It was a special time of year, one that I looked forward to through the rainy days of spring, the summer heat, and especially as the leaves dried and fell. On the drive up the road at night, when the farm came into sight, and you saw the trees wrapped in white lights, the branches suddenly picked out against the dark sky, the roofline of the house and barn, and even the weather vane all glowing.
