Und es war so, ja, und ich brauchte es. Ich konnte mich fühlen, wie es geht. Und dann, ich meine, aber die Schmerzen wurden wirklich schlecht. Und dann... Wie lange dauerte es, dich so zu verletzen?

Nach einem halben Tag. Von wieder trinken beginnen? Oh nein, ich trinke. Als ich vomitein war, habe ich gesagt, ich muss trinken. Das muss der Grund sein.

Ich glaube, das waren die letzten drei Jahre. Von trinken? Dass ich es wirklich benötigt habe. Und wann habe ich dich in Montreal gesehen? Das war der Sommer, bevor ich sauber wurde.

Und dann mussten sie mein Blut nehmen. Und als sie mein Blut zurückgebracht haben, sagten sie, hör mal, es ist etwas mehr los hier. Und es ist...

Es scheint so zu sein, dass du denkst, dass Alkohol Lyme-Bedrohungen lösen wird, aber es ist nicht. Oh, das ist so, wie sie es geformt haben? Nein, das ist in meiner Meinung. Ich dachte... Aber ja, Antibiotika und Alkohol, das bedeutet es wirklich, wenn sie sagen, nicht das zu tun. Ja, weil sie nicht funktionieren? Sie funktionieren überhaupt nicht.

Aber ich vergesse das Nummer, aber er sagte, ja, du hast 360 Enzyme in deinem Blut. Und ich sagte, oh, okay, was ist normal? Ich dachte, 320. Er sagte, sechs. So your liver was crapping out? Yeah. And my friend had just died from this. My friend, Richard Swift, who's an amazing musician, died of that. And I knew that moment at my doctor that that's me and I need to go to rehab.

And I got a hold of Becky.

Who you knew as a fuck-up. Knew before and after. Yeah. Yeah. Wild. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, he got me into a... My friend Kevin, too, was involved. I think I called Kevin first and then he called Dave Becky. But yeah, they got me in.

And then two years, two days later, they had to take me to the hospital because they found me, you know, naked in the backyard at this rehab with, you know, seizures, tremors. And I woke up in like the San Joaquin Hospital or something like that. Yeah. Waren sie nicht, äh, äh, äh, sie waren nicht, äh, äh, sie waren nicht, äh, äh, sie waren nicht, äh, äh, äh, und dich lebendig zu halten.

Aber wenn sie das nicht mehr tun können, was sie nicht konnten, sie haben es alles versucht. Die Schmerzen waren so schlimm? Ja, und ich habe mit dem Fernseher gesprochen. Ich dachte, ich mache Telefonnachrichten.

Halluzinierende? Massive Halluzinationen. I remember I was playing this Townes Van Zandt song. They had a guitar there. That always helps with alcoholism. You can play as much Townes Van Zandt as you should.

I was ripping through a song in my room, Loretta or some song, and they came in, they were like, hey, can you, we're running a rehab out here, and you're screaming some song in here, and it doesn't sound good. You thought you were nailing it, though. I felt like, yeah, I'm in the top of my game. Aber ja, ich erinnere mich, und ich habe Al Madrigal angerufen, als ich im Krankenhaus war.

Ich weiß nicht, wie oder warum, aber er hat mir später gesagt, weil ich glaube, ich hatte ein Show oder etwas, ein Kalender-Event poppt auf meinem Telefon und ich habe ihn angerufen, hey, ich kann das Show nicht machen, aber und dann plötzlich war er so, was, etwas scheint sehr offensichtlich. Ja, ich bin im Krankenhaus.

Und ich bin sicher, dass das Teil davon war. Und dann hat mich meine Frau mit meinem Sohn verliebt. Und mein Vater kam und hat mich für ein paar Wochen gerettet. Und das ist einfach ein echter Haze. Hunderttausend Menschen können gerade nicht lügen. Richtig. Keine Symptome? Nein, nein. Das ist gut. Ich habe Symptome von der Verabschiedung von Nikotin. Besonders wenn ich ein bisschen Zen sehe.

Also weißt du, wie man das macht. Das war das erste, was ich vor dem Schlafen gemacht habe. Ich meine, es waren 30 Jahre Nikotin bis Dezember. Und dann habe ich den Stomachfluss bekommen.

Ich habe mich ausgedrückt.

Er hat mir ein Stück von ihm gegeben, bevor ich verabschiedet bin. In einem Hotel. Wir waren auf dem Elevator. Es war das Ende eines Wochenends von Shows. Und ich dachte, kann ich einen Pouch nehmen? Und er hat gesagt, nimm ihn einfach, Kumpel. Ja. Er hat sich einfach aus dem Elevator gedreht und gesagt, okay, wir sehen uns nächstes Wochenende, glaube ich.

Yeah, he likes to point that out about me a lot as well. I know, I know. As he shovels a pizza into his face. He was also involved in some way in getting me into rehab. I never want to ask him about it, because I just don't like hearing about it. It's like that Jackson Brown lyric of like... Wow. Ja. Ja.

Yeah, that's nice that you could be either unknown or a professor.

It's funny though with stage because your experience of audiences and stage stuff, you saw that and you thought, this doesn't add up to positive.

They're listening to it like, he really wants us to get a message out of this.

Ich hatte einen wirklich prolifizierten Moment, als ich zehn Lieder geschrieben habe, die ich wirklich liebte, die ich toll fand.

Weißt du, mit einem Twist oder so, aber ein bisschen ernsthaft. Und ich habe ein Show bei Permanent Records gemacht und ich hatte eine Band. In Outback? Nein, im Inneren. Das erinnert mich an dieses Ort in Cleveland. Es ist so eine coole Bar.

Und ich habe fünf davon gelesen. Und es war am nervigsten. Ich war so nervös. Vor allem während der Rehe. Und alle in der Band sagten, das sind tolle Songs, Alter. Das wird Spaß machen. Und ich so, wirklich? Bist du sicher?

Es gibt Geräusche, es gibt Trinken. Es ist seltsam. Ich habe dieses Show letztens gemacht, wo ich das Wetter gesungen habe. Oh ja. Aber es war mit der David-Waynes-Band, Ken Marino, der Dad-Band. Und ich habe das erste Vers gesungen und dann war in der Song. Aber... Es war großartig, weil es der letzte Song war. Und es ist einfach der einfachste Song.

Und ich bin da rausgekommen und dachte, ja, ich könnte das machen. Ich könnte Rockstar sein.

Am anderen Tag habe ich Licks in C angeschaut. Ich wollte nur noch ein paar mehr Licks lernen. Und ich war so, wow, dieser Junge ist... Das war ein 14-jähriger Junge.

I did that over the pandemic. I learned how to Travis pick. I learned a few things. I was like, I really want to... And you can do it? Yeah, I thought, I really want to figure this out. I've tried to learn that, but you've got to keep doing it. Yeah, and I'm not like, even now I haven't been doing it. And I tried the other day and it's like, oh, I can still do it, but I can't.

Yeah, to throw the melody into the bass and all that. It's a mess. That's why that movie inside the Llewyn Davis movie, that guy, that actor. Isaac... What's his name?

Oscar Isaac. Yeah. I saw an interview. He was like, yeah, I learned how to Travis pick when I got the part. And I was like, I'm going to learn how to Travis pick. That sounds cool. And I was like, wow, he learned that and then performed.

No, and it's beautiful. Like the way that Townes Van Zandt plays guitar, especially in his older years, where he doesn't really care that much. Oh, he's so drunk, too. I know, and it's so sloppy, the guitar. But it's also amazing, the guitar. It's so weird. It's like he's trying to be offensive with an acoustic guitar, and it's rhythmically like... Fuck you, acoustic. Yeah. Exactly.

Ich hatte 60 Tage Rehab. Wow, das ist großartig. Ich liebte es. Ich meine, ich war es. Ja, sicher. Aber ich habe, weißt du, es ist lustig, das kommt auch von der Montreal Sache. Ich habe einen Anruf von meinem Stand-Up Agent bekommen, als ich da war. Und er wusste nicht, dass ich in der Rehab bin. Ja.

Und er war so, hey, Freund, ich wollte nur anrufen und beurteilen, dass du das Mexiko-Tour verabschiedet hast. Ja. Und ich war so, was? Und er sagt, ja, in Montreal hast du die beiden Leute aus Mexiko getroffen und mit ihnen eine Tour geplant. Ja. Und dann haben sie mir ein Angebot gesendet. Und ich habe gesagt, ja klar, ich mache es.

Also der erste Stand-Up, den ich gemacht habe, wirklich nach dem Soberwerden, war eine Tour nach Mexiko. Mit diesen beiden Jungs, die ich auf Kokain verabschiedet habe. Und wer weiß, was ich da war. Und wie ging das? Fun as hell. Ja? Ja. Du bist sober geblieben? Ich bin sober geblieben. Sie haben es als ihre Mission gemacht, mich sober zu machen. Sie waren wirklich entspannt.

Wurden Sie in Mexikanischen Beratungen gehen? Ich hatte keine Zeit. Oh. Es war wirklich wie, wir sind in der Fahrt und fahren. Es war Spaß. Oh, that's great. Like weird small cities. Yeah. They said that comedians come down and do Mexico City. They do like, you know, the basics. But no one had really done what I was like doing. One-nighters. Yeah, around. Yeah. It was fun.

And the guy that opening for me was Roberto Flores. He was doing... He was doing all Spanish. Yeah. But they got you?

That's a big chunk out. All of the things were not an issue. Admitting I had lost control. I knew I lost control that night at the hotel in Las Vegas. I knew that I was out of control. So all of those things, it was just like my hands were up. It was like, help me get through these steps and then let's do this.

Das hat mir jemand in der Reha gesagt. Mein Vater war fünf Jahre alt. Ich erinnere mich nicht mehr daran. Er wusste, dass ich krank war. Ich war im Krankenhaus. Sie kamen nicht besuchen. Ich wollte sie nicht besuchen. Dann kam ich raus. Es war Weihnachtszeit. Es begann sich zu bewegen. Dann ging es weiter. Mit einigen Freunden und habe ein neues Leben angefangen. In der Hinterküste oder so.

Und dann kam die Pandemie. Und das war eigentlich eine coole Situation, die wir hatten. Wir hatten eine Bubble. Ja, wir hatten eine Bubble. Und ja, das war es. Aber es war, alles war schwer zu erneuern. Besonders wenn du weißt, wie Menschen verletzt werden. Und man kann das nicht wegnehmen. Und nur die Runden zu gehen und zu sagen, hey, es tut mir leid, ich wollte das nicht machen.

Ich wollte nicht, dass Leute denken, dass ich das nur mache, was ich gelegentlich mache, wenn ich meine Schritte beenden möchte.

Ja, manchmal. Ich mache auch mein eigenes Zeug, aber Nate hat mir sehr geholfen. Es ist ziemlich lustig. Ich glaube, er sammelt eine Crew von Aposteln.

Ja, er ist, ich meine, er ist wirklich gut. Ich liebe ihn. Es ist auch lustig, weil es lustig ist, mit jemandem auf Tour zu sein, wenn du Leuten sagst, sie sind so, oh, ich liebe ihn. Ja.
