Well, the trial itself is just three days between today and Friday, we've been told. Then the verdict, we don't expect an immediate verdict with these sort of cases. It might take a few days, it might even take a few weeks. Obviously it will be widely awaited because of the fame that Carlo Ancelotti has in Spain.

Und was sagt Herr Ancelotti? So he was basically saying that he was not aware of this as far as he was concerned. This was normal practice.

Emotions are overflowing in Kotchani. Young people took out their anger on a town centre cafe bar. They believed had the same owner as the nightclub where a fire killed 59 people. The government says the barely converted carpet warehouse was operating with a fraudulent license. It only had one exit and the ceiling proved highly flammable when the band on stage lit pyrotechnics.

Canadian PM Mark Carney says he wants to reduce security reliance on the US

In fact, justice was the word on thousands of lips in Kotchani. People came for a vigil come protest in the small central park. Many queued to sign a book of condolence. Others simply stood and held up signs articulating what they were feeling. Unbearable and corruption were two of the most prevalent words. That reflects the anger that people feel about the way things work in North Macedonia.

But there have already been calls for nationwide gatherings and the name of the organising group indicates the mood. Who's next?

Hamas releases the bodies of four Israelis

I think we can expect perhaps a divided response to this, because on the one hand Mr Rubiales has been found guilty of sexual assault. But the judge has only given him a fine. He hasn't given him the jail sentence that the prosecutor was calling for, a one-year jail sentence. He has to pay an 11,000 Euro fine.

We don't know what the response is going to be, but I think that there will certainly be people who are unhappy with it because they feel it's too harsh. There will be other people who feel that the 11,000 Euro fine is not enough.

And that was a very serious charge because the prosecutor was calling for Mr. Rubiales and each of the others facing that charge to be given jail sentences of one and a half years. We haven't heard from the organisers, we haven't heard from any independent monitors, but 107,000 people in Belgrade is huge by this country's standards. It's certainly the largest protest that I've ever heard of taking place in Serbia. And when you're in the midst of it, It's absolutely staggering. It was quite difficult to make any movement around the city because of it.

French ministers arrive in Mayotte after devastating cyclone

And the really interesting aspect, if you follow your spyware news, is that one of the apps that they've discovered was developed locally in Serbia, and it gets onto your phone, and if the phone is able to be cracked, and then it can start spying on you. There's also been detections of the already internationally notorious spyware Pegasus as well. I mean, is this a surprising claim?

Global News Podcast

French ministers arrive in Mayotte after devastating cyclone

879.38

Well, I mean, Pegasus is, in essence, it's available to governments to use around the world. There have been scandals involving it. Another tool that the Serbian authorities were found to have been using by Amnesty International was developed by an Israeli company called Celebrite. That enables law enforcement officers to unlock phones which are otherwise locked.

And then the accusation from Amnesty is that while the phones were unlocked, the authorities got busy installing spyware. But yes, I mean, authorities have been known around the world to do this to various people for various reasons. And the software has been developed for that very reason. It's the way in which Serbia is using it, which Amnesty is highlighting.
