In 2006, Shanna received the Middle East Forum American Hero Award. In March 2009, she was honored with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's Above and Beyond Citizen Award from Montana. Sadly, Shannon died in November 2020. She had Graves' disease, which meant she had an overproduction of the thyroid hormone, and it caused all kinds of health problems. She was 50 years old.
