I think at the very least, it shows a credulousness of being led around by the rebel group and having this opportunity to see someone be literally liberated when the propaganda line is about liberation. It just seems it should have seemed to them too good to be true and that it didn't, I think, is pretty suspicious and unfortunate for their credibility.
