So for context, back in 2023, Japan's Nippon Steel offered $15 billion to acquire U.S. Steel. That's the second largest steel producer here in America. The company's board and shareholders approved the deal, but President Biden in January blocked the acquisition, saying it was critical to national security to ensure that America maintains ownership of U.S. steel.
