Peloton is not just bikes, people. Peloton has a variety of workouts for whatever era you're in. Holiday era, running era, wellness era, whatever it is, they have classes and motivation to help you get to it.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, we should back up a second because we skipped a scene, which is Dwight and Michael are in Michael's office and they are brainstorming about what motivates people the most. Yeah. What's an incentive? Yes. Because he's going to have to motivate the sales team to win this prize today. At 3 minutes and 15 seconds, Dwight is hanging out over Michael's shoulder in that traditional spot.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yeah, I noticed going back again, I really saw how this was our real scene. Building. Yes. This wasn't our set yet. Well, I also want to note that Dwight is not wearing a mustard shirt in this episode. Oh, wow. I didn't catch that. Kind of a good catch. That is a good catch.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, like you said, Michael's going to get a glimpse of Katie through the blinds and he's going to decide he does want to speak with her. Yeah. And he's going to go out and he's going to tell her she can have the conference room.
Office Ladies

Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And we talked about this in our original breakdown. But lady, if you can believe it, I have more to tell you about American Way magazine. I love American In-flight magazines. I do too. And I'm sad a lot of airlines don't have them anymore. That's what I was going to share. Oh. American Way magazine has been retired. Oh, no. Yeah.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
According to an article in USA Today from June 2021, Dana Lawrence, American Airlines Managing Director of Global Brand Marketing, said airlines are eliminating magazines due in large part to travelers changing tastes for in-flight entertainment since the introduction of Wi-Fi on planes. Oh. But then I got into the history of the American Way magazine. Is this going to make me more sad?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I don't know. I found it fascinating. It started as a 22-page booklet called The American Way in 1966, and it was just an annual publication. And in the first issue, flight attendants were called stewardesses, and business travelers were pitched family fairs, offering half-price tickets for your wife. It was like so Mad Men, this whole era. But then it moved to a monthly magazine.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And American Way is very proud that they've had a few pop culture moments. They called them out in this article, specifically the fact that Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, bragged that he subscribed to it. They mentioned that he has that line where he says... There's some great articles in there. They did a great profile last month of Doris Roberts and where she likes to eat in Phoenix.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I loved it. American Way said they did feature an article with Terry Bradshaw and where he likes to eat in Phoenix. So if you want to look that up, you can at least find that out. And then did you know that 12 years later, our very own Mindy Kaling was on the cover of American Way magazine? She tweeted about it.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
She said, I'm proud to grace the cover of Michael Scott's favorite magazine, American Way. That's so funny. Well, I have to go find that because I want to read it. Well, by 2021, Delta, Southwest, and United had also retired their in-flight magazines. But United decided to bring their Hemispheres magazine back in digital form. Virgin Atlantic has also brought their magazine back online.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
You all know we discussed the first time we broke this down how I wrote an article about winning the poker tournament in Scotland for Hemispheres magazine, and I thought I would share an update. Okay. My family went back to Scotland in 2022. We returned to the same pub, the Wally Dug. This time with your kids. Yep. There was no poker tournament. We wanted there to be so bad.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We were like, guys, listen, if we get there and there's a poker tournament, buckle in because mom's going to enter again.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But there was no poker tournament. But when we got there, the bartender was like, oh, my gosh, you're that girl who from the TV show that won the poker tournament here. And I was like, yes. And it had become like she said, we get all these American tourists who come here now. Yeah. Because you told that story. But it was sweet. We took a photo with our kids.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And now on our shelf, we have the photo of me and Lee from our first trip and then a photo with the kids.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Hello. Hi. Let's tell everybody what we're doing today because this is exciting. I'm so excited about it. We watched the Hot Girl Peacock Superfan episode. So much extra stuff. So much extra stuff. You know, we went into our mailbag and you all suggested that we watch and break down some of these Peacock Superfan episodes. There are some people who don't even know these exist.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, this scene of him watching Katie, like, unpack her purses and he's just lingering. Oh, man. It's a little expanded from the original. There's just a lot more of him awkwardly watching her and asking if there's anything he can do to help, you know, until she's finally like, a cup of coffee would be great. And then he's like, I knew it.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And then there's a new talking head from Michael where he says, it's probably not charming to say so, but people find him charming. There's a whole runner of Michael in this episode talking about just what a catch he is, how charming he is.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, what's interesting is that this is the first and only time we see this full hallway on the show. It was the hallway that goes behind the back window of the conference room. To get to it, you would go through that door next to the storage shelf and like go to the left.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
You go through that door and then that's where that hallway was. And this was a real thing in this real building. But it was really weird because it was like there was a window at the end of the conference room, but it just went to this hallway. And then on the other wall of the hallway were a couple of windows that actually went outside.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I don't know what this hallway was for. It made no sense. It made no sense. It's like where the hallway, it's where Dwight lit the fire. Yes, that's right. But that was after we had recreated it on our set. We recreated part of this hallway. But in that episode, which is stress relief, when Dwight starts the fire in the trash can, you only see the right corner.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
You never see this view behind the conference room again. Right. So when we were watching the final episodes of the show and I became very curious about where does this door go? And I wrote Dave Rogers and I said, where does that door go by the storage shelf? Yeah, what's the story? What happens if you turn left? We know what happens.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
You get to our hair and makeup stations and you get to where we would eat lunch. But I'm like, where in the world of this building of this show did we think that went? And Dave Rogers, we joke about it. He sent me back a dissertation. About the hallway? All the hallways of Dunder Mifflin.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
So Dave shared with me that there are a lot of Dunder Mifflin floor plans that were made by fans that try to explain where all of the doors and hallways go in our world. Most of those show this hallway as leading to a set of stairs. So you know that door that's at the end past the break room? Yes, yes, yes.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yeah. So, you know, we broke down Hot Girl before in our original rewatch, but there are added scenes. And we also found so many more things that we could talk about. Well, Jenna, are you going to do a summary?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Most of the fan theories, they have drawn a set of stairs that you can get to from either that door by the break room or a door at the end of this little hallway. Okay. But there was no door at the end of this hallway.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Oh, well, I don't know. If you need to clear a room of smoke, you might open a window and blow it out the window. I don't know. Anyway, I'm sorry. Go ahead. Well. I was going to say, in reality, both of those doors led to a big storage closet, which is where I believe props would keep our props. But in the world of Dunder Mifflin, we created our own Dunder Mifflin floor plan.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Because we had to have a sense of where did these things go in the fictional world. And even on the Tundra Mifflin floor plan, this hallway goes nowhere. Oh, no. It goes to nothing. On our official floor plan, we do show that the door by the break room does lead to a fictional staircase. And I think that is the staircase that...
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Would go to the spot where we saw Pam crying on the bench when Dwight comforts her. Which was the side of the warehouse. Yeah. So that door by the break room, I believe, would take you down to that part of the building. And then also in our like Dunder Mifflin lobby elevator area, there is a staircase that would lead you down to Caffeine Corner. Right. Okay. Okay.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But my one question when looking at all these floor plans was where is that long hallway that Michael is always running down that connects between those two stairwells? Oh, the writer's hallway?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I really sat with that question, Angela, in planning this episode. Yeah. I'm going to do a title. Okay. Is it Hot Girl? Just curious. I'm going to say this. Okay. Season one, episode six. All accurate. Written by Mindy Kaling. Directed by Amy Heckerling. Yes. I'm going to give you a summary. Okay. I'm not going to give you any fast facts, though. Okay. I'm not going to, you know.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We know it was the writer's hallway, but like where – because there's windows.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Why didn't they go to so many places? It's true. The kitchen. Yes. Also, looking at this floor plan, there is another door that we never reveal where it goes or what it is. It leads to nowhere. And that is the door in the annex by Kelly's desk. Yes. The door by accounting we eventually reveal is a storage locker where the dock crew keeps their stuff.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I don't know. Well, anyway, there it is, everybody. That was... The hallways. The dissertation on hallways and doorways. I was talking to Paul Lieberstein recently, and he pointed out that none of the windows of our interior set match the windows of our exterior building. And it said it's always driven him crazy, and fans never talk about it.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
He said there's all these floor plans and people worry about the hallways and the doors, but no one talks about the windows.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
You know, I'm glad that was cut from both the original and the superfan. I don't think I ever need to see that. It's so gross. Well, now Dwight is going to have a talking head. This was also in the original episode where he just talks about how the purse girl, like, hits everything on his list. We talked about this scene because it has the very famous line that shrewds produce very thirsty babies.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Dwight doesn't need the boobs for him, though. They're for his babies. For his babies. Yeah. That's why he likes her boobs. That's right. I thought the angle of this talking head was very interesting. He's inside the conference room, but... He doesn't have Stanley's desk behind him. Nope. It's actually like he's sitting almost right by the door to the conference room, which is closed.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And over his shoulder, you can see Jim. You can see Creed at the copier. Leanne crosses behind him.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, behind Katie's shoulder, we have the Dunder Mifflin Calendar Blitz. Yeah. It's this whiteboard, and it looks like a sales chart. Maybe this is where we're figuring out who's going to win this incentive at the end of the day. And the names on it were very curious to me. Oh. They were Jim, Dwight, Stanley, Phyllis. Andy. Andy? Yes. Andy. Roger. Who's Roger?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I feel like I keep doing them. And it ends here. Okay. All right. You heard it. But here's your summary because I couldn't give that up. Okay. The appearance of an attractive purse saleswoman sparks a romantic rivalry between Michael, Dwight, and Jim and causes Pam to examine her own feelings. Okay. Okay. Now, I'm not going to leave you hanging here in the top of show.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And Michelle with one L. Who the hell are Roger and Michelle?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, he also has a line where he asks her if she knows the difference between a snake and an eel. And if not, he can look it up. I looked up the difference between a snake and an eel. Well, an eel is ocean, right? It's a saltwater animal. Well, Angela, according to AmericanOceans.org, there are several differences between snakes and eels. Should we start with their habitat?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yeah. Well, eels can live in both freshwater or saltwater. In fact, the European eel migrates from freshwater to saltwater to breed. However, snakes are found mostly on land. but in a variety of habitats like deserts, forests, and swamps. Both snakes and eels lack pectoral fins and have scales, but eels have a slimy skin, whereas snakes have dry, scaly skin. Eels have gills. Snakes have lungs.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Eels have a tail fin that runs the length of their body, but snakes have no tail. Also, diet. Most eels are carnivorous and they eat fish and crustaceans and worms. Snakes are also carnivorous and eat things like rodents, birds, and other reptiles. I mean, I've got more. Do you want to hear about their reproductive cycles? I don't know. Well, buckle in because I'm going to tell you.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
So I like to walk in my neighborhood. I like to walk in the fresh air. And then I like to do one of the Peloton meditations and total body stretches. That is an example of like one fitness thing I'll do in a week.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I don't know if I want to know how they do it. Eels lay their eggs in the ocean and the larvae drift back to freshwater environments. Snakes lay eggs or give birth to live young. So different. I knew that snakes laid eggs. Well, I think it's very different. Yeah. Snakes and eels are not closely related is the bottom line. Snakes are reptiles. Eels are fish.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Everyone, take that into your weekend. Oh, my gosh. If you meet a set of twins, they might look very similar. But they're not. They're different people. Oh, gosh. And the next time you encounter a set of twins, you're going to remember this podcast and the moral of the story.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Exactly. Exactly. They look the same, but they're different. But also, I want to say something. But also, snakes and eels don't even look that much alike. They're both like... I don't know. Long. They're both long and I guess they don't have feet.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We did promise we would give top of show shares. And I've got a big one for you.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
In our original breakdown of this episode, we mentioned that Amy Adams, who stars as the purse girl, Katie, was Mindy Kaling's first choice for the role. But what we didn't share was that Amy Adams was not the first person cast in the role. Nope. We originally shot Hot Girl for an entire day with a completely different actress in the role of Katie.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Now Michael is going to offer to give Katie a tour of the office and he tells Ryan to watch her purses.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Then we have a new Dwight talking head. It's a classic. This is some classic Dwight here where he describes his ideal woman. Oh, yeah. You know, his ideal woman would be Koniko Taka, whose parents were assassinated and she was taken in by a wealthy, cruel businessman. But then she practiced Aikido for years. Yes, to one day secretly avenge her parents' deaths. This is who Dwight wants.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And it also says groceries. 10 minutes, 10 seconds. Yes, it is on the wall, and it is right by the door that leads to the bullpen.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Also, there's another sign by Oscar. It's another all-hands meeting. You know that all-hands meeting that's been up by Pam's desk this whole first season? It's on Saturday. No date. Just Saturday. It's a lot of meetings. Pam has a talking head where she says she likes having Katie around because it's another person for Michael to interact with. Now we've got a couple of new moments.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We see Kelly trying to pick out a purse and Ryan is sort of now, I guess, in the role of salesperson. I went to the shooting draft because I was like, what is happening?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And then also, this is our first moment of Kelly and Ryan. And it's so weird because I wonder if this happens to people when they're rewatching the show. I know what's going to happen with Kelly and Ryan. And by the way, Kelly right now is still old Kelly. She's not full Mindy yet. And so I'm like, okay, the purse she picked up is leading toward full Mindy. Yeah. But she's still kind of dressed...
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Like old Kelly. Yeah. And I don't think there's any flirtation here. In fact, at the end of this episode, Dwight is going to give Kelly a purse, almost like hinting that there could be romance there. Yeah. All the romances are off, and I'm a little confused because I know too much.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
When we get to our episode on all about Ryan Howard, I think we're going to have – we'll really track his – what would you call that? Deception. Yes. All right. Now we have another new scene, Angela, that you pointed out in our All About Michael Scott episode. Michael is continuing to give Katie a tour of the office.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Now Michael is going to introduce Katie to Toby. And they kind of hit it off. Yeah. Toby notices that she has a Bishop O'Hara ring. And he's like, oh, my God, did you go there? And she's like, yeah. And he's like, I went there. And they're starting to bond. And, of course, Michael has to cut it off.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And unfortunately, she just wasn't quite right for the role. They had to let her go. We replaced her with Amy. And it's so funny because in our original breakdown, we talk about how when Amy was shooting with us, she told us a story about how she had just been fired from a job when we were all on set together. It's such a common thing in the business. It's almost like a rite of passage.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Sounds like she got everything. Well, now we are going to go into the kitchen. Roy, Jim, and Pam are eating lunch. And Roy just keeps going on and on about how attractive Katie is. And we talked a lot about this in our last breakdown. You know, Pam is seated in between Roy and Jim and Roy is like, I don't understand why you don't go for her helper.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
You know, if we weren't dating, I'd be all over that. And Pam's like, we're not dating. We're engaged. She storms out of the kitchen. Mm hmm. Here's something we did not talk about in our last breakdown. I have something as well. Is it at 12 minutes and 52 seconds?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
At the end of the scene? No. I'll let you go first then. Mine's at the very end of the scene. It's a button at the end of the scene.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Where is Jim from originally? How long has Pam known Roy? Does Jim's family live in town? Do his brothers and parents live in town? Do we know? Their house was in town with the clown. Oh, yeah, that's right. So they did. But how long has Pam known Roy? I mean, in my backstory, Pam and Roy at least went to high school together. Yeah.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, I'm just as excited about this, but at 12 minutes and 52 seconds, Jim John is eating carrots. Oh, yes. I saw that. I think this is the first Jim John carrot eating.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yeah. And I actually wrote about it in my book, The Actor's Life, because while I was writing my book, I got fired from a show and I share all about it in my book. But I also did some research and I thought you might enjoy some of these tidbits. Okay. For example, did you know that Lisa Kudrow was originally cast as Roz in the pilot for Frasier? No. Mm-hmm. Yes.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And Roy has pizza. Jim has a talking head now where he just talks about like, hey, you know, Pam and I are good buddies. She comes to me with her problems like work or Roy.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
It's powerful. I saw two things in this scene that are great examples of stuff we've talked about on the podcast before. Let's hear them. At 13 minutes and 27 seconds, Dwight's chair does not have arms. This was the crap chair that we used to pass around. Yes. It's in this scene. I didn't think it ever played prominently in a scene.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But somehow before Rain started this scene, he got the crap chair and there are no arms on this chair.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And it made me laugh. It brought me back because I was like, I remember when I get stuck with that. Chair without the arms.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We just move it around to all our desks and you'd be like, oh, it really motivated you to get to set early. Also, at 13 minutes and 35 seconds. There is so clearly a fakey document on Dwight's monitor and Jim's monitor. I saw that. It's also on Meredith's monitor. The same one? No, they're all slightly different. But, I mean, they really look almost like a sticker.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
You can just tell that these computers don't really work. If you like just notice that in every single scene, it's the same fakey document on these monitors. But I think especially telling is the fact that Kate is not playing solitaire in the background. Right.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I have a lot of hearing about them that I want to do. So we're a good match.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We're inventing a lot of phrases that are going to catch on this week.

And Ray Romano was originally cast as the handyman in News Radio. Really? And he was let go. And Bob Odenkirk was supposed to play Nathan on Will and Grace, but he was let go and replaced with Woody Harrelson.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
This is where you want to go for cheese, Ange. Oh, I know. I love their cheese. There's such a huge selection. Yes. And not just that. They also have all the best, like, little extras that go on your cheese board. The nuts and the dried fruit and the little jams and the big stuff.

Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
All right. We are back. And Jim is really trying to pump Dwight up to get him to have the confidence to go in and talk to Katie. And he says, listen, if there's a lull in the conversation, just buy a purse.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, like I said before the break, I am ready to receive this information into my ears.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
So did a bunch of men start carrying satchels to be like Harrison Ford in that movie? Yes. Wow.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
It feels like this episode falls in that time period of the 90s, early 2000s.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, Allison Jones shared with us that Amy Adams was everybody's first choice for Katie the Purse Girl. But there was this concern that Amy and I looked too similar. And I guess one of the writers even said, I'm sorry, we can't cast her. She's like Jenna 2.0. And so they got cold feet and they cast someone else.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I just want bigger pockets. I actually want to put everything in my pockets. Well, I don't want a purse.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, Dwight's going to take Jim's advice. He's going to go in and he's going to buy a purse from Katie. And then Jim is going to run over to Pam's desk and they're going to do that little thing you do where you like make up dialogue. Flirty flirt flirt. As they're watching him through the window, they're like, oh, look, I love this. This is wonderful.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yes, this was added in the Superfan episode. This flirty moment at reception with Jim and Pam is expanded. And this is when Pam tells Jim that Michael has been talking to Katie as well. Yeah. And the shot from our opening credits was taken from this scene. Oh, yeah. Of Jim and Pam at reception. That's from this moment of them watching Dwight in the conference room.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I also want to note that there's this moment... In this scene when Pam mentions that his cell phone ringtone is still Mambo No. 5, we kind of cut to Michael in his office. It's at 15 minutes, 34 seconds. And you can really tell that that is real sunlight coming through the window, that that is not fakey window, that this is from the real building.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
So she leaves and as she's leaving, Katie goes, come back. Was that scripted or improvised?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, now Michael tells Katie, I got to show you something. Come to my office. He bought the flippin' Starbucks digital barista for $1,000. Yes. And he has a talking head where he says coffee is the great incentivizer. Really speeds people up.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Someone dropped her off at this business park. And she didn't know anyone there. They just dropped her off. I mean, we talked about this before. All day she needed to be in the conference room. How long does it take to sell purses to 16 people? Yeah. And who dropped her off? And why won't they come pick her up? Well, I don't know. They're not going to.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But when it didn't work out, they decided to cast Amy and just lean into the fact that she and I looked similar. Because that wasn't the idea behind the role at first. That was not part of the conception of Katie the purse girl. And then that is why they added that line. She's like Pam 6.0, which is just so amazing because that writer had said it up in the writer's room.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But Michael is going to insist on driving her home. She reluctantly agrees. And now we get this amazing new Michael talking head where Michael is just talking about why women find him attractive. It is so all over the place. It's brilliant. I thought we should hear it.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
feel like Michael Scott could be on our episode today. I know. With all these phrases that he's coining. I know. I looked in the script. This talking head is not in it. Nope. It is not in our candy bag alts. Nope. I really think that this was just Steve improvising.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
19 minutes, 24 seconds. Dwight is drinking coffee, as you mentioned, out of a football mug.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But not a team mug. It's just a mug with a football on it that says football. I noticed this mug a few times in season one. It is the weirdest mug. I feel like if you could recreate this mug for someone, it would make an excellent deep cut gift for an office fan. Oh, yeah. Also, there is so much background activity in this scene. Meredith is at the supply shelf. Stanley walks in and sits down.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We all got up from our desks in season one. It's hilarious.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Okay. Do you like Steve Miller? No. Because I'm in a Steve Miller tribute. Oh. It's so funny. It's so good. So good. That was an extra scene for the super fan.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
And he doesn't know where anything is anymore. He doesn't. Yeah.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I do. I do. Mine looks like four folders. Mine is like shit everywhere. I know. Next up in the conference room, Stanley has just purchased a purse. And Michael is going to bring Katie an espresso from the machine that is an incentive prize.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I can clean it. Now we're gonna go to the kitchen. Jim enters, asks Dwight for his stapler. Dwight says, it's in my purse. Of course, everyone gets a little snicker.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Again, so much deep background movement back there in the annex. Devin is walking around.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yes. Of course, Pam is going to go out and tell Jim all about this conversation. They're laughing about the futon. When Roy comes in, he wants to make up with Pam. We talked about this last time. He's going to tickle her into forgiving him. Yes.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Because he's going to find someone in a second. She's not all that happy about it.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, Angela's in the conference room, and she's looking at purses. And we talked a lot about this scene in our original breakdown.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
We had a lot of fun. You can tell. Thank you. You guys were good together. Thank you. I actually think there's a spinoff with you, me, and Amy.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Dwight is watching Angela and Katie through the window, and he is going to get up his nerve to go in and ask her out. But she turns him down. She's pretty harsh.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Luann crosses twice in the background of this talking head. Creed crosses. Devin. Then at the end, Creed again. I was just like, there's so much crossing. Also, what's really hilarious is that both Creed and Luann cross into the accounting nook by your desk, Angela, which means that they would cross there and just stand there and then come out. And cross right back.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But where do they – they must have just been standing in the corner.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
They're messing with your stuff, Ange. They're snooping around. Oh, dear. Now Michael is going to ask Ryan for some help cleaning out his car. This is one of my favorite scenes. It's one of my favorite scenes of the whole series. Blue Blast.
Office Ladies

Jenna F. from Los Angeles wants to know, how much of this was improv?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Jim is very smooth when he wants to be, huh? Did he flip the charm switch or what? He waited till the end of the day. Everybody was coming at her all day. Yeah. He played it so cool. Yeah. We're going to go back to Michael's car. And I love this. This is the scene where he finds all the Filet-O-Fish wrappers. The smell-alike. How many Filet-O-Fishes do you eat?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
I've done this so many times. Now he can throw it away. Now he can. But now this scene is expanded and Michael is going to ask Ryan to hook him up with some great music to play.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
While they're having this conversation at 26 minutes and 59 seconds, there is this angle on the parking lot and there is this brick wall behind the car. And, you know, this is because this was a real parking lot at a real building. But... Once we move locations, you will never see this brick wall again. And I thought it was interesting that we didn't try to recreate that.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yeah. We let it go. We let it go. We were like, I mean, I guess I'm not surprised because what were we going to build a brick wall? But I don't know. Brick wall.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Well, now Pam is hanging out at Jim's desk. She's bored. She's like, what are you doing for the weekend?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl

He was the guy with the big car. He was. He's like, it's a real thing.

Office Ladies

I so remembered doing this scene. And have you ever, like, had this happen before? I feel like I have this stored in my body from my youth or something where, like, you know – You're going to see maybe a cute boy that you like. And so you put on a lipstick. Yeah. Or you put on mascara. You do something. You do something. And then to just kind of like get noticed.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
But then when you see yourself in the mirror, you realize how it's just like too much. And then you feel like all cringy inside.
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
Yes. Well, now everyone's leaving for the day. It's dark out. Everyone's walking to their cars at the same time. Michael's walking out with Katie and Jim. And this is when we find out that Jim is just going to give Katie a ride home after they get drinks. Yeah. And Michael's like, oh, yeah, yeah. As they're walking out, Did you hear Katie's line, which I think has to be an improv by Amy?
Office Ladies
Superfan Episode: Hot Girl
What, what? She goes, everyone's like, good night, good night. And she goes, good night. It was nice to meet some of you.

Well, you're really playing two characters, right? So you're playing this sort of like explain that to people because if you watch the first episode, if you watch the pilot, it's one of the best pilots of anything I've ever seen. I remember seeing the pilot for Breaking Bad and thinking, wow, that was a great pilot. And I felt the same way when I saw the pilot for Matlock.
Office Ladies

The twist at the end is genius. But you had me from the minute you stood at that coffee counter. Yes. And you're bumbling. You get a guy to pay for your coffee. You get the candies and the packets. It had me from the minute, like that first scene in the coffee shop. Oh my gosh. The pilot is one of the best pilots I've seen. I told her that too. Yeah. Well, we want to share a little bit about her new series. Kathy Bates plays a wealthy retired lawyer named Madeline Kingston.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Sure. So I was diagnosed last December, December 2023. In January, I had a lumpectomy. And then I had a reconstructive surgery. I had a breast reduction and lift. And what they were able to do was take some of my own breast tissue and sort of fill in the hole where they removed the cancer. So I was reconstructed on the one side using my own tissue, and then they made the other side match.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And then I did 12 rounds of taxel chemotherapy. I got that once a week. And I did three weeks of radiation. And my breast cancer is triple positive. So it was positive for estrogen, progesterone, and HER2. And so for a year, I received these immunotherapy infusions of a drug called Herceptin, which is a miracle drug that was discovered in my lifetime.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
before this drug was introduced to the treatment plan for women with HER2-positive breast cancers, the survival rate was one of the lowest of the breast cancer diagnoses, and now it's one of the highest. And so I feel very blessed that this is part of my treatment plan. And so I've got a few more infusions of that ahead of me. I get those once every three weeks.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And then I will be on tamoxifen, which is an estrogen blocker, for five years. And that's my treatment plan. So I'm finished with the big three, as I called them, the surgery, the chemo, and the radiation. And now I still have a few things ahead of me. But I... I'm riding waves of random side effects every day. It's a little different.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I don't know if you can relate, but one of the hardest parts of this whole process has been just the intense need for flexibility on a day-to-day basis according to what my body can do. And And that's hard for me because I'm a real planner. I love a schedule. I love to do what I say I was going to do. And so, um, so that's kind of where I am in the process.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And classes really make a difference. 88% of Masterclass members say that they feel like Masterclass made a positive impact on their lives. And she returns to practicing law as a way to seek justice for the death of her daughter, Ellie, who died as a result of the opioid epidemic. But now you don't find that out till the end. Of the pilot. Yeah. Yes, that's right. When we meet her, we meet her in her fake identity as a sort of like needy widow named Maddie Matlock. Who had like a crappy ex-husband. Yes.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I got steroids before each round of chemo. And I found that the steroids, the side effects of the steroids... having me be real amped and then crashing kind of right as the chemo would hit me, that was a rough couple of days, yeah.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Yeah, something like 20% of breast cancer patients develop lymphedema. And it's because when you get your breast cancer surgery, something that is just standard is they remove some of your lymph nodes to test them for cancer to see if the cancer has spread that from the breast, those lymph nodes underneath your arm, that's first stop shopping for the cancer.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
So they test those lymph nodes, but they remove them. And when you mess with the lymphatic system like that, when you do that surgery, you increase your risk of developing lymphedema. And, um, And it was something that luckily my doctor did explain to me before my surgery. They educated me on the warning signs about my arm swelling or my legs or ankles swelling.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And my cancer was on my left side and I had my lymph nodes removed on my left side. And they have told me that whenever I get a blood pressure cuff, it needs to be on my right side. And if I'm going to get an IV, it needs to be placed on my right side, because that is just how incredibly vulnerable your lymphatic system is to disturbance.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And she's raising her grandson on her own. And she is raising her grandson, but not on her own because her husband's still living. Stay with me. And her husband is nice. And her husband is great. Stay with us. And she gets a job at the law firm that she believes has hid evidence that could have saved her daughter's life.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I do like how my shirts fit me better now. I'll say that. And my hair, Kathy, after chemotherapy, so before chemotherapy, my hair was... almost all gray. And after chemotherapy, my hair is growing in not gray. Oh, my God. So I heard that people said, oh, if you have straight hair, it might come back curly. If you have curly hair, like it'll come back a different texture.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
It might come back a different color. And you're not having to color your hair.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Yeah, it was hard. When I heard that I was going to have to have chemo, my first two thoughts were, I don't want to throw up and I don't want to lose my hair. That's what I associated chemotherapy with. And I didn't throw up, but I did lose my hair. And it didn't occur to me until it was happening that it is all your hair. It's your eyebrows and your eyelashes and all of it everywhere.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And it's weird. My eyebrows came back real quickly, though. I was happy for that because I was not great at drawing them in. But it's really weird to not have eyelashes anymore.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Herceptin. Yeah, it's a targeted immunotherapy. I mean, really, it's only been out for about 25 years. And it has just drastically changed the prognosis for women with HER2 positive breast cancers.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Yeah, kind of test run. So she's in. She's very excited. I just loved this conference room scene. They're all having this meeting and they're in litigation with this other company and they're trying to figure out, like, what would this company be willing to settle at? Right. What would they be willing to settle at?
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I am not. No. And I'm really grateful for that. And after my surgery, my doctor also prescribed some physical therapy. So I was able to get that side moving. You know, it's very tender, though. I have to say of all my scars of...
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
all of the ways that I've been poked and prodded in this process of getting a port and all the things, that scar underneath my arm from where they removed the lymph nodes is the most tender. It's still tight when I try to raise my arm above my head. It is really, truly such a sensitive area.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Yeah. January is the anniversary of my surgery. I look at all you've done in a year. I know. Well, you know, Kathy, I remember you worked right after your chemotherapy. You went back to work pretty quickly. And I read something that you said, which was that it was a little bit of an opportunity to be not a cancer patient. You got to play a character. Yeah.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And I have kept working through my treatment. And I needed that for my mental health. I needed a place that I went throughout the week. And I just laughed with my best friend. And we talked about these great memories of our time on this show together. Because really, truly, it is so many appointments.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
It is so much of my life and my time is spent with doctors and being a patient that I needed a place where I wasn't that.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And all of a sudden, like from the back of the room, you hear her be like, I know the number they're willing to settle at and I'll tell you what it is if you give me a job. And everyone's like, who is this lady? Right. Where did she come from? Right. And then she goes on to explain how she found out the number they're willing to settle for. And it's much higher than this law firm thought.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
How are you doing emotionally? Oh, you're so kind to ask. How am I doing emotionally? I'm okay most of the time, but at least once a week, I get mad because... Every day I feel like I have to swim upstream a little bit. I have to swim against the current just to have a normal day. And it's exhausting. But I am really so very well supported by my husband and by friends, by Angela and
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
But I did notice that there was a real swell of support during chemotherapy, I think because people know how hard that is to get through. And when the chemo was over, some of the support went away. Sometimes I feel like I'm bothering people or I feel like they're gonna get frustrated with me. They're gonna be like, geez, is this ever gonna end with her? And that's how I feel.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I feel like, geez, is this ever going to end with me? But I do still need support. And I think that's something I would want people to know if they have a friend or a family member going through this, is that the struggle doesn't end when the treatments, quote unquote, end, you know?
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I actually thought we should listen because I loved it so much. Yes, a great scene. Here it is.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Yeah. I got one that was once a week. Do you recall the name of it? Mine was called taxol. You know, I think that's the same one I had, but only every three weeks. Oh yeah. They can do it in, in other doses. Yeah. They can do it. Yeah. Did you know that it comes from the, uh,
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
No, but can I tell you something? So every time they brought, I'm going to get emotional, every time they brought the chemotherapy in to the room and every time they bring the Herceptin in, My husband would go up to it and he would thank it for being there. He would say, thank you. We welcome you into Jenna's body to do your work. You are welcome here. We are so excited to have you here.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
We are happy you exist. And we welcome you into her body to rid her of this cancer.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
My husband said... He said, if when it gets in the room, we tense up and we hate it and we're negative. He said that it's just he was like, I want us to have a different attitude when it comes in the room. I want us to have an attitude of gratitude. I want us to thank it for being here. And he said, I think that that will that openness in your body to accept this medicine will help it do its work.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Yeah. Yeah. And I can't believe what you said about that tree.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
No one is hired without a two-week trial. What's their ceiling?
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Well, that sounds lovely. I'm done. Okay. But Kathy, you've also like traveled the country in an RV, right? Yes, I did.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I'm curious, what was your favorite spot that you visited in your RV? Did you go to a lot of national parks and things?
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
It's so good. So good. But I think what I like about the show is how, you know, people doubting you or people not believing in you or people not seeing you, like that can be really hard, but you can also turn it to your advantage. Yeah. Yeah. And make it work for you. And I really like that.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
That sounds lovely. Well, Kathy, you are such an icon of the entertainment business. You're such an icon. And I wondered if we could end the interview by asking you, what is the best piece of advice you received in your career? And what advice might you give an aspiring actor?
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Yeah, I love that. I feel like it's sometimes hard to be an artist because you do have to keep that open heart. in order to do the work. But that makes it so that you're, I don't know, it's so easy to get wounded when you have that open heart. So it's such a balance.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Kathy, it was such an honor to work with you. Yes. You know, you did something at our first table read together that I never forgot. You sat down at the table and you had the script and you got out a golden folding fan, the kind that you go like, snap. And you would fan yourself because you were hot. And I thought to myself, one day I am going to earn the right to fan myself with a golden fan.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And so, Kathy, my goal in life is to win a Tony. I want to do a Broadway show. I want to win a Tony. And when I walk up on that stage to accept my award, I am going to get out a golden fan and I'm going to fan myself in your honor.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Well, you know, Angela, we also said we would share a swipe up in our stories where people can learn more about lymphedema. And I would also like to include a link to the breast cancer risk assessment test. It is a test that you can take online at home to calculate your risk for developing breast cancer. And it's kind of based on your age, breast density, family history.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And if you have an increased risk, you can share those results with your doctor, and you might qualify for additional diagnostic testing. For example, if you are at a high risk but you're younger than 40, you might qualify for an annual mammogram much sooner. I have said before that my success with treatment is due to my very early detection, so it's really worth taking the test.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Well, everyone, thanks for listening today. We're going to be back with you on Friday with a special holiday bonus episode.

A little office Matlock connection there. Yeah. Well, something else about Kathy Bates is that she and I are both breast cancer survivors. Kathy is actually a two-time cancer survivor. Kathy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2012.

After being treated for breast cancer, she developed lymphedema, and she is now the spokesperson of the Lymphatic Education and Research Network, and she talked with us about that as well. I really appreciated getting to talk with her about this. When you are a cancer patient, there's a language that goes with it. I say to my other breast cancer ladies, like, we speak cancer.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And so I got to kind of speak that language with her a little bit and feel really heard. She was so kind.
Office Ladies

Yeah, I really admire her too. You know, she's talked about this desire to be useful. And her character talks about that on Matlock being useful. And that's something that I felt with my own journey. If I could just make

Macy's is our one-stop shop for gifting this season. I have found gifts for everyone on my list thanks to the Macy's gift guide. In fact, it was their gift guide titled Home that helped me find the perfect gift for my sister this year. They have such good gift guides.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
Lady, I'm so excited that we partnered with them this holiday season because they are truly, actually making my holiday shopping so much easier. I know. Because I have spent so much time with the gift guides. So what did you get your sister? I got her an air fryer. Wow. Great.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
And I know she's going to be excited about it because she recently told me that her kids' new favorite thing to make at home are pan-fried potatoes. But it drives her crazy because of how the oil splatters all over the stove when they make it. Because I think they like to make it, but they don't love to clean it up, I guess. Well, that's usually the case, right?
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
It's kind of like a toy for adults. I feel like it's something you might not buy yourself, but you would love as a gift. Yeah. I have one, too. I love it. Give love. Give an air fryer. You're going to put a swipe up in our stories, too, right? For sure. In general, I love small kitchen appliances. I love a blender, a mini food processor, a rice cooker. That is my personal favorite.
Office Ladies
An Interview with Kathy Bates
I'm going to add a rice cooker to our gift guide. I use my rice cooker so much.

I pulled you from the table. I said, we are meeting Meryl Streep. We are doing this. This is a story for my mother. Come on.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And you said, well, what are we going to do? What are we going to say? How do you walk up to them? What are we going to say? So I was like, here is my plan. We are just going to walk up to them laughing. What? Just laugh.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Like we're like. I don't know what I thought, Angela. I don't know. I just knew we had to seize the moment.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And we did just that. We walked up to Meryl Streep and Amy Adams laughing. And right at that moment, a house photographer came by and snapped our photo. So we have a photo of us and it looks like we are having a hilarious conversation with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I did get to say to Meryl Streep, I did get to say, it's such a pleasure to meet you. I am a big admirer of your work. And I was. I mean, I just loved her performance in Kramer vs. Kramer. I studied a lot of her work. And so as like a theater geek, actory person, we've talked a lot about my love of actor prep. That was a big moment for me.
Office Ladies

We do have a photo. All right, guys. We're going to go to a break. And when we come back, we're going to break down the Hot Girl episode.

Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
She's explaining that they're going to introduce a new incentive program and the top seller in the office is going to get a prize worth $1,000 and that Michael can choose what that prize is. The end.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
The next scene when Dwight is standing over Michael's shoulder in the talking head, it begins as a talking head and then it reveals that Dwight is kind of like hovering. That's the first time we did that. But then we will do that many times in the show. It's one of my favorite things is how Dwight stands over Michael's shoulder.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
That's also when Pam comes into the office to say someone wants to sell handbags. And Michael is totally against it, of course, until he sees how attractive the woman is. A lot of people wrote in and wanted to know, where did these purses come from that she's selling? So I called Phil Shea. Our prop master. Yes. He told me that he bought them all in downtown LA. Oh, at like the markets downtown?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
It was early on when we weren't brave enough to ask to take things yet.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Later, when the show wrapped, I did take Pam's everyday purse. It's just something that had been sitting, even if I didn't use it in a scene, it sat on Pam's desk or it was in her drawer. Yeah. So I have that. I have Pam's everyday purse that she had for most of the seasons. But I didn't keep a fancy purse. There's this scene where Michael has to refer to Katie the purse girl as Pam 6.0.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
This was not an improvisation. I have the script. I know, I know. From Hot Girl. I have all the scripts from season one. I saved them, speaking of saving things. And I looked it up. She is like the improved version of me. Yeah. She is not. Yes, she is.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
It doesn't matter. Even on our plainest day, Amy Adams is Jenna 6.0. She is. No, she's not. It's okay with me.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
It's like we look similar, but then her nose is a little daintier. And her cheeks are a little rosier. And her hair is just a little brighter red. You know what I'm saying? It's just like you just turn it up a couple of notches on the dial and you get Amy Adams. Like if you're creating me, right, you get to me. And then if you turn the dial a couple more notches, it turns into Amy Adams.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
She's Disney you. She kind of is. She's the Disney princess version of me. Yes. Angela, do you have a note card? Because you're like handling a note card right now. I feel like you want to say a note card. I mean, I have one. It's in your hand and then you're touching them. What is it that you want to say?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
No, I'm giving you a chance to speak. Thank you so much. Oh, so it's British when you are offended.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
So this Wednesday, we're going to do it. We're going to be breaking down the super fan episode of Hot Girl. And if you don't have Peacock, don't worry. We'll fill you in. There is still a lot to enjoy. For example, I got to do my Dunder Mifflin hallway investigation. You're very excited about it.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I love those magazines, too. I read them. And, you know, actually, one of the coolest things that ever happened to me is that one time I had an article in. In an in-flight magazine? Yes. Just like the Doris Roberts thing, I got profiled. What? I would be so excited. Why didn't you tell me? That is so cool. No, I told this story about playing poker in Scotland.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I know. But it kind of makes you sound like a rock star. It's my biggest rock star moment of my life.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I'll show it to you. It was for United magazine. Okay. And they had this story where they wanted people to tell the craziest ways they've ever fought jet lag. Okay. So Lee and I had this little romantic trip that we took to Scotland. This was before we had children.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yeah, we can just jet off to Scotland for five days. So we were going to spend two days in Edinburgh. And then we were going to go into the countryside for the other three days, do a tour of, you know, like a Scotch factory and everything really fun. So we get there and we thought we will take an overnight flight.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
We will sleep on the plane and we will arrive at noon rested and ready to tour Edinburgh. Yeah, right. This did not happen. We did not sleep on the plane. And we landed. It was noon. And we were thinking, how in the world are we going to make it through this whole day? We were exhausted. So tired. We're touring a castle. We're walking along little shops. We bought some hats.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yes. You can't fall asleep in the middle of the day. Then you're ruined. Then the whole five days, you're just going to be sleeping during the day and up at night. So it's five o'clock and we are so exhausted. Just so incredibly exhausted. We thought, here's what we're going to do. We're going to go into a little pub. We're going to get a bite to eat. We're going to have a drink.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
We are going to force ourselves to stay awake until 7 p.m., and then we're going to go back to the hotel and fall asleep. Right. That was your plan. Go to the pub, power through, and then go to bed. Correct. We get to the pub, we order our drink, and we see a sign that says, Poker Tournament, starting at 6 p.m.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Well, Dave Rogers told us there's a deleted scene from Hot Girl that really sheds some light on where all these hallways go.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Two pairs of threes. That would be four of a kind. You can. You can win poker with that, Angela.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
We're in Scotland. You're trying to stay awake. So tired. We sign up for the poker tournament. Lee, my husband, he plays poker as well. We're thinking, here's what we'll do. We'll join the poker tournament at 6 p.m. We'll be done at 7. This is how we're going to stay awake that extra hour.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
So much so that we make it to the final table. What time is this? How long have you been there now? It is now midnight. Oh, Jenna. We are... Out of our minds. Exhausted. I don't even know what I'm doing. It's probably why I was doing so well. Because you're so loopy. You're playing the best poker of your life.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Lee and I are both at the final table and we keep checking in with each other saying, like, should we quit? A couple times Lee went all in because he's like, I'm so tired. Just all in. And he would win. Finally, I get down to the final two. It's 2 a.m. And it's you and one other person? One local Scottish guy who played every week in the tournament. And here you are, this American on her vacation.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And I won. You won the whole thing. I won. I won the whole thing. I won 200 pounds. Wow. Amazing. Lee and I couldn't believe it. Everyone in the pub was a little bit like, yay. Yay for her. Did you get your name like up on the wall or something? I got my name up on the leaderboard and I was supposed to come back for the championship. Like table that was happening in several months.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
All right. Please enjoy this second drink of Hot Girl, and we will see you Wednesday. I'm Jenna Fisher. And I'm Angela Kinsey. We were on The Office together. And we're best friends. And now we're doing the Ultimate Office Rewatch Podcast just for you.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Of course, we all knew I wasn't going to show up. So I think the runner up guy got to take my place. And then we went back to the hotel and we slept so well. And I suffered no jet lag for the rest of that trip. So this was your story. This was the story in the United magazine. And I was so proud to be in that magazine.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I got copies. I sent them to my mom. I sent them to my in-laws. I have one at home.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
in a pub wearing my hat that I had bought by the way wearing your hat my wool hat and like smiling and I was like what is going on and you were like I want a poker tournament I was like you're supposed to be sleeping yeah but that's I mean truly that is like maybe one of my proudest moments yeah that's a pretty rock star moment lady thank you well we should probably get back to the episode this is the cringiest episode of the office so far
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Not ever. I mean, Scott's Tots, but it's cringy. But Diversity Day is pretty cringy, too. But the whole scene where Michael is talking to Katie about coffee, I was dying.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Oh, my gosh. She does. And then that scene with Brian over my shoulder asking me if I'm jealous, I laughed so hard during that scene. What was difficult was that I was supposed to sit there and be doing my work, and he is hovering over me and then insulting me, and I could not get through it. Every time he would start his sentence, it would make me laugh.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
That was a scene that I probably laughed the most in when I was shooting this episode. Really? And this leads me into a fan question from Delaney. Did you guys ever get offended by the scripts personally? Like in this episode, how Pam is compared to Katie the whole time? Jenna, did you take that personally? I didn't.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Also, I feel like so much of comedy and comedians is self-deprecating in nature. Yeah. And so we're a group of people who are pretty honest with ourselves, don't you think? Yeah. It wasn't offensive to me. It was also, it was the idea that has happened to all of us where a more attractive person walks in the room and is getting all the attention and then you feel, you feel jealous.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
But I enjoyed this episode. I loved playing with all those feelings.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
It was so amazing. You know what I gave myself as a direction in that moment in my head? What? Was... When he tells you that, do not blink your eyes. Just stare at him. You're not affected by that. And smile because that is great news. Oh, that's great. That was her way of trying to not show how she was feeling, but then show it shows everything.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
We are here and we're excited because today we're talking about Hot Girl. Hot Girl, season one, episode six, written by Mindy Kaling and directed by Amy Heckerling.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I loved the you slept one night in your car, right? Yeah. Made me laugh out loud. Yeah. So good. Like for a long time.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
What's so amazing is that Steve and Paul in real life are both of our kind of very gentle, quiet, kind people on the set. And they have to... Well, I guess just Michael has to bully Toby. But Steve and Paul's... real-life relationship is so opposite that.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I had just been insulted. He insulted me. He just said, we're dating. And I had to say, we're not dating. We're engaged. I'm very hurt. And I walk away. What do you want? And here's my salad and my Tupperware. Deal with it. Have you never been at a meal and been offended and just left your plate? No. No.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
So if you're in a fight with someone over dinner, you get up with your plate and you go rinse it off and put it in the dishwasher.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Well, I would love to see that. I think it would have been so weird if she had taken her food with her.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I think it would be funny if she was mad as hell and had to pack up her salad. I have a thing that I wanted to share about Pam's engagement ring to Roy. The props people, when you have to be married on a show, they'll bring you a whole tray of rings. To pick. Yes, you get to pick your engagement ring and your wedding ring.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Now, these are based on selections that have been pre-edited by the director and producers, right? So you can't just pick, like, a honking ring. Right, it has to match your character's life. Yes, but they give you a variety of things to choose from, and you have to try them on in different sizes.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
So when they gave me the tray of rings, I picked a diamond cluster ring as opposed to a diamond solitaire. And I had it in my mind that... Pam has always been hurt that Roy didn't get her more of the ring she wanted, which would be more of a diamond solitaire, more of what Jim is going to give her later. Right.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
But she's a polite person, and she thinks it's not right to be offended by the ring or to not like the ring, so she had to very graciously accept this ring. But I always felt like... Her opinion of Roy was that he didn't put enough effort into getting to know her or what she would like, or he didn't put a lot of effort into the engagement ring. Or the relationship. Or the relationship.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And classes really make a difference. 88% of Masterclass members say that they feel like Masterclass made a positive impact on their lives. And there's no risk because every new membership comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. So you can give your loved ones a year of learning with Masterclass. Masterclass always has great offers during the holidays, sometimes up to as much as 50% off.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
But that the ring is really a symbol of his lack of effort and his lack of knowing her. And every day when I would look down at that diamond cluster ring, it would just poke at those wounds that she has in her relationship with Roy. And so when he says boyfriend... That's another way that she's like, that's right. This ring makes me feel like we're not engaged.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I've been wearing this diamond cluster ring for three years, and it feels like a thing that you give your girlfriend. It doesn't feel like what you give someone when you're proposing, at least for Pam.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
So you see how hurt she was. She was very hurt. You see the history there.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And this is probably one of the biggest displays of hurt and anger that Pam has ever had. Yeah. Because she doesn't let it out.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
CET? Where? Oh, yeah. Oh, yes. Yes, I see it. I see it. What is that? I don't know. We need to find out from John. And Phil Shea. We will text John and Phil and get an answer. I have a fan question. Okay. This is from Mary Beth. The scene where Dwight is talking to Katie about buying a purse when Jim and Pam start awkwardly narrating the interaction.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Was that scene scripted or did John and Jenna just play off whatever Rain decided to do? It was improvised. We were on set, and we had a little scripted scene, and then it was suggested that we narrate what was going on. I think it was John's idea. So Rain knew that we were going to do that, so he started doing all kinds of crazy stuff with the purses, like slamming it on the desk.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I am not a great improviser in like comedy, improv, sketch comedy. I took a couple of those classes and I always really tanked. I froze. I'm very good at improvising in a specific character, but not if the specific character has to be funny and say clever things. That's not my forte. It's okay, lady. I know you're good at it. You, that was your thing. I love it. I know. I love it.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
All right, Jenna, hit us with a synopsis. All right, synopsis of this episode. Michael allows a woman selling purses to set up in the conference room for the day, and Michael and Dwight compete for her attention. Very simple.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Just to keep us on plot, at this point in the episode, Michael buys a Starbucks coffee machine. A thousand dollars. A thousand dollars. This is going to be the incentive for the salesperson who sells the most. But then he unwraps it and makes Katie the purse girl a cup of coffee.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I love his line, though, where he says, Dunder Mifflin in the 80s, before they knew how bad cocaine was. Man, did they move paper. Man, did they move paper. So funny. I love that line. I also remember the scene with Michael and Dwight. Michael tells Dwight that he's going to be giving Katie a ride home. And Dwight asking if he loves her. Do you love her? Do you love her?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I remember they could not get through that scene. The two of them were cracking each other up. It went on forever. Forever.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And then he gets up and he walks away. Yes. Yes. So here's something interesting about that. I, as Jenna, hate being tickled. Yeah, you hate it. I don't like it. It is not. It certainly would not be the way to make up with me. It would make you angry. It would. Yeah. I would be like, no.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And I think that when I was filming that, I had to really wrap my head around the fact this is a way that Jenna and Pam are different. Yeah. Yeah. Pam is won over by it. Pam is like, oh, come on. Oh, no. That is how they make up. Yeah. Pam and Roy are friends again, or I guess engaged again after that moment. Whatever they are, they're back. Whatever they are, they're back.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
But for me, as Jenna, I had to really stuff all of my Jenna instincts because I do not like tickling. What?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
This was really a Big Pam episode. It really was. So should we start with some fast facts then? I know you want to. You know. My fast fact, number one, this is the first episode written by Mindy Kaling.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And I have no- You flail your arms when people scare you. Yeah, I've seen it happen.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yeah. You need to hope that you never have to do a scene where someone scares you. It'll be very. Because you will. How will you keep your arms from not whacking? I don't know. I don't know. Someone will get hurt. That was the difficulty for me in that scene because tickling me makes me irritated. Want to whack someone. Does not make me laugh.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
This is where you want to go for cheese, Ange. Oh, I know. I love their cheese. There's such a huge selection. Yes. And not just that. They also have all the best, like, little extras that go on your cheese board. The nuts and the dried fruit and the little jams and the big stuff.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And they have it at Whole Foods. Yeah. And don't forget about the 365 by Whole Foods Market seasonal cookies and baking mixes. Or go to the bakery department for some timeless classics.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Angela, I want to start by asking you a question. Okay. You know the scene where Dwight is asking Katie on the date, and it's in front of your character because you're looking at purses? Your face during that moment, what were you thinking? I did not even look up. No, you just kept your eyes down.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
That's like she wrote an entire season of The Office. I know. Of our night, because the season's usually about 22, 24 episodes. I have a fan question about Mindy. All right. This is from Bear. Hi, Bear. Yes. Bear asked, this episode was written by Mindy Kaling. What was it like to work with her as a writer versus an actor? Oh, Bear, good question. I know. You know what?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
But D'Angela is not a thing yet. No. But it is so easy to superimpose what we know is going to happen between your two characters onto this moment. But people were asking if you knew that your characters were going to end up together in that moment yet, but you didn't, right?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Well, after that, you have a line that is one of my favorite lines of your character where you describe your favorite colors. This is a fan question from Emmy. Angela, did you improvise the scene where you discuss your colors being different shades of gray?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
It really then informed a lot of your wardrobe after that. You had been kind of wearing these muted colors, but that became your uniform moving forward. Okay, Jenna, what else do you have? All right. The scene where Ryan and Michael are cleaning out his car. That was not improvised. No, that was scripted. A lot of people asked all of it. Blue Blast, Smell Alike, How Many Filet-O-Fish Do You Eat?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
All of those lines are in the script. I checked because when I was watching it, it was so hard for me to believe that it was not improvised that I went back to my script and I read it. And I think that it just points to how good the writing was on our show. Fantastic. Just how good. And also how good the actors were. I mean, BJ and Steve in that scene, Just absolutely brilliant.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Mindy also told me that the reference to the Filet-O-Fishes is a nod to her disgusting love of Filet-O-Fish in real life.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I loved when Mindy was the writer of the episode because the writer of the episode on our show would stay on set all week and produce their episode with the director. So they kind of worked very side by side with the director. Yes.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yeah. I could watch that scene over and over again. I think that's a gem. I think if you haven't rewatched this episode, but you're listening to the podcast, just please go watch that scene. It's so good. Terrific.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yes. You should, definitely. Here is something that everybody wrote in about. This was one of our most popular questions. What's up with the wrong parking lot at the end of this episode?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yes. So when we moved in season two and beyond, we had two sound stages. One sound stage was a recreation of the office, that interior office that we shot in the first year. The other building is where the writers worked.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yes. And that is where we filmed the Dunder Mifflin parking lot. So it was really interesting because we had our warehouse set. Over there. And then we had the parking lot. And we had the lobby and the elevator where Hank sat. Yes. All of that was one building. But then the Dunder Mifflin building was something else.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
So if we had to do a scene where you see us walk out, we would have to start that scene in one building and then move all the cameras and all of us over to the other building and then get the exterior version of it.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And I have a story about that parking lot. You see in that final shot, it starts with Michael and Jim and Katie leaving. She's got her big bag. Michael realizes that Jim is going to be giving her ride home because they're going to get drinks. And then it reveals Pam and Roy backing up in Roy's truck and Pam clocks Jim and Katie.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
So David and I had to sit in that truck in the parking lot and wait a very long time until everyone came out and did that scene. And we had a little walkie-talkie inside the truck and they would say, go. And then David would back up and we would pull out and the camera would get that shot of me looking sad and we would drive off. And then they would say, reset.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And we would bring the truck back and then we would wait a very long time. At the end of the night... They reset us back into the parking lot. And we sat there. And we sat there in the truck. We sat there in the truck. And then all of a sudden, we saw everyone driving away in their own cars. Oh, no. They left us in the truck. They forgot to tell us that they had wrapped us. Oh, Jenna.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
For the day. And we were all done and we were leaving. You were done. You were changing clothes. You were getting in your cars. We saw the director leave. We saw actors. David and I were like, what? What? What is going on? So, and here's the thing. I've talked about this before. David Denman and I were very good friends in real life.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Well, Mindy, it was so easy to make Mindy laugh. Like, she was so ready to love everything you were doing. You were filled with such confidence when Mindy was on the set. And she also was really good on the spot coming up with new jokes, because that was another thing that the writer of the episode would do. They would pitch you improvisations on the spot.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
We talked about in the basketball episode how you and I became best friends because we had to sit on that bench for hours and hours. This is really the episode where David and I became such good friends. Well, you had a lot of like St. Louis connections. We did. You had mutual friends. And we had the poker connection. Yes. David and I played in a poker game together with our crew.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
We would host these poker games. Rain was in on it. Chris Workman, who was one of our camera operators. Ed, our camera assistant. We would all get together and we would play poker. And he was part of that. So he was one of my poker pals. And anyway, this was the episode where we really became friends because we got left in that truck.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yes, you saw it, Angela. Yes, I saw it. And I almost texted you, backgroundexpert.com. But I thought, no, I'm going to wait and see if she sees it.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Who was one of our extras for a very long time. So that makes sense. I saw that and I got so excited for you. I got so excited. Because you knew. I knew you were going to clock it. You knew I had my note card ready. I have a final little tidbit. I have a Fisher tidbit. The coffee maker. We never find out who won the coffee maker. No.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I asked Phil Shea because a fan wrote in. They wanted to know, did any of us get to keep it? People are very interested in the things we're allowed to keep and not keep. I get it. He said no. He said it was borrowed. From Starbucks and had to be returned. I believe that. Where is that machine now?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
What's going to happen season two? Who do I get stuck with in season two? Dun, dun, dun.
Office Ladies

Second Drink: Hot Girl
always felt like Mindy was such a big advocate for the character of Pam as well. I think she was in the writer's room pitching storylines for Pam, and this was a very Pam-centered episode, as we said. Pam has feelings. She has a lot of feelings. Pam has a lot of feelings. She does. This leads me into my second fast fact.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I was texting with Mindy about this episode in preparation, and she told me something. What? The original title of this episode was Purse Girl.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yeah. She also told me that her original draft of this was 39 pages. Wow. Which is a lot because usually the number of pages that a script is, that's how many minutes of screen time it is. So her script, if we did it exactly as written, would have been 39 minutes. Wow. which we would not have been able to air.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I remember they used to have those very long table drafts and then they would cut a bunch of stuff out and they would make something they called the candy bag.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And those were all of the cut scenes or they were additional takes on scenes. So whatever talking head wound up in the script, there would be five different takes on that talking head in the candy bag. And so we would sit down to do our talking heads and they would say, all right, well, we're going to do the scripted one, but then we're going to do three of them from the candy bag. Oh,
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
You have to really be on your toes. I think that's something that it kept us on our toes. Yeah, sure.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
All right, Fisher, what else you got? All right. I think it's time to talk about Amy Adams.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Head over to masterclass.com slash officeladies for the current offer.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I see, and a lot of them have the words Amy or Amy Adams on them.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Well, this is our third fast fact. Okay. Amy Adams was the purse girl. Mindy told me that Amy was her favorite from the very beginning. This is who she wanted to cast as the purse girl from her audition. But something that I think people don't realize is that Amy Adams wasn't Amy Adams when she was cast as the purse girl. She became Amy Adams later.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And that's an interesting story, actually, because we filmed this episode in the fall of 2004, but they didn't start airing until the spring of 2005. And that fall, she was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Junebug.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Oh, I loved Amy. It was so fun working with her. There were a lot of questions from fans asking if we planned to bring this character back after we shot it. Well, we didn't think we were going to have a show, right? Right. There were no real plans to bring her back. But then when the show got picked up, they wanted to bring her back. But now she was Academy Award nominated Amy Adams.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I was like, well, I hope we can get her back. And we did. She came back for two more episodes.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Yeah, like the Hollywood fancy place to eat. It was a fancy place.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I have a funny Amy Adams story about how people think that we look alike. So she and I were both at this work party thing. I can't remember exactly. I think it was like honoring directors in the industry. And we were both there. And my friend came up to me and he said, I am so humiliated right now. And I said, what happened? And he goes, I just went up.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And bear hugged Amy Adams and said, Jenna, you look beautiful. Oh, no. Because he mixed us up. And people have this thing where they think she and I look a lot alike. We really don't look anything alike in person. Although I guess I just told a story about someone who mixed us up in person.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I think you should work on it. Okay, thanks. Give it an accent. Should it be British?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Before we go to a break, since we're talking about Amy Adams and how wonderful she is, both on and off set, we have to tell the story about how she helped us meet Meryl Streep.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
This would be a good time to stock up on some liquid IV. Just tear, pour, live more. One stick plus 16 ounces of water hydrates better than water alone.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Oh. The office had been nominated. And I have to say, first of all, Angela, I am so grateful that I got to go to these award show things with you.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
But I am so glad that I got to navigate all that stuff with you because I would normally kind of freeze up at something like that. But I was there with my BFF. We would have a couple glasses of wine. We would sometimes get a little, well, because one thing we should say is we were not allowed to bring a plus one.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Truth be told. Even though our show was nominated, it did feel like that. Well, first of all. Wait, wait, wait. What? Do you remember where our table was?
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I do remember that. Yeah. So the Golden Globes are really cool because they have awards for both movies and television. There are cool movie stars you see. Yeah. As TV people, we were in the room with Angelina Jolie suddenly and Brad Pitt and all those people.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Well, I will say, I remember going to the bathroom and Angelina Jolie passed by. She took my breath away. I thought, well, now she is from the gods. I get that.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
I know. Did I sound like an old lady? Now that is a movie star.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
That's just us anywhere. We've done some real dorky things at parties.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
That is true. I have a little bit of my mom's voice in my ear. And my mom would say, if you are at a fancy party, you need to meet the fancy people. You need to use it as an opportunity. Come on. Go say hi to the people you want to say hi to. So I always had that in the back of my head. Like, this is my only chance to... Whatever. Hobnob? Yeah, meet whoever I've always wanted to meet, I guess.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
But what do you do? How do you get into the conversation is always the mystery. So at this Golden Globes... I'm starting to laugh. We had our in. We look across the room and we see... Amy Adams talking to Meryl Streep.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
Liquid IV has three times the electrolytes of leading sports drinks, and it has eight essential vitamins and nutrients. It is also non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free.
Office Ladies
Second Drink: Hot Girl
And then maybe we'll get to meet some movie stars. Yeah. We'll just basically glom on to Amy Adams was our plan.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Well, Brian, I want to talk about something else with you. You know, there's a reason why you've been using all these really big words today. It's because you are an author. Yes. And you right now have a book called The Night Before Christmas at Dunder Mifflin.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
When you open up the book, just the very first page, you know, it says, "'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through Dunder Mifflin, not an accountant was stirring, not a mouse was a-clickin'." It's so cool because it just brings you right into the world of the office. Pam is sleeping at her desk. Jim's sleeping. Everybody's sleeping kind of at their desks.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
It looks like the Christmas party has happened, and we've all sort of fallen asleep after the party. Yeah.
Office Ladies

And it's just, it's really fun, Brian. It's kind of like I got the Lego, the office Lego one year. And when you put it together and you see all the details.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
I just think that your book is illustrated in that same fun way where you see all these little nods. Like Andy's wearing a hat that says, I went to Cornell. Yes. Well, that's his gift. I know. Santa. From Santa. I have to say, Santa is a much better gift giver than Michael Scott is. Yes. In this book, he really knows his employees well. It's very sweet. Yes.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
My cats are always ill. Now, we should let our listeners know that this is a little PG-13. It's a little bit for your older kids. This is not for your five-year-old. Because like the show, right, the book has nods to the show. So if the content of the show feels appropriate to watch with your children, then the book is appropriate. Yeah.
Office Ladies

Which makes it perfect. Yes. It's for fans.
Office Ladies

And we'll be sure to put a link in our stories so you can get all the details about his new book. It is so cute. And it would make a good gift if you have an office lover in your family.

Get ready for a special holiday episode thanks to the folks at Macy's. Yes, thank you, Macy's. You know, Angela, when we were preparing this episode, I went back and I watched that scene of you singing. I didn't know you were going to play it today.
Office Ladies

We get it every year. All right. So we put your presents out there. Everybody gets two things. You get a big and a little. Okay. Should we start with the littles? Let's start with the littles. Oh, Sam, yours are very similar in size. One of them is slightly smaller than the other.

Sam's going first. Okay. All right. So, Sam, I know this is a tradition of yours, and I hope you don't have this one.

But my favorite thing about that is how at the end of that, the camera pushes in on Michael and he's inviting someone, we don't know yet who, to go to Sandals with him. And the look on his face when you know the person on the other line said yes. And of course, we're going to find out it's Jan. Yeah.

But, Ange, my favorite memory from that episode is an off-camera memory, which we shared in our book, which is that we all wanted to see if Angela could fit inside of a large Christmas bag.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Yes, we put it in our book, but you need to put that in stories. But in terms of an episode gift exchange, my favorite is actually from season eight, Christmas Wishes. It's the montage where Dwight is doing his air guitar and it flashes to everybody exchanging gifts.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Yes, good point. You might be driving to your holiday stuff right now, and that's a good tip, Ange. Yeah, it's a great story, and I'm excited to share it. This is the best story. Well, you know, Angela, I think that the real Santa is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Santa. It's certainly the first time we see the real Santa for the season, and I have a little story about that. Oh, yeah? Yes. My family went to New York for Thanksgiving one year, and once we were there, we realized that we were staying on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade route. Wow. How fun.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
How old were your kids? Little. They were young. And, lady, I love the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I love all the musical numbers that they do. I get to see the Broadway numbers twice a year at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Tonys, and I live for it. I love the Macy's Day Parade. Well, we were super excited when we realized we were on the route. It's really long.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
It's like two and a half miles. You know, it goes all the way from up by the Natural History Museum all the way down to Macy's Herald Square. We were staying about halfway, maybe. So the first couple of days before the parade, you can actually go up by the museum and you can watch them blow up all the balloons. Yes. And it's just so fun. So here's the thing that happened, though.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
On the day of the parade, we were all set to like go down to the end of the street where we were staying and just we got a free view of everything going by. It was amazing. Crazy. Crazy. But we overslept because we were on L.A. time. So by the time we woke up and we ran to the end of the street, it was the last float going by. Oh, no. Which is Santa on his sleigh. This is a roller coaster. Yes.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Yes. So we were like, oh, at least we got to see the Santa. And then we went back inside and we were having breakfast and coffee and we were watching the parade on TV. And it was really crazy because it was almost an hour before Santa got from where we were all the way down to in front of Macy's. But we were all excited because that meant that we saw Santa about an hour before everybody else.
Office Ladies

I saw Santa on TV, but it was a really – it's one of our fun family memories.

Oh, so cute. Well, one of my favorite holiday traditions is holiday baking, Ange. And we always make my great-grandmother's snowball cookies. They're kind of like a Hungarian wedding cookie, but we always made them at the holidays. She made them. My grandma made them. My mom made them. Now I make them.
Office Ladies

Okay, so lady, we have covered office Christmas memories, Santa, gifts, but there's one more thing I want to talk about. For me, another thing I love about the holidays is the music.
Office Ladies

This is the time of year when you walk through the mall and you hear all the holiday songs playing. I love it. And I wanted to ask the group, do you have a favorite holiday song? Like one that you look forward to hearing.

Oh, yes. Yes. Well, interestingly enough, Sam, I didn't know you were going to say that, but...
Office Ladies

Did you know that according to the Guinness Book of World Records, White Christmas by Bing Crosby is not only the best-selling Christmas holiday single in the United States, but it was also the best-selling single of all time since the advent of recorded music, with an estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Incredible. All right. Cassie, do you have a favorite Christmas song?
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Oh, that's such a good one. That one charts the top often as well. It's usually in the top five. And I really did a deep dive on Christmas music. I don't normally have these stats off the top of my head.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
It's interesting you say that, Angela, because my favorite Christmas song is also a favorite album. I went through this phase where I got really into vinyl records. And my mom gave me her old record collection. And one of the records in the collection was a Frank Sinatra Christmas album. And I do bring out our little turntable and put it down by the Christmas tree.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
This is the first album that I play every season when we're decorating the tree. And the first song on the album is Frank Sinatra's Jingle Bells. And it's my favorite. And I'm going to play it. Yay.

And it was really sweet because this year my daughter did a little cookbook at her school, and she put our recipes. recipe for the snowball cookies in their school cookbook. How special. But I can't wait to bake a big batch of those.

Oh, blue eyes. I know. You just sing me right into Christmas, mister.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Well, we featured a lot of holiday music in our Office Christmas episodes. Angela, you played us little drummer boy at the top of the episode. We talked about when Dwight does his air guitar to Christmas Eve Sarajevo 1224. That's the heavy metal medley of Christmas songs performed by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Yeah.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
But in general, Dunder Mifflin Christmas parties just love to bust out the karaoke and the microphones, and we did not limit ourselves to holiday songs. For example, in Benihana Christmas, when we had the dueling Christmas parties, we have Daryl on the keyboard and Kevin singing, and I thought we should listen.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
And of course, in Secret Santa, there's the time when Dwight and Andy sing Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Oh, I rewatched that one. We talked about that with Billy Joe Armstrong when we broke down that episode. Yeah, he was impressed with Ed. Yes, he was. Well, the holidays just are not the same without the music.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
And last year, I heard a story about holiday music that I have been dying to share on the podcast. I have been waiting for us to do some sort of holiday-themed episode, and here I go. Now, I mentioned before that White Christmas by Bing Crosby was the best-selling holiday single in the United States. But starting in 1991... we started tracking digital downloads as well as copies sold.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
And as of November 25, 2016, the holiday single with the most digital downloads is Mariah Carey's 1994 track, All I Want for Christmas is You. Let's listen.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Well, it's also the most popular holiday ringtone. Oh. Okay, so for a very long time, Mariah Carey has had the number one spot on the Billboard Top 100 at the holidays. Like, she has been the reigning queen. And the number two spot, year after year, would go to Brenda Lee for Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. Okay. You know that song? Yeah, of course. Well, all of that changed last year.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Last year? Last year was the 65th anniversary of Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, and Brenda Lee decided she wanted number one. What'd she do? She went on talk shows. She shot a brand new music video for the song. She got her own TikTok account and started this whole, like, campaign to make Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree the number one song. Finally.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Like, is there a TikTok dance and the whole thing? A big trend.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
Yes. To give you a little context, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree was originally recorded in 1958 when Brenda Lee was only 13 years old. Oh, wow. She's been, like, at the top of the charts for so long. But never number one. Never. Well, guess what? Last year, she did it. No way. It worked. She dethroned Mariah Carey. Her song hit number one on the Billboard's Top 100.
Office Ladies
Bonus Christmas Episode with Brian Baumgartner
It is the oldest song to hit number one. Brenda Lee became the oldest living person to score a number one song. And Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree is only the third holiday song to hit number one on the chart. What was the other one? The third song is the Chipmunk Song by the Chipmunks. These other two songs are such great songs.

13. Wow. Yeah. That's a great story. I loved that. Well, Mariah Carey sent Brenda Lee flowers with a card when she was dethroned, and it said this. Dearest Miss Brenda, congratulations on your historic number one. Have a Merry Christmas. Love, Mariah. Classy. Classy. Yes.

It's so special. It's so unique. You've got Daisy Duck and Minnie Mouse. They're dressed like they're in a marching band. They've got the batons on. It's such a cool jacket.

Everyone playing. Yeah. I feel like those were some of the most joyous episodes because – We really would be in these like group party situations for most of the episode. And then, of course, we would be doing bits. And I'm sure we were very hard to wrangle. We were probably like trying to make a TV show with a room full of six people. year olds or something, doing all our bits.
