This goes back again to Preet's book Selling Days when he had the benefit of learning from a system of selling that had been in use for over 100 years. There was a plan, there was a manual, and it worked. Preet says people often get wrapped up in wanting to reinvent the wheel just because it looks cooler or sounds different.
