All of these things were having a negative impact on him. And, you know, I really didn't know what to do. I mean, I talked to him quite a lot about this issue at the time. And You know, I tried to encourage him to get a better lawyer. I tried to encourage him to, you know, maybe talk to a mental health professional, those sorts of things.

And I'm not sure how much at that time if he was trusting me less and less. I don't know if he thought I'd been co-opted by the FBI. He wasn't really nearly as open as he used to be.

It really had a dramatic impact on his behavior, his mental state. You know, he was drinking, which was uncharacteristic for him. You know, he was becoming more withdrawn. I think that he was becoming quite paranoid at that time, and probably rightfully so, because the FBI clearly was reading his emails. They were listening to his phone calls. They were going through his trash.
