yourself. You could also be on a tribe that has a lot of people doing a lot of things and you can get away with a lot more or a hybrid of those two things.

And maybe you can see that as an opportunity to take the leadership role here or step back and let other people kind of self implode. Mm hmm.

Yeah. I mean, you know, we talk about luck a lot as an element on Survivor. And there's these overt things like a rock draw, for instance. But there's these very subtle things that you don't really think about, which are who is on your starting tribe? Will you get along with them? Like, will you have things in common with them? And Stephanie made the wrong read.

And maybe she would have never been able to gain momentum on the starting tribe. Maybe it was just the wrong group of people for her. And that's what makes it so hard. The tapestry. The tapestry. Yeah.

Yeah. I'll never forget. You said when I was asked to be the alternate, you said you just didn't fit into the tapestry of the season. And I was very confused by that and probably a little frustrated, too. But I feel like I get it now, though. I understood when I was watching season 46 how that wasn't necessarily the tapestry I fit into.

And season 47 was even when aside was definitely more of the vibe of the feeling that I believed I fit into. Yeah. Perfect.

Yeah, I think Jeff spoke a lot to the motivation, you know, already. But I think that as far as I would always send in my tape and I would hear this advice and it would be like, just be yourself. And I'm like, who else could I be, Jeff? Like that is the most frustrating thing to hear. But I think now that I'm on the other side of it, I do understand it a little bit better.

Like my first few videos, they were scripted. I had them memorized. It was like reciting a checklist of things about myself. Like don't ever do that. That's just a bad idea. And Survivor is narrated by the people who play this insane game. And we want to know more than just what is happening out there.

We want to get to know the people going through their journey on Survivor through the way they speak, like showing that you can do that with stories in your everyday life feels like, you know, correct me if I'm wrong, Jeff, but it feels like a natural lead in to being cast on the show.

Oh my gosh. Okay. I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie and there is just no match to the adrenaline you get when you are on a challenge on Survivor. It's simultaneously the most terrifying, stressful, but thrilling thing I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Like you just met these people, this marooning challenge, you learned their names like 30 minutes ago.

And now they're the most important people in your life. And you are either going to win with them or lose for them. It's one of those situations where you win together or you are the reason you've just lost. And that is a ton of pressure. But for me, the challenge to take pressure like that, will I crumble or will I make a diamond? That is everything. It's a high that I will chase for a long time.

Yeah. I mean, I think that having your entire tribe together and not having to send someone away from camp at the start of the game is a huge factor. I think that it creates positivity and everyone can kind of get to know each other, feel everybody out. You don't have to worry about that solo person that's off doing who knows what, bonding with someone on another tribe. They come back.
