Hello, hello, hello. You got me now? You got me now?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Oh, baby, they got me. Here we go. It was the on button, right? No, you said it. NBC, struggling for cash. The lights behind me throughout the company.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I have two lefties. He likes lefties. I don't know. Does he like strong arms or weak arms? Because if he likes strong arms, then he should put mine in the frame. If he likes weak arms, then we got it right.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
To Billy, I can throw more than 10 yards, Chris Sims. That's what I'll write.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Yeah, apparently he knows what's cool and what's not.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
That's incredible. That's amazing. That's a good one right there. Where was he a bouncer at? That's what I want to know because, yeah, I'm sure there are certain establishments where he might have picked that up at it.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Well, you're, I mean, just laying out the facts of the city. I mean, there's a massage parlor on every corner and there's in between those corners, there's seven strip clubs in certain areas. So no, like, in fact, I was talking about this a little bit the other night. I used to go to strip clubs a lot when I was there. I did, right? Because one, it became like the place we hung out.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Like on a Monday night, Monday night football's on, right? Tuesday's a player's day off. So, hey, I could sleep in a little on Tuesday. Most Monday nights in my career, I, Hey, Joey Galloway or blah, blah, blah. Where are we going? Oh, we're going to go to this strip club and watch the game and eat a steak. Cause they got some, you know, higher end strip clubs there too.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And I, it became kind of a thing. It really did. It drove my wife crazy. Cause she was like, wait, you're, you're going to the strip club again. I'm like, yeah, well that's where everybody is. And we're going to watch the game there. So I was there often.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I always told my wife stuff like that. Just because, again, I was the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I was pretty hard to hide. I just felt like with stuff like that, why try to hide it? Somebody's going to say something to her. It's going to come up in a conversation, maybe when one of my friends are over the house and she's going to hear it.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So, yeah, I was kind of like transparent with stuff like that.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Well, we're a little both. I like Christmas Eve better. I love that night before Christmas, we kind of have the family over our house. My wife cooks an Italian dinner. Her dad, who was a restaurant owner and a cook,
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
as well as he grew up he gets involved in cooking so we have a great time the food's awesome i guess there's the excitement about the next day being christmas and feeling the energy of my kids can't wait to open presents and stuff like that so i think i like christmas eve better than i do christmas actually christmas day i'm already kind of tired of christmas i hear you i saw you guys yesterday like we don't need to do this again
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I, I, that's where like we, we have everybody at our house and like years past, we've gone everybody at our house. And then the next morning you get up, you eat breakfast, you open the presents, all that. And we'd all get dressed up and go to my parents' house. I don't think that's going to happen this year. That's, that's not just because I got to work the next day and be up early.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And like you just said, it's just like, wait, we just spent the last, you know, nine hours together. And I just, I think it's a little too much, not going to happen this year.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Oh, my gosh. I can't stand them. I can't stand them. That's how I feel about that. What's the problem, Sims? Did yours happen already? No, no. I mean, we had some. We have a few more. I'm all for, like, parties and love giving back. Right. But sometimes the holiday parties are like, yeah, during the middle of the work week or during the week. And you're like, wait, we were just all together.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And now we're going to spend the whole day together. Like, we just all like go to bed together, too. Damn. Like, how much do we got to see each other? And if the holiday party isn't at something special, I kind of just sit there and go, eh. B minus job by the company. Kind of cheap party. Like you brought us out here to do what? And this is what we're getting. Huh?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
How much money did we pay to certain people this year? What? So I look at that stuff. And, you know, if you're going to make me come to the party, it better be a good party.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I don't mind. The good thing I'll say about company parties, if I do go, I'm going to have a drink and have some fun. And I usually am around some people that you like and you can talk and have some fun talk with. So that's not the worst part of it.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Um, nobody liked it more than Mike Tirico. Mike Tirico was the best. He really would. He was the spearhead of like, Hey, we're having a gift exchange. We're going to do this. He was very creative and gifts that he got, uh, for other people. He was definitely the one I think that led the charge in that department. Jason Garrett's a very thoughtful person, so he is really good at it.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Like Jason Garrett. I just got it yesterday. Every Christmas sends me a smoked turkey. And let me tell you, that thing is good. I mean, it is good. So just a turkey arrives.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Exactly right. No, a turkey. That's what when you're rich and you coach the Cowboys, you say a card. Here's a whole turkey. And that's what he's done. Hold on.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Draw a name. You can't tell anybody who you drew.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
It's kind of Secret Santa. Exactly right. You're supposed to have a price point that generally you try to work with. I usually go above that as far as what I get. I usually am lazy, so I get something more expensive that's maybe not as personally meaningful to the person. And who'd you get? No, you're not going to know the person. The person's a behind-the-scenes person, right?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So it's not one of the top on-air personalities or anything like that. It's all our production crew, everybody, director, producer, all of them getting involved in this. And yeah, they're good. They are good. And some people are very creative and funny about what they do. Like last year, I received a video message from... Gene Steratore. He didn't know he was making it from me. He did not know.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So this person listed out all the things and how I yell at the refs on Sundays and how I smoke pot from time to time. And he sent back this video having no idea that it was me just dissecting and kind of trashing me. And I heard you trash the referees a lot. Let me just tell you, they're 90% right. And so it was really funny. I actually sent it as my dad.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And I said, show this to Steratore and say, how dare he talk to me like that?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I can't say there's any, there's nobody that I can look at to say they're shitty.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
He's been all right. He was all right last year. He passed the test the first time around. Right. So I don't know.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Tony Dungey. Very gifted Cooper Rush in the 12th round.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Coach Dungey, so thoughtful. He would never mess up.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Jack's not a part of it because he's on the road, so he's not there.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
But even if there was a bad one in this one, you're not going to get me to say it. Oh, so there is a bad one. Okay.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
There really hasn't been. Maria? Wow. No, definitely not Maria. Maria is pretty damn good in that department as well.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I mean, that's a big... It's a big... future discussion, big picture of what you want the jets to be. And I think a little bit of that's going to be detailed by the new GM and the new head coach. Right. And I would think that a lot of GMs and new head coaches are going to be like, man, I don't want to have to start.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And then I got to deal with Aaron Rogers and all that comes along with it because there's a lot, there's a lot right now. I mean, he's a distraction, whether he wants to say it or not, he is a distraction. And he could still throw the football, but the issues still remain about the things we've talked about. We've seen the ball go down the field a little bit, definitely better, right?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Can he consistently do that against some of the better teams in football? That's where I don't know. Do you want to start a new future for your football team? I guess what I'm saying, if I was making that decision, I would say, no, I don't want it back. We tried it. It didn't work. We're going to move on. We're going to build our team for the future here.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
We have some good young pieces that we like, and we're going to build around that. So that's what I would say. But, yeah, I mean, again, I don't think there's going to be anybody that's going to come in there and really want to deal with that is what I would say, really, Stu Gatz.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I know. I heard, and I heard about that story. We talked about it a little this morning with Florio on Pro Football Talk. My best Madden rating, I think it was 86. It was like the year I lost my spleen, but we had just gone to the playoffs the year before. That's as good as it got.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So I don't know what Aaron Rodgers is rated on Madden right now, but I don't have any – I should not be named in the same sentence as Aaron Rodgers as long as we're talking about quarterbacks. I will say that.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I understand it. And this is the problem, too, when you make –
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
It seems like rash decisions and firing people, and it's happened a lot here with the Jets over the last few years, let alone, yeah, things have been somewhat dysfunctional there, and now those people get out of the building and they tell all their coaching friends and their coaching tree, and word starts to filter out throughout the NFL, let alone they're bitter about the way they were treated or fired or whatever by the Jets either way, the Woody Johnson, the Johnson family.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So, yeah, Woody Johnson, they're going to be under the microscope. They are. Between stories like that, the sons that are 18 years old giving game balls out in the locker room, those are things that are just not normal things you hear. within a successful football organization or the coach being fired, right?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And when you're one game out and it's still early in the season and one game away from taking the lead in the AFCs. So the Jets are not going to be a top destination for the coaches that have options. That is what I can tell you. But as we know, there's going to be one or two that are going to go, wait, I don't have options. The Jets are the only place that really wants me.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And there's only 32 of these, and I'm going to go there.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I am. I am surprised. Do I believe he's going to stay there long? Absolutely not. I mean, the buyout tells you everything. Starting this June, he can be bought out for couch cushion change from NFL owners. I mean, come on. A million dollars? Belichick has got a million dollars of cash he could put in his pocket and pay that off. I mean, Belichick, that's nothing. He's worth hundreds of millions.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Like, that's nothing. So that alone tells me he doesn't want to stay there long term. He was shocked, I know, and so were people around him, that there wasn't more of a calling for him to be the head coach. So, yeah, am I shocked he's going to college? Definitely. Did I think there would be a team out there that would latch on to Belichick? I did think that. But I'm not shocked.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
that the NFL rejected Belichick. His age, his control, his demeanor, everything that comes along with him. Yeah, there's going to be some organizations that are going to be like, wait, we don't want to deal with that. We don't know how much longer he's going to coach. And we're not just going to give him free reign to take over everything if he's only going to be here for two or three years.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And let alone this too. And this is the other aspect. Belichick has...
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
treated most of the NFL like for the last 20 years and I don't mean it in disrespectful it's just the Patriots are so you know uptight you know quiet lip they don't talk to anybody he doesn't let coaches talk to other coaches on the field pre-game right there's certainly a lot of coaches think there's a lot of arrogance that came out of New England over the last 20 years I've said this on TV I mean man over the last 20 years if you gave me a dollar for every coach I talked to oh
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
New England, yeah, I forgot they invented football. Oh, yeah, New England thinks they know everything. Oh, yeah, I know. Belichick's got all the answers, all that. They've burned bridges there. So there's a lot of people in football that just wouldn't want to deal with Belichick in general.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Yeah, I know. And listen, I'm friends with Mike, and Mike's the man, in my opinion. Yeah, he's great. He's somebody I talk about and talk football with a lot. And we see the game the same way. And when he does say stuff like that, I do go, ooh, all right, maybe, maybe. But again, too, I don't know. When it comes to business, I wouldn't exactly trust Bill Belichick in every word he says.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
We've seen he can dodge questions and lie and bullshit pretty good to the media. And that's what I kind of find funny about the whole thing. He doesn't talk to the media for the last 15 years, and now he's a media darling telling everybody about how every team should play and coach and do all this. And I think it's very, very hypocritical, honestly.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I don't want to say that, but it's the first time I've questioned it. It's definitely gotten to a point. It's a lot, Chris. I know. I've had fun with this all week because I always go, next man up, next man up. I get it. It's cool. And I know we all want to latch onto that. But let me just give you a little story and an inkling into next man up, OK? Next man up, right?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
After you get past the first guy to the second guy, it's usually like, well, there's a difference. There's a reason he's a starter and that's a backup. Once you get to the second guy and now you start going to the third guy, then it becomes like, oh, wait. Third guy's playing. I mean, we cut him last year. He wasn't even on a team. Now he's starting for us.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So like you could say next man up all you want. There's a big drop off. And that's what you worry about with them. It's banged up. And it's not like I don't feel horrible about their starters.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
on the D-line and things like that, it's affected their depth to where when they come off the field, you look at the second unit and you go, oh my gosh, they have no chance against this offense or Josh Allen and this offensive line. And that's where you worry about it. They're going to have to adjust their style. And I don't know what that's going to be, Stugatz.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
That's going to be the interesting thing. Do they just go super aggressive with their offense and go, screw it, we're going to outscore you and we're going to play that style? Or will they go a little bit like, hey, we can run the ball and control the clock and do that. We're good enough to do that on the offense, and maybe we play that way and not put our defense out there as much.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I'll be interested to see what Dan Campbell and companies' approach is there in Detroit. I still believe in them, but as you know, With the injuries, I certainly don't think they're the best team in football right now. You know I think that title goes to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Well, I mean, it's going to be hard not to play him. He wants to play. I've been around Mahomes too many times in my life and gotten the chance to know him a little bit. He's a psycho. He's the psycho you want in a good way. He's a gym rat. He's obsessed.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I mean, when I'm around them in Kansas City and Andy Reid, I don't know how many times Andy Reid's had to tell me, like, man, I mean, him, he's obsessed. Oh, my gosh, he's all over everything. He's a gym rat. That's what he says. He'll cut your throat out to win the football game. So he's that way. The big thing is let him play if he can do it. That's cool.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
But don't let him play if it's so bad to where we might sacrifice the big picture of things, right? Like, just to be the number one seed is not worth it just to go, well, now we don't even have Mahomes for the playoffs, right? Like, all right, whoop-de-f***ing-do. You just proved last year you don't have to be the number one seed and you can win the Super Bowl.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So don't make that the main objective. The main objective is to make sure 15 can play in the playoffs because when you got him, you know you can beat anybody.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Oh, you shouldn't just walk off the edge. Just walk in and hold a big weight while you're doing it. All right. Hold a big one. Tie it to your ankle. All right.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Sorry. That was just too easy. You set it up. Perfect. There. He knew he did. You know, it stinks. It stinks. They lost last week. Y'all played the Texans. You guys know that you saw it. You could be up. You got your defense plays good football. You still got playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Billy, this is the big thing here. You know, I put some stuff on Instagram.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I don't know if you saw that. I talked about the Dolphins a little this week. It's odd, let me just say this, and I know who I'm labeled as here, but it's odd that the highest paid player on your team is the biggest question mark we have in big football games. That doesn't match up. When I grew up, the Giants were never like, hey, we're worried about Lawrence Taylor this week. We...
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
We got to come up with something. We got to make sure he looks good. And it's hard to win games, okay, when it seems like the objective of the team is just to make one guy look good and functional and not get him hurt on a weekly basis. If the NFL's hard enough, let alone to go in with a preconceived notion of how we're going to play the game, that's where it's tough.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Let alone, again, your highest paid player is the guy that you never should have to worry about or game plan for. It'd just be like, no, you're good. We put you there. Win. And then we're going to figure out everything else with everybody else. And that's the unfortunate thing with the Dolphins and the thing I'm going to question going forward until proven otherwise, Billy.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And a big reason of that is because he's been handcuffed because he has to do it with a quarterback and had no choice. That's just always going to struggle in those type of games in that moment. That's just what it is. I mean, it doesn't matter whatever it is, right? So I don't agree with that. They've done special things on the offensive side of the football.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I mean, everybody knows dealing with Mike McDaniel and that offense is a pain in the ass. So, no, I don't agree with firing Mike McDaniel.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
That I can deal with. Again, the biggest problem with it is team building. Team building. And that's the biggest no-no of what I just said. You don't do that. Negotiate against yourself. Pay more money than market value. And your best player, like we talked about, be a concern. And double down and just try to make that work forever. We're going to sacrifice coaches and players and the whole team.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Because I picked this guy five, and I'm never going to back down for it, and I'm going to make sure he works, and so what if the team falls apart doing it? Flores got wasted the first time around because of Chris Greer, and he had the owner's ear. So, yeah, I look at it that way. And there's some other contracts and things there that I don't agree with on the football team either.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So, yeah, I would be more in favor of that than firing Mike McDaniel.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Yeah. Well, ding, ding, ding. Back to the GM. And we gave him a contract where we can't trade him or it totally ruins our football team. So they're paying Jalen Ramsey like he's the top corner in football. Crazy. Nobody thinks Jalen Ramsey is even close in that discussion in football. Nobody. He's a really good defensive secondary piece to be paid like he's an island shutdown corner. Like what?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Are you kidding me? I mean, no. So yeah, there's a lot of issues there and I could dive into a bunch of other roster moves and things that I just, I don't agree with there.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
The offensive line issues, Waddle, he's been injured and all that. And I like Waddle. But yeah, do I think they overpaid him a little bit? Yeah, certainly. I do. You know, it's certainly, yeah, I'm not in love with some of the contracts and the way they've built the roster totally.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
You want to know what's odd? I mean, you know why Lions and Eagles, I surely expect them. Green Bay, I do think, is talented enough to be in the Super Bowl. Like, no doubt. They are not outclassed by the Eagles or the Lions as far as talent's considered.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Tampa's dangerous to where I would say, I don't know if I think they're a Super Bowl team really, but the way this playoffs could shake out and you play the Lions with the defensive injuries like you talked about, could I see them winning some kind of shootout type of football game? And the Rams too, that I believed in that way? Like, I could see any of those four.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Oddly enough, and what I was going to say is the Vikings are the one team I think I'd be the most shocked by. I do.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I know. I don't even... It's funny you're saying it, but I think, like, I'm rooting for Sam Darnold, but I got to see it to believe it, I guess, is what I want to see a little bit more. Of course. Okay? You know, the defense... is really well coached.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I question whether they have enough real playmakers and big-time guys that can make some plays against these high-quality teams when it really counts in those moments. So I think those are the two things I worry about. And their run game is solid, but it's a little bit up and down. And I just think there's some teams they're going to have issues with there in that department.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
So, yeah, the Vikings are the one that's crazy, as good as they are, that I question whether they can get to the Super Bowl. Yeah.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I think so. Right. Right. I mean, it's going to be one of those because I'm totally I'm totally with you.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
Yeah, I don't even know. I don't know all of it. Right. I mean, I've seen it, of course, in New Jersey. It's a big deal.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
it's crazy i i mean i really don't even know what to say i've been reading a lot about ufo stuff because like there's been some government stuff recently about they've laying it out there and they're like no they're here and we know it and they have technology we don't know and they basically say in this hearing like we're trying to recruit people that are smart more smart people to try to help us figure out what the hell these things are and how they do what they do
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
The drone stuff's just, I don't know, crazy, and it just seems like it's gotten out of hand, and there's got to be national security or something done about it because it's obviously causing issues.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I know. I don't know if I think the drone thing's the alien thing. I don't know if I believe that, but I don't know. I don't know.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I don't feel like the drone thing is an alien thing or anything like that. I feel like, too, it's like, I mean, some of these people have, we have technology now to have one person who can control, he can control 30 drones at once, right? So I don't know. That's above my pay, and I haven't read enough about it yet to really know all the stories here with that one. All right. Next week, then.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I mean, I'm too worried about real spaceships and what I'm seeing there on government-issued. Yeah.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
That's the funniest thing about this is the government is unveiling videos of real spaceships, not drones or whatever.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
And that's not getting talked about. We're talking about drones. That's where we find these.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
GBF- Santa Paws
I had the Packers going to the Super Bowl this year. I did. Now, we'll see where it goes, but I do think they have that type of talent. They're that kind of team, and they can physically hang in there and then some against teams like the Eagles and Detroit that I look at to be some of the most physical teams in the sport.

Thank you. I love you guys too. Happy holidays. Have fun. Enjoy. We'll talk next Thursday. We'll talk some Christmas and some stories and I'll have some for you. The big thing for me is will I stay awake to actually help my wife put the gifts under the Christmas tree?
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz

Because last year was the first time in 10 years that I didn't drunkenly pass out and say, see you later and just go lay in the bed and good night for the night. Yeah. We'll see if I can do it two years in a row.

I mean, I know. Well, I'll get to watch it. But yeah, we got to work. I'm actually going to be at Universal Studios in Florida doing the pregame show from there on Saturday. So that's going to be kind of cool.

This is a business trip. I don't have time for you. Harry Potter Land together had some fun.

I mean, what do I expect? A lot of my hard earned money paying for everybody else's great Christmas. That's what I expect. That's usually what it is. I spend none of my money and watch my wife spend it all on herself and the kids. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. That's right. I'm f***ing Santa Claus. That's who I am.

Yeah, I liked him a lot, right? I said, I had Caleb Williams in front of him, but I had said many a times in the process, I might even said it on the video, like most years, Jaden Daniels was the number one pick in the draft. He was that special. And I think when I went into it, I went into the evaluation process going, wait, I know the guy's a super good athlete. Obviously, he won the Heisman.

But how strong is his arm? I knew he had two awesome receivers there. How much of it was them? How much of it is him? And then I think the other aspect was like, Man, he's really skinny. Can he take a hit in the NFL? Are we sure that's going to happen? I think those were my early concerns. Then you watch the film and you go, damn, okay, he can make every throw.

And wow, his mechanics and the way he throws the ball are very repeatable. as far as that he's consistent with them. And usually when you look at really high-level, accurate, good throwers, they can emulate their motion perfectly time after time after time and become a machine, right? You know that. Shooting a basketball, throwing a football, whatever it may be. And then you start to get into...

wait like this isn't some guy that just looks to run he wants to play in the pocket he wants to dice you up with his right arm and and what he sees vision wise down the field and then you get into the running and oh wow when when he does run whoa it's special he runs like an NFL wide receiver and And then you saw some of the, hey, he's a little more physical and stronger than I thought he was.

Now, I still thought that would be an issue in the NFL, and that's probably still the number one thing that surprises me. Like you saw last night, he has runs where he just breaks tackles. He bounces off people and gets extra yards, let alone he can hang in the pocket and take people hitting on him as he's throwing the ball.

And, you know, most times when we got into the playoffs, the rookie quarterbacks are getting late in the year. Hey, they're still managing them a little bit. Hey, let's be careful here. Let's not put them in a tough situation. Right.

One, one of the advantages he has is he ran this system that Cliff Kingsbury runs in college a little bit. So there's great knowledge of that. But I think it's the fact that Cliff Kingsbury is obviously seeing a guy that he can trust and a guy that can mentally take in a lot of offense to where he could just give them everything and it's just go ahead.

Their quarterback kind of played B minus ball the whole year. And I do think, hey, he's young. We still got to remember that. It's not a ton of playing time and experience. I'm not going into the next offseason thinking Jordan Love, oh no, I'm concerned about that. He was off this year. He did some dumb things. the Philadelphia Eagles a lot of one-on-one opportunities and that'd be one thing that that's what Philly their their formula is very simple and my biggest concern about Philly Ryan is that they're very simple on offense altogether it's one of my themes of my podcast this year is that Philly doesn't do much they go we're gonna run the ball you know we're gonna run the ball they only have about two run plays and they just go screw you we're better than you

And then when you overdo that and they start to get favorable matchups on the outside, you watch Philadelphia, then it's just, whoa, throw it up to A.J. Brown. Boom, throw it up to Devontae Smith. Oh, hit him on a slant against one-on-one. Now they run after the catch and do that. So it's not incredibly complicated to break down Philadelphia and what they do in the passing game.

And then, you know, of course, we know Baltimore's defense is not super great. It's been a lot better. But I do think a lot of pressure is going to be on Buffalo's offense to win this game. Right, right. This is like, he's not as athletic as some of the guys you talked about. This is something I've broken down a lot. They need to do a better job of, they let the center call the pass protections, right? That's one of their issues there to me. And schematically, people have exposed the way they protect and their scheme itself. let alone when you let the center do it all the time.

And this is where, again, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Burrow, Mahomes, they're all over, hey, Mike 52, and then they know where all their problems are after that. C.J. Stroud has been taught, because this is the way they run offense there, hey, just trust the center. He'll figure it out. And that's a tough way to play quarterback, especially when you don't protect and teams start to blitz you.

And you're going, well, the coach told me just to trust the center all week, but I don't know. There's four guys coming over there. Are we sure we got them picked up? So I think they got to make the next phase of letting him take total control of the offense, like you used to see Tom Brady do. You know, oh, no, no, hey, hey, scratch 54.

you know ship he's got to know exactly what's going on so i don't love that aspect and then like to your point you know and you heard me say the play action passes the long developing passes when you don't protect in the middle of your offensive line that makes no sense but like people have gotten on cj stroud and this is where i think you're totally right to go like i watch film of cj stroud i don't go oh man i mean he's missing throws and plays everywhere

I look at it and go, shit, he's just surviving. Oh, crap, he got out of the way there. Oh, I mean, the guy was barely open or covered really well. Oh, he put it in a spot maybe where his guy could get it or nobody. Things haven't worked well institutionally there. I'm still a big believer in C.J. Stroud, no doubt about it.

It's not Quentin Johnson or some huge guy. Right. You want to put it right here and let him run and do that. And the first interception, like you said, right off the heels of a turnover. Right. To make that decision and try to fit that ball on the other side. That was bad. He played bad football and he was off his game. Certainly played his worst game of the year.

Exactly. Play calling tells you something, right? And there's something true to that. Certainly, I get that. But at Oregon, that's what they do a little bit. You see it even again this year. They like to throw screens and kind of control the game and use that as a part of their, almost their extension of their run game. I saw enough plays on film from Bo Nix last year in college.

Wild-Card Weekend Recap: The Jayden Daniels Show, Herbert, Love, and Tomlin Questions, QB Legacy Updates and the Arch Manning Future at Texas With Chris Simms
You go, man, he could throw the ball down the field. I think he's got a better overall... feel in the pocket than Russell Wilson and is going to be able to play better from the pocket than Russell Wilson. Russell Wilson for years wouldn't throw the ball down the middle of the field and basically just drop back and wait to move and make something happen and make a backyard type throw, right?

Wild-Card Weekend Recap: The Jayden Daniels Show, Herbert, Love, and Tomlin Questions, QB Legacy Updates and the Arch Manning Future at Texas With Chris Simms
There was very little or few and far between throws on rhythm. I think Bo Nix, you're going to see a guy that's got Drew Brees' surgicality in him, and then he's got, I think, even a more explosive arm than Drew Brees did in his prime, let alone, like you saw yesterday, he can run the damn ball pretty good too. So I'm a little higher on Bo Nix than you are.

I really like his talent, and I think he's the perfect guy for Sean Payton because Sean Payton's going to be able to put limitless offense on his shoulders, and he'll be able to run the offense still.

No, it was real quick. It's tough, too, because they don't run the ball real well. Right. They got Cortland Sutton, who's their one go to guy down there. But that's about it. So they'll get some receivers this offseason. Watch out for them in that standpoint. They won the year. I mean, the lowest salary cap number ever to go to the playoffs, rookie quarterback, you said it.

I don't know if it was me you're thinking of, right? I'm trying... I think maybe where we got into a few weeks ago was the Chicago game. I'm trying to think of where I've said, hey, one of the things, and I thought... Detroit winning home field advantage was bigger for them than maybe most teams in the playoffs because of the way their defense is. It's so banged up.

They can get a little advantage with their crowd noise and all that to help out the defense. The other thing I questioned, and I think it was the Bear game, was just that, hey, Jared Goff outside in the elements has been an issue through his career. And he squashed that that day. But like, hey, with him specifically, you know where he's going to be. He's going to be in the pocket.

He doesn't get outside the pocket. He hangs in there. He's tough as hell. And the biggest thing with them, it's hard to catch on to anything they do because they The fucking OC, Ben Johnson, is the man. I think he's the best OC slash about-to-be head coach candidate since Shanahan and McVay. That's how awesome I think he is.

And he just gives you so much offense to where, like, if you overplay one area of their offense... you're going to get screwed somewhere else. He's going to crack the code on you somewhere else and start to destroy you. And that's what makes Detroit so dangerous is there's really not an aspect of their offense.

Yeah, whether it's the processing speed, lack of an ability to make any plays really off schedule, and then... For a guy that I think has a good arm, he throws the change up or the lob ball just way too much where you go, man, drive that ball and that's going to be a 20-yard completion. Instead, it hangs in the air and gets knocked down. There's too much of that. Like,

Quinn Ewers, great career at the University of Texas, but it's over. It's over. It's Arch Manning's show from here on out. I would be shocked if it's anything but that. I know from people talking to them in the program and all that, they couldn't be more excited about Arch Manning.

Arch Manning, his mind, his physical ability, I think they feel like their offense will go to another level with Arch Manning at the helm there, let alone he's got a way with the guys. That was the first thing that I was told about Arch Manning from some of my Texas friends. Like, hey, the guys love Arch Manning. Not that they dislike Quinn Ewers, but just Arch Manning's the guy.
